X-Men: Evolution

Marvel veteran picks the best Wolverine (and it's not who you think)
Image
Laura Kinney has come a long way from where she started in X-Men: Evolution (and later in her first comic book appearance in Nyx No. 3). She’s evolved into more than just the daughter of Logan: She’s Wolverine. And, for those who doubt that, Logan himself says it’s true during X-Men No. 5 by Jonathan Hickman (with art by R.B. Silva). Due to her consistent evolution, it’s not shocking that Marvel Comics put her on the New Avengers and that Bucky Barnes (a.k.a. the Winter Soldier) says she’s the better Wolverine.

While on their first mission, Natasha asks if their distraction (Laura) can handle what’s happening. Bucky says, “Of course. She’s the best there is at what she does.” Natasha, who was trained by Wolverine, asked if she was better than Logan. Bucky replied, “I didn’t call him, did I?”

Two Star Trek Legends Worked On Marvel's Most Underrated Animated Series
Image
Marvel Comics made their way onto the realm of animated TV frequently, beginning way back in 1966 with the anthology series "The Marvel Super Heroes." The following year, Hanna-Barbera made a "Fantastic Four" animated series, and the company was off to the races. Marvel shows were met with only fitful success and popularity, however. Many youths recall the celebrated "X-Men" TV series from 1992, but fewer likely remember the 1979 series "Fred and Barney Meet the Thing," or the "Fantastic Four" and "Iron Man" shows from 1994.

It's important to remember that the popularity of "Spider-Man" (1994) and "X-Men: Evolution" (2000) are aberrations. The bulk of Marvel animated shows have historically flopped. After the debut of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the sheer volume of Marvel animated shows increased exponentially, and now it's hard to keep track of it all. Many, many animated shows, both good and bad, kind of fell through the cracks. Many still await rediscovery.

Wolverine Claws Back With New 'X-Men '97' Figure From Mondo
Image
X-Menhas been getting a lot of love from Marvel lately. Since 20th Century Fox was bought by Disney, mutants and the X-Men brand have slowly been making appearances in the MCU. This includes projects like Ms. Marvel, The Marvels and Deadpool & Wolverine. However, arguably the most beloved thing in the last number of years pertaining to this side of the Marvel universe has been the reboot ofX-Men: The Animated Series, X-Men ‘97. Season 1 of the series was a major critical and commercial success for Disney. That also caused a ton of merchandise to be released for this nostalgic show. Now, Mondo has re-entered the X-Mansion with their latest X-Men ‘97 figure.

A part of Mondo's WonderCon 2025 collection, their new X-Men ‘97 figure is of Wolverine in his brown and tan suit. Specifically, based on the Season 1 finale “Tolerance Is Existence”, the “Pryde of the X-Men" Wolverine is a...

The Real Reason Why Marvel's Wolverine And The X-Men Was Canceled On A Massive Cliffhanger
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

2008-2012 was a great yet frustrating era to be a fan of Marvel cartoons. That brief period of time saw the premiere of some of the very best television that's ever adapted Marvel Comics: "The Spectacular Spider-Man," "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes," and "Wolverine and the X-Men." I both blame and cherish these shows for making me a true Marvel Comics fan.

Yet, all these truly marvelous shows concluded prematurely for infuriating bureaucratic reasons. "Spectacular Spider-Man" ended when Sony ceded some Spider-Man television rights back to Marvel. Meanwhile, "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" was canned to make way for the far inferior (and Marvel Cinematic Universe-synergistic) "Avengers Assemble." Lastly, "Wolverine and the X-Men" never made it to season 2 because the show's financing fell apart.

Series writer-producer Joshua Fine confirmed as much in a 2011 interview. Even worse, season 2 was already in production; it had a season outline,...

10 Perfectly Cast Fox X-Men Characters Who Should Appear in the MCU
Image
The X-Men franchise has been around for decades, highlighting the team of mutants fighting against villains while dealing with a world that hates them. The X-Men movies, while flawed, did a great job at introducing the comic characters to the general public, and really set the precedent for what superhero movies could be, which ultimately led to the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With Disney buying Fox and planning on bringing the X-Men over to the MCU, many fans have wondered how the team of mutants will be adapted. While some fans hope for a full reboot with a new cast, there are some characters from the Fox X-Men films that were so perfectly cast, it will be hard for the MCU to beat. With the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, it is clear that some Fox X-Men characters are still just as popular.

Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000)
X-Men: All 6 Magneto actors ranked from worst to best
Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000)
The X-Men are Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants, but none of them are mightier than Magneto. Perhaps the most powerful of all mutants, Erik Lehnsherr made his first appearance in the comics in 1963 and he has endured the test of time, remaining of the most widely-recognized X-Men characters to this day.

It’s not surprising when there are adaptations in the mainstream quite regularly, from the original X-Men movie series to the recent Disney Plus series X-Men ’97, he’s been at the forefront of many of the classic characters’ most well-known adventures. And his powers – and the drive behind them – continue to captivate audiences.

Magneto is a complicated individual, which makes him a powerful character in many senses of the word. He has the ability to manipulate and move metal with his mind, controlling magnetic fields all around him with ease. He's a longtime enemy of the X-Men, as well...

X-Men's Most Underrated Animated Series Is Still Worth Watching 21 Years Later
Image
Marvel's mutants are once again dominating animation, and it's the perfect time to revisit an under-appreciated X-Men cartoon that ended way back in 2003. X-Men: The Animated Series is back in public discourse, and for a good reason. While expectations were high for X-Men '97, few predicted that it would be one of Marvel's better projects of all time - animated or otherwise.

However, while X-Men: The Animated Series is rightfully iconic, it's far from the team's only show well-worth watching. X-Men:tas defined Xavier's team of heroes for a generation in the 90s, but it's far from the only show to prove influential and add to the overall X-Men mythos. Just three years after the famous animated series ended, X-Men: Evolution began its four-season run and delivered a bold new take on the mutant formula.

Why X-Men: Evolution Isn't As Well-Remembered As X-Men: Tas The Other Animated Marvel Show...

'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' is Not Canon to the MCU
Image
With the conclusion of What If...?, Marvel Animation released the teaser trailer for their upcoming animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Originally announced as Spider-Man: Freshman Year, the series seemingly would be a new take on Peter Parker's origin story of becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, as when audiences met him in Captain America: Civil War, he had already been operating for a few years. Yet since the series' announcement, it has pivoted away from the main MCU canon, as signified not only by the new title but also by the presence of characters not in the MCU, like Norman Osborn.

If anyone had any doubts that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was not MCU canon, then Marvel Studios' head of streaming, television, and animation, Brad Winderbaum, is setting the record straight. Speaking with Phase Hero's Brandon Davis (see video below), Winderbaum revealed that while the animated Spider-Man series was...

Quick Links The Animated Origins of X-23 X-23 and Her History in Film Why Is X-23 In Deadpool & Wolverine

Despite opening in less than a week, Deadpool & Wolverine decided to release one more trailer that revealed that a fan-favorite character would be joining the film. The third Deadpool film is a meta-movie about the character going from the 20th Century Fox X-Men film universe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe while also being a love letter and farewell to over 20 years of non-mcu Marvel movies. The film features Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Aaron Stanford as Pyro, Tyler Maine as Sabretooth, and Jennifer Garner as Elektra, but the latest trailer revealed another hero: Laura Kinney, aka X-23, played by Dafne Keen.

10 Comic Book Movies That Are Perfect From Start To Finish
Image
Marvel and DC have both delivered some iconic superhero movies. Examples like "Logan," "Infinity War," and "Into The Spider-Verse" combined critical acclaim & box office success. Superhero films like "The Dark Knight" redefined the genre, setting high standards in storytelling for comic book adaptations.

Comic book movies may receive a little too much flak, but there is no denying that a select few Marvel and DC offerings are nothing short of perfect. Superhero films are more of a mainstay in cinema than they have ever been thanks to some of the most iconic comic book movies launching the genre into the stratosphere. The sheer number that exists today means that creators are under more pressure to deliver some semblance of uniqueness - and these examples certainly deliver.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe remains the most successful movie franchise in history with a total worldwide box office that feels unassailable at this point.

Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer Confirms Return of Beloved Logan Character
Image
“You’ve got the wrong guy,” sneers Wolverine in the latest and final trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine.

“You were always the wrong guy,” comes the rejoinder, which would have been powerful said by anyone, but gets all the more cutting because of who delivered it: Laura aka X-23, once again played by Dafne Keen.

Ever since Hugh Jackman announced his return to the world of superheroes as Wolverine, fans have worried about the sanctity of his last outing, Logan. In addition to fully embracing the themes of regret and violence that have always driven Wolverine, Logan gave the hero a moving and well-deserved ending that seemed permanent when Jackman announced his retirement from the character.

The newest and final trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine goes to great lengths to assure viewers that Logan remains unsullied. Throughout the surprisingly sober teaser, Wolverine distinguishes himself as a multiversal variant of those seen in previous X-Men movies,...

20 Years After Her Debut, Marvel Recreates the First Image of Wolverine's Daughter X-23
Image
Marvel's Nyx relaunch pays homage to the original series with a cover referencing X-23's first appearance. Nyx (2024) explores the aftermath of the Krakoan Era and features Laura Kinney and other young mutants living in New York City. The new series may have more connections to the original Nyx series than previously thought, including possible appearances by the original cast.

More than 20 years after the publication of Marvel's original Nyx series, the upcoming Nyx relaunch is harkening back to its original namesake with a cover homaging the first appearance of X-23, the once and future Wolverine. Its a surprising tribute to a controversial series, but one that makes sense as Wolverine returns to New York City. How the original series impacts this new story remains ambiguous, but this new cover gives hints that it hasnt been forgotten entirely.

“I did it in a page and a half”: For 15 Years, Marvel Was Struggling to Come up With a Superhero Who Will Most Likely Replace Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine after Avengers 6
Image
As we edge closer to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine and everything that the film is set to represent, fan expectations, as one would expect, are at an all-time high. The MCU has struggled in recent years and appears to have pinned a lot on the upcoming Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds-starrer, which most notably sees the return of Wolverine to live-action since 2017’s Logan.

Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen in Logan. | Sony

The movie was not only praised for its stellar narrative, but it also brought forth the character of X-23, played by Dafne Keen, a potential replacement for Jackman’s character once he eventually hangs up his boots. The MCU will also need to be well-prepared for that eventuality, as even if Wolverine plays a major role in upcoming Avengers narratives, his clone and adoptive daughter is the obvious replacement who is bound to take up the mantle in due time.

Cyclops finally gets the MCU costume he deserves in a cosplay that perfectly captures a source material-based design that all fans can agree is an inarguable classic. This animation-to-live-action recreation will give die-hard fans a new appreciation for the original art and might even lead some enthusiasts to demand that Marvel seriously consider this design for future X-Men projects involving Scott Summers.

10 Missing X-Men: Tas Characters Who Could Debut In X-Men '97 Season 2

X-Men '97 introduces new characters in Season 2, offering deeper narratives and expanding the Marvel universe. The revival maintains the legacy of X-Men: Tas, setting the stage for compelling storylines and character development. Characters like Kitty Pryde, Danielle Moonstar, and X-23 could bring fresh dynamics and depth to X-Men '97 Season 2.

X-Men '97 still has a swathe of characters to introduce who didn't previously appear in X-Men: The Animated Series. X-Men: The Animated Series boasted a stunning array of Marvel characters throughout its iconic run in the 1990s. The X-Men '97 cast introduced several additional characters from the X-Men pantheon. However, some characters never made it into either but would make especially compelling additions to X-Men '97 season 2.

The X-Men: Tas revival has proven itself so triumphant that X-Men '97 season 2 was confirmed before season 1 was even released. Season 2 promises to maintain this impeccable reputation for complex narratives and nuanced characterization.

X-Men 97 Nominated at the Gotham TV Awards, Predicted to Win Emmys - Main Image

The dust has barely settled since the season finale of X-Men ‘97 dropped, yet the accolades have already started to pour in.

The highly-acclaimed animated series is nominated in the Breakthrough Drama Series category at the 2024 Gotham TV Awards, with credit to Beau DeMayo as creator and Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Kevin Feige, Brad Winderbaum, and DeMayo as executive producers.

It is up against some serious competition in the category, versus Black Cake, Fallout, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and The Curse; however, it is worth noting that X-Men ‘97 is the only animated show to get a nomination in this year’s awards.

Nominees for the annual Gotham Awards are selected by a panel of film and television critics, journalists, and festival programmers, with the award ceremony to be held on June 4, 2024.

10 Powers Mystique Still Hasn't Used In 7 Live-Action Movies

Mystique's powers in the Fox X-Men movies were impressive, but they omitted many abilities seen in Marvel Comics, like animal transformation. X-Men: Evolution Nearly Gave One Fan-favorite Character a Look Many Today Would Consider Racist: “But we didn’t go that way”
Image
It has been often seen in several movies and series that people of color (usually people of African heritage) spot a braided hairstyle. Alongside the braided hairstyle, an almost bald look or a one-side cut is also often seen with these characters.

People might call it stereotypical and even borderline racism, but this was the norm during the early 2000s. Well, with the animated series X-Men: Evolution, one character was almost about to suffer the same fate until the executive producers decided to step in and change it to something unique.

A still from X-Men: Evolution (2000-2003)

X-Men: Evolution Saved Itself From Being Stereotypical

Back in the early 2000s, X-Men: Evolution was a newly animated series based on, well… the X-Men. However, the series had to go above and beyond the walls set by its predecessor X-Men: The Animated Series, and hence, had to include new characters.

“The network really boxed us in”: Marvel Fans Will be Furious to Know How Kids’ WB Forced a Major Change in X-Men: Evolution
Image
1992 was a pivotal year for superheroes, as it witnessed DC and Marvel kickstarting two iconic shows, which would go on to change the comic-book landscape forever. While Bruce Timm gave us the definitive version of the caped crusader with Batman: The Animated Series, with X-Men: The Animated Series, Larry Houston gave fans the definitive X-Men experience.

Considering how influential X-Men: The Animated Series was for the genre as a whole, the series that succeeded had pretty big shoes to fill. However, the creators were shot in the foot by Kids’ WB, after they were denied to include one element, which was crucial for the character’s development.

X-Men: Evolution showcased the teenage Marvel mutants in immersive episodes filled with coming-of-age themes and complex character dynamics. Noteworthy episodes like "Under Lock and Key" and "Day of Reckoning" set the stage for riveting confrontations and plot developments. "Ascension - Part 2" serves as the explosive finale of X-Men: Evolution, delivering a thrilling conclusion with intense action and philosophical debates.

X-Men: Evolution depicted the famed mutant heroes across 52 thrilling episodes, though some are particularly noteworthy. X-Men: Evolution follows a teenage rendition of the Marvel mutants as Professor Charles Xavier recruits them into his School for Gifted Youngsters. “They would never let us do it”: X-Men: Evolution’s Revolutionary Step Proves it Was a Much Better Series for a Reboot Than X-Men ’97
Image
There are very few Marvel franchises that are as popular and beloved as the X-Men, since they have had a strong grip over quite a few mediums in the past several decades. With that said, most fans fondly remember their numerous animated shows, especially X-Men: Evolution.

X-Men ’97

X-Men ’97 might be the latest show featuring everyone’s favorite mutants, but many fans truly believe X-Men: Evolution deserved a reboot instead, especially considering the huge steps the show took back in the day.

X-Men: Evolution‘s Incredible Step Shows It Deserved A Reboot Instead of X-Men ’97 X-Men: Evolution

When X-Men: Evolution premiered in 2000, it faced daunting odds. Not only did it have to follow the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series, but it also had to carve out its own identity. However, over its 52-episode run, the series defied its critics by consistently delivering compelling stories.

Before X-Men ’97, Real Reason a Marvel Animated Show Gave us X-23 Would Not Sit Well With Loyal Wolverine Fans

X-Men is one of Marvel’s most popular superhero teams. The team arguably comes 2nd in popularity right after The Avengers as the latter has gained a lot of admiration and acclaim since their live-action adaptation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel has also made a lot of animated series, and live-action movies to explore the adventure and storylines of the mutant superheroes. In one such series, Marvel decided to debut the character of X-23, kind of a younger version of Wolverine.

The history of X-23

Laura Kinney is the real name of the mutant X-23 that Dr. Zander Rice created to be the perfect killing machine. X-23 has dual adamantium claws in both her palms and advanced regenerative healing much like her adoptive father, Wolverine.

‘X-Men: Evolution’ Is Better Than ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’
Image
The X-Men have been a staple of television for a very, very long time. Even before they helped kick-start the superhero movie boom, Marvel's mighty mutants appeared in various animated series, including Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and X-Men: Pryde of The X-Men. Most fans will point to X-Men: The Animated Series as the pinnacle of these shows; after all, it managed to introduce the X-Men to a wider audience. Now that X-Men '97 has made a triumphant return to this version of the X-Men, the debate has been reopened (even if everyone agrees the theme song is still incredible). But there's another X-Men series that deserves just as much recognition, if not the title of "best X-Men series" ever. That series happens to be X-Men: Evolution.

X-Men Fans Need to Watch This Underrated Animated Series on Disney+
Image
The X-Men '97 revival introduces a new era with Cyclops leading and Magneto as an ally, but it isn't the only prominent X-Men show. X-Men: Evolution stands out by modernizing the X-Men through a high school drama. Evolution includes multiple characters that X-Men '97 and X-Men: The Animated Series completely ignored, which offers more content for lovable characters.

Decades after X-Men: The Animated Series ended in 1997, Marvel Studios elected to revive the show in the form of X-Men '97. Charles Xavier is dead, Cyclops is trying to lead the team through a new era, and Magneto is trying to prove himself as a leader and an ally to his mutant brethren. It's a fascinating time for the X-Men and appears to be an early sign of what the team might look like when they enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Forget X-Men: The Animated Series, This Underrated 2010s Thriller Is Still The Best X-Men Show
Image
Legion offers a unique take on the X-Men universe with a focus on social exclusion and complex character development. The show's surrealist adventure, mind-bending scenarios, and well-rounded villains set it apart from other X-Men classics. Legion's narrative explores themes of alienation and loneliness, delivering a tribute to the X-Men without direct references.

With X-Men '97 out now, the Marvel cult classic X-Men: The Animated Series finds a new life. Still, despite the cartoon’s revered status, it was the live-action venture Legion that challenged the notions of storytelling within the X-Men mythos but went largely under the radar. Out of all the X-Men animated shows so far, the 90s-era series and X-Men: Evolution have best endured as fan favorites. The history of X-Men live-action shows is more tumultuous, with the earliest examples being the 1996 TV pilot Generation X and the 2000s-era unlicensed series Mutant X, was abruptly canceled after two seasons.

35 Years Ago, A Failed X-Men Series Made Wolverine Australian Long Before Jackman's Casting
Image
Wolverine's Australian accent led to criticism in the 1989 X-Men pilot, despite comic-accurate costumes and impressive animation. X-Men: The Animated Series improved upon the 1989 pilot with emotional storytelling, serious themes, and a memorable theme song. Despite the failure of X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men, it inspired successful X-Men video games in the 1980s and 1990s, leaving behind a legacy.

Hugh Jackman is iconic as Wolverine, but some may be surprised to hear that a long-forgotten X-Men project had a different Australian play the role years earlier. Apart from the Fox X-Men movies, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s mutant ensemble has been reinterpreted in animation time and again with a coming-of-age makeover (X-Men: Evolution), a post-apocalyptic saga (Wolverine and the X-Men), and even a limited anime run. But the progenitor of this legacy was an ill-fated 1989 TV episode which, despite impressive animation, didn’t stick the landing.

Now, as X-Men ‘97...

Another X-Men Animated Show Needs A Revival After X-Men '97
Image
X-Men '97 continues the legacy of X-Men: The Animated Series with familiar voices and the iconic theme song. X-Men: Evolution is overdue for a sequel series, offering a fresh take on young characters and unresolved storylines. Marvel relaunching X-Men: Evolution would be nostalgic yet meaningful, as the series didn't have proper closure and has unexplored potential.

The X-Men comics have yielded a string of Marvel animated classics, including the 90s-era X-Men: The Animated Series, the dystopian Wolverine and the X-Men, two anime adaptations, and X-Men: Evolution, the coming-of-age spin on the mutant superteam. In terms of longevity and impact on pop culture, X-Men: The Animated Series overshadows the rest and its legacy continues in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise with the 2024 revival, X-Men '97. With X-Men '97 including an all-star cast of returning voice actors and revisiting the iconic theme song, the series aces fan service while also carrying last season’s open-ended premise forward.

Dbz and Its History With the Ocean Group Dub
Image
Dubbing is an art, not science, and requires collaboration among actors, writers, translators, and production staff to capture the essence of a series. The Ocean Group played a significant role in the early English dub of Dragon Ball, creating unique differences and iconic legacies for the series. While Funimation's in-house dub is well-known, the Ocean Dub contributed memorable performances and lore, leaving a lasting impact on fans worldwide.

Dubbing is more of an art than a science. What works in one dub for one series will not work in another and that can make the whole premise a bit shaky. Excellent and memorable dubs are often the result of a labor of love. The actors, writers, translators, and production staff are usually all in on the project and work together to make the lines sound right. While it is definitely a lot of work, it is meant to be something...

X-Men '97 Will Continue the Original Cartoon's Story
Image
X-Men '97 might be going old school, but it's acting like no time has passed.

Following the release of the highly anticipated X-Men: The Animated Series sequel's trailer, showrunner Beau DeMayo spoke with Entertainment Weekly on what fans can expect from the classic X-Men, including how their outfits fit into the team's next adventure. "Every design choice is actually a clue to the storylines we're doing. Nothing is arbitrary," he teased, partially labeling these designs a callback to the show's predecessor, Pryde of the X-Men. The other reason, DeMayo added, was to "throw the X-Men back to a time where they're thinking about: What part of this do I want to keep? Was it truly simpler back then, or were we just more naive?"

‘X-Men ’97’ Trailer: New Disney+ Series Continues the Classic ’90s Cartoon After Death of Prof. X
Image
For the first time in over 10 years, a new animated “X-Men” show has arrived.

The first trailer for Disney+’s “X-Men ’97” is here, and it continues the story from the classic ’90s cartoon, “X-Men: The Animated Series.” It begins streaming on Disney+ on March 20.

The beloved “X-Men: The Animated Series” ran from 1992-1997 for five seasons. “X-Men ’97” functions as essentially a sixth season for the show, picking up after the 1997 series finale, “Graduation Day,” in which Prof. Charles Xavier dies. The new trailer shows X-Men members Cyclops, Wolverine, Morph, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jubilee, Bishop and more pick up the pieces after Prof. X perishes.

“We have to say vigilant, the professor entrusted us with his dream,” Cyclops says to his team, as footage shows anti-mutant protests in the streets and a casket containing Prof. X lowered into the ground. The team battles giant Sentinel robots, and the final...

Marvel Has Adapted The Best X-Men Story 4 Times, But Which Is Best?
Image
X-Men: The Last Stand failed to capture the depth and complexity of The Dark Phoenix Saga, diluting the story and omitting important cosmic elements. Dark Phoenix improved upon the adaptation but suffered from a rushed narrative and limited character development, weakening the emotional impact. Wolverine and the X-Men successfully expanded upon the classic story, adding fresh perspectives and unexpected twists, while X-Men: The Animated Series remains the greatest adaptation with its faithful representation and emotional resonance.

The most famous X-Men story has been adapted four times in movies and television series, with very mixed results. Marvel's The Dark Phoenix Saga is celebrated as one of the greatest comic stories of all time. It depicts Jean Grey being possessed by an immense cosmic power, known as the Phoenix Force. The acclaimed X-Men narrative has been depicted several times, each of which was either celebrated or derided.

Which Mutants Should Appear in X-Men '97?
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Multiverse has already begun to embrace the X-Men Animated series that defined the Mutants for a whole generation. While nods to the show such as Professor X's yellow chair in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, have hinted towards further live-action interactions between the project and the MCU, X-Men '97 demonstrates a commitment to the nostalgic project in animation.

X-Men '97 will reunite fans with the classic incarnations of these characters. While the original show featured unforgettable Mutants like Wolverine, Storm, Professor X, and Rogue, the new show can look to the modern comic landscape for some additional figures. These Mutants would fit well into the X-Men '97, with their appearances acting as a potential precursor to a future live-action role.

John Bush, Emmy-Winning Producer on ‘The Simpsons,’ Dies at 69

John Bush, an Emmy-winning producer who worked on such animated shows as The Simpsons, Family Guy and X-Men: Evolution, has died. He was 69.

Bush died Nov. 23 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles of B-cell lymphoma of the brain stem, his friend Kevin Bannerman announced.

Bush’s credits also included King of the Hill, New Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo! and the Gourmet Ghost, Brave Little Toaster films, Oz-themed series, Clerks, Edgar & Ellen and the 2015 movie Open Season: Scared Silly.

All 5 X-Men Animated Series Ranked Worst To Best
Image
X-Men animated series excel in fully developing the team members, unlike the movies. Wolverine's solo series lacked faithful adaptation, with poor animation and voice acting. X-Men: Evolution successfully explores the academic side of the X-Men while influencing the comics.

The X-Men have become well-known for their animated series, with cartoon incarnation of the legendary superhero team having its own unique appeal. Before even the first X-Men movie came to theaters, the mutants of Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters made a name for themselves in animation, debuting on TV screens in 1992. However, not all the X-Men's ventures into the medium have been successful, with the redundantly-titled TV pilot X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men failing to materialize, despite the efforts of its Australian-accented Wolverine.

As a concept, the X-Men almost work better within the context of a serialized cartoon to begin with. The X-Men movies sometimes struggled to...

8 Surprising Ways Marvel Movies & TV Shows Have Changed X-Men Comics
Image
The X-Men comics have been influenced by their movie and TV adaptations, just like DC Comics. The X-Men's iconic black and yellow outfits in the comics were inspired by the movies' leather uniforms. Kamala Khan's mutant abilities were introduced in the comics following her appearance in the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series.

The X-Men have had a long, tumultuous relationship with Marvel's movie and TV offerings, but the comics have taken a considerable amount of influence from their various adaptations over the years. Instances in DC Comics in which the source material took notes from the movies and TV shows are more well-known, such as Harley Quinn's introduction in Batman: The Animated Series, as well as the expanded backstory of Mr. Freeze. But Marvel Comics have been just as influenced, if not more so, by the popularity of their stories on screens big and small.

Transformers: Beast Wars and Dragon Ball Z Star Pauline Newstone Has Passed Away
Image
A voiceover artist known for her role in Beast Wars: Transformers has sadly been confirmed as having passed away.

Pauline Newstone was a Canadian voice acting talent with a long career, and she supplied her vocals to several franchises. These included Western animation, as well as English dubs of numerous anime. Newstone's passing at the age of 79 actually occurred early in May 2023, though the exact reasons are not currently known. The news was broadcast on Twitter/X by Candice Santora, a collaborator of Garry Chalk. Chalk worked alongside Pauline Newstone on the show that became one of her most notable gigs.

One of Pauline Newstone's most well-known roles was in the CGI Mainframe animated series Beast Wars: Transformers. This 1996-1998 cartoon was a unique entry in Hasbro's Transformers franchise. Radically different from the previous 1980s animated series from Sunbow, this series replaced the franchise's Autobots and Decepticons with Maximals and Predacons.

The X-Men Movies Almost Changed Rogue In The Comics
Image
For as long as I've known the X-Men, Rogue has been one of my favorite members of the team. It was her white-streaked hair and charming Southern Belle accent that first caught my notice, but what makes Rogue endure is her tortured soul.

Her untamed powers, to lethally absorb the vitality, memories, and superabilities of other people, prevent her from touching anyone; her first kiss put her boyfriend in a coma. So, she keeps herself closed off, too afraid of hurting others to get close to them — even her true love Gambit/Remy LeBeau. With this intersection of superpowers and characterization, Rogue shows how not all mutant powers are blessings. Due to underserved sex education in the United States, plenty of teens (especially queer ones) can relate to Rogue's fear that intimacy will cause calamity.

Now, most "X-Men" characters have complicated histories and Rogue is no different. Writer Chris Claremont...

Why Transformers' Voice Actor David Kaye Was So Surprised By His Optimus Prime Casting
Image
Voice actor David Kaye still remembers getting the news he'd been cast on "Transformers: Animated." Two weeks after a callback where he read for multiple characters, he got a call from his agent. Kaye, who was driving in downtown LA, answered his phone and heard the news: he'd got the part ... of Optimus Prime. Kaye's response as he swerved his car: "Who?!"

While Kaye had read for Optimus Prime (and noticed voice director Susan Blu liked what he was doing), he walked into the audition expecting to get a different part. The part, in fact, that was furthest from Optimus Prime — Megatron. At the time, Kaye had been voicing Megatron for about a decade, first in "Beast Wars."

During the 1990s and 2000s, Kaye was a staple of Canada's voice-acting pool. Mainframe Entertainment, based in Vancouver, developed "Beast Wars" and recruited local talent, Kaye among them. A few years later,...
