Plot:
Following her husband's illicit relationship with her cousin, a woman leaves her house to become a successful writer.
Critical Assessment: "A deftly nuanced drama full of emotions and beautifully narrated sequences, which remains impulsively watchable for a standout performance of Smita Patil."
Rating: 2 stars out of 4 Reviewing Hindi Cinema since 1945: Movie Guide 2020

J Om Parkash, the director of this movie also has another favourite of mine "Apnapan" to his credit. Both the films do not involve any novel theme or even treatment. It is just his knack of getting the basic things right and treating the plot in a homely manner that makes these movies precious to me.
"Akhir Kyoon" boasts the presence of Sumita Patil, undoubtedly a performer par excellence in Indian cinema. She is in her mettle in this simple tale of a woman's woes. The plot and treatment do go somewhat stereotypical in the portion as to what happens to her after being driven out of home by her adulterous husband, and her resolve to face the world in the song "Shakti ka naam naari hae" yet otherwise the treatment is natural, simple, and truthful.
All in all a movie worth spending 3 hours with.

This was a female oriented movie with Smita Patil as the central character and Rakesh Roshan and Tina Munim having negative shades in their character who torture Smita Patil. Around the mid movie Super Star Rajesh Khanna appears in the movie and steals the thunder from all the co- actors and it appears that he has the lead role. The movie revolves around Smita and she has given a stellar performance but the crowd and the claps of the crowd goes to Rajesh Khanna in a role of a simpleton supporter of women rights. It is a tear jerker, social drama with a message with very good performance by Smita Patil, good music by Rajesh Roshan but the actual winner is Rajesh Khanna - that is why he is the Super Star - the original, the first and the best
Aakhir Kyon is a neat family film by director Om Prakash. The Rajesh Khanna-Om Prakash combo has always given good films & this is no exception. It has got the versatile Smita Patil in the title role with tina munium & rakesh roshan.
The story is one of women upliftment which was a rarity in those days. Smita patil has given a superlative performance. She is the live wire of the film. She is ably supported by rakesh & tina.
The real surprise here is Kaka. This man sure has guts. Time & again he has done heroine centric films & yet held his own. Here, he makes his appearance only after the interval (which is unusual). He puts in a breezy performance. Till the interval, it is a smita patil show but after that, she has to share the honors with the superstar.
The rajesh smita combo has always done in films like Anokha Rishta & Nazrana & here it is no different.
Rajesh khanna had always a great script sense & this film is proof for that.
The director Om prakash makes the film entertaining yet at the same time, it gives a powerful message.
This is a neat family entertainer with no double meaning dialogues, raunchy songs or violence.
Definitely one of the best films of the superstar, though he does not have to exert much in terms of acting.
