Rakesh Roshan got more success as a director then actor The film tells the story of how good friends become eniemies
The story spans 2 generations
It starts with late 40 actors(of 80's) Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha playing friends and some portions depicting their friendship is crude
The story is predictable though but well handled Their break up in their friendship is well handled while the second half shows how their respective children fall in love with each other The film does have some unwanted comedy scenes and some overdone drama
The film is well directed by Rakesh Roshan
Music is good too
Amongst actors Jeetendra does his part well and is subtle here though he and Shatru look too old in initial portions Shatrughan Sinha does his Bihari act well though he overdoes at times Kader Khan does his usual comedy Amongst heroines Bhanupriya is okay, Amrita Singh is alright too Sushma Seth looks too young to play Shatru's mother Kiran Kumar gives a subtle performance Saeed Jaffrey is okay Govinda does a good job though he has come a long way Neelam is adequate

Khudgarz review :
"Ek ne nibhaya dosti ka farz, doosra kehlaya Khudgarz"; Vijay Behl used to announce on the popular radio advertisement.
Released at Mumbai's Metro Cinema, Khudgarz was desi adaptation of Jeffery Archer's 'Kane and Abel' which saved producer- director Rakesh Roshan from a definite bankruptcy after the disasterous Bhagwaan Dada (1986).
Good all round performances (Shatrughan Sinha was the show stealer as Bihari), superb music by Rajesh Roshan, technically slick with rich production values; Khudgarz struck the right chord with the audience and became one of the biggest hits of 1987. Rakesh Roshan never looked back after this film and gave numerous hits like Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), Karan Arjun (1995) and Koyla (1997) sticking to his fixation for alphabet K.
P. S. The only flaw I find in Khudgarz was the mis-casting of a roly poly Rishi Kapoor (He was Roshan's bestie in real life) as a beggar!!!!

Khudgarz (stubborn? - self motivated per Gootrans)
Very old and nice movie though quite slow paced t least in the start. Many of the places remind me the movie Pukar with Amit as protagonist and on how the people in out of urban or rural India lived in medium to hard core poverty. The typical Indian humor is not so funny in the westerners as I seems rather ridiculous Even the fight scenes that remind the old Chinese karate movies with a dose of Superman abilities!
It seems that third persons especially corrupted try to corrupt also relationships. It was clear that the tall man made the older friends got enemies and in a way obstruct their children to marry the ex-friends child Also interesting that this movie is based on in a American novel though Indians had very good creativity to restart a story adapted to their standards with a new and very fresh story that is very far from the original (thanks to wiki reading both stories )
And finally the story is very good though the start was rather boring and sow motion. Friendshhip is as love IT even wins
8/10.

Khudgarz is one of the finest movie made by Rakesh Roshan. The story is about the friendship between rich & poor, revenge, romance, comedy, dialoguebaazi. I have never like Shatrughan Sinha in any movie except for this one. Songs are good and timeless classics especially Aapke Aa jane se
this is perhaps the most superb starrer of jeetu and shatrughan sinha. this movie displays a thoroughly written script, excellent directorial exploits and superb acting by the 2 major stars, their actresses and others.
i really enjoy the crude interplays between jeetu and sinha. seeing best of friends becoming overnight enemies with hatred grown to the level of destroy the other party is alarming. interestingly, they put up excellent acting.
rakesh roshan settles down to write the Hollywood version of cain & abel in the bollywood way. he deserves every commendation in the way he exploits every bit of the script to suit bollywood masala.
khudgarz shows the high intellectual displays of the director, producer, script-writer and all the actors. kudos to all of them.
