Florence Pugh Worldwide Box Office: Career Total Crosses This Mark & Ryan Gosling As One Of The Highest-Grossing Actors, Due To Thunderbolts* $150M+ Debut
Image
Florence Pugh Worldwide Box Office Beats Ryan Gosling Career Total Collection ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

English actress Florence Pugh is being praised for her heartfelt performance in Thunderbolts*. The film’s decent opening has helped the actress surpass a significant milestone at the worldwide box office. She has surpassed Ryan Gosling as one of the highest-grossing Hollywood stars, a remarkable feat indeed. Keep scrolling for the deets.

Florence made her acting debut in 2014’s The Falling and gradually gained recognition for her powerful and versatile performances. On the other hand, Gosling started his career as a child actor and got his breakthrough in 2001’s The Believer, over a decade before Pugh got into acting. She even clashed with Gosling in 2023 as Oppenheimer and Barbie clashed. Although Florence had limited screen time, it still stood out.

After Barbie, Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy failed to impress the audience and thus was not a box office success.

'Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy': Ryan Gosling’s Only Western Is Streaming Free on Amazon Freevee
Image
Those Ryan Gosling fans hankering to see the Canadian actor in the only Western movie of his career thus far are in luck. The 1998 TV movie Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy is free to stream on Amazon Freevee, allowing Gosling fans to see him in an early one-of-a-kind role that flashed his precocious acting talents and led to his A-list Hollywood status.

Well-received enough to spawn a TV series from 1998 to 2000, Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy is a romantic comedic western that tracks a trio of cattle ranchers in British Columbia in the 1940s. With a wealth of TV experience from his Young Hercules days, Gosling shines with the charming magnetism he's known for today, crafting a compelling and credible cowboy character. While not a life-changing event, Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy is a must-see for Gosling diehards and completists.

A 2024 Ryan Gosling Flop Is Finally Finding Its Audience On Amazon Prime Video
Image
Movie stardom is incredibly difficult to achieve, and even more difficult to maintain. Once an actor finds that breakthrough role, they're immediately faced with the challenge of giving their fans what they want while also, depending on their level of ambition, taking on roles that will hopefully expand their range (or at the very least keep them from getting stuck in a creative rut). Some actors correctly identify that their audience isn't looking for much in the way of variance (John Wayne is a perfect example of this), while others are determined to throw a curveball here and there (as Sylvester Stallone's unwisely did with poorly received comedies like "Rhinestone" and "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot"). Mess with expectations too much, and the fans will stop trusting you to deliver.

Wayne and Stallone at least had a go-to mode of movie they could return to as needed to satisfy their audiences.

Steve Carell: ‘For real, you can see blood!’ on Almost Losing a Body Part in 1 Movie That Put Him on Hollywood’s Map
Image
Steve Carell recalled a literally painful memory from shooting his iconic 2005 comedy film The 40-Year-Old Virgin where he almost got seriously injured because of one waxing scene. Actors sacrifice a lot to deliver their roles perfectly, and sometimes, it comes to a point where their health is put at risk.

Credits: Steve Carell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin / Universal Pictures

In the case of Carell, his chest almost got mutilated and he remembered seeing blood. This is already too much for one small scene in the film, and his willingness not to use prosthetics definitely took a setback.

The Mandalorian at 5: The 5 most shocking moments from the series
Image
The Mandalorian has taken fans on quite a journey in the past 5 years, and the rollercoaster ride includes several shocking moments that the fandom still talks about. There is plenty to talk about, from jaw-dropping cameos to monumental reveals and Din Djarin's historic helmet reveal.

We count down the 5 most shocking moments from The Mandalorian series so far.

1. "Species age differently..."

Ig-11 (Taika Waititi) and The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian's biggest surprise was revealed as a little green bundle of joy in the final few seconds of the series premiere. As a wide-eyed baby that looked strikingly familiar stared back at Mando, fans lost their minds and hearts forever. It was the best-kept secret of any Star Wars project, besides Darth Vader being Luke Skywalker's father (unless David Prowse said something).

No one expected the show to go in this direction,...

Did You Know Ryan Gosling Was Cast in The Notebook Only Because of His ‘Lack of Handsomeness’?

Did You Know Ryan Gosling Was Cast in The Notebook Only Because of His ‘Lack of Handsomeness’? (Photo Credit – Netflix)

Plot twist: Ryan Gosling got The Notebook role because he wasn’t “handsome” enough! Director Nick Cassavetes alluded in one interview that he wasn’t the typical heartthrob—just a regular guy who looked “a bit nuts.”

Imagine this: Author Nicholas Sparks couldn’t find an actor willing to play Noah. Why? No one wanted to sign up for a role that’s all about waiting around for love and, spoiler alert, still being in love at the end! Sparks spilled the tea in 2016, saying, “No one wanted to play Noah. They all asked, ‘What’s his arc?’ And I was like, ‘He’s just madly in love, folks, that’s the whole point!'”

Then, like a knight in slightly rumpled armor, in walked Gosling. He wasn’t the textbook handsome,...

The Mandalorian & Grogu: A path to Din Djarin removing his helmet
Image
If you thought Din Djarin removing his helmet would become a regular thing, or at least something he admits isn't an unforgivable sin, The Mandalorian Season 3 probably proved you wrong. Many are now left wondering if the helmet dilemma is resolved for good after Din bathed in the living waters on Mandalore.

Season 3 saw Din reverting to his strict adherence to the Mandalorian creed, including the part about never removing his helmet. Still, we can't completely rule out the possibility that he'll go through something that forces him to remove it. The question is, what will it take? The truth is Din Djarin needs to go through an experience akin to Ahsoka episode 5, "Shadow Warrior," which changed Ahsoka Tano's outlook, including her outward appearance.

Denzel Washington's 2000 Sports Drama Launched 3 A-List Actors' Movie Careers
Image
"Remember the Titans" launched the movie careers of Ryan Gosling, Hayden Panettiere, and Kate Bosworth. Gosling transitioned from TV to film after "Titans" and later starred in "The Notebook" and "La La Land." Panettiere's role as Sheryl Yoast in "Titans" led to "Heroes" and a successful career in film and TV.

Few movies have launched the careers of more than one A-list actor, and one sports drama starring Denzel Washington marked the beginning of the movie careers of three well-known actors. Denzel Washington has a variety of movies in his extensive filmography, and one of his most memorable and beloved works is Remember the Titans. Released in 2000 and directed by Boaz Yakin, Remember the Titans is loosely based on the true story of Herman Boone, coach of the 1971 T.C. Williams High School football team.

Remember the Titans follows Boone (Washington), who, in 1971, is hired as head coach of T.C. Williams High School,...

One Mandalorian Episode Has Become Such A Tough Rewatch 4 Years Later
Image
The Nevarro trio's fractured dynamic post-The Mandalorian season 2 affects the rewatchability of the episode "Chapter 12: The Siege." Gina Carano's firing led to the cancelation of Rangers of the New Republic, impacting the episode's setup for the spin-off series. Behind-the-scenes issues such as cast departures and canceled spin-offs detract from enjoying the episode.

While I would consider The Mandalorian to be one of the most rewatchable Star Wars projects to date, I've found that I have a hard time going back to one particular episode from season 2. With The Mandalorian being my personal favorite Star Wars project, I've revisited the series plenty of times, especially its first two seasons. I prefer not to skip any episodes when I do a rewatch, though the temptation to get to my favorite episodes can make that difficult. While this wasn't always a challenge, one episode in particular now gives me pause.

“Didn’t he say no more dark films”: Ryan Gosling’s Rumored Zombie Movie Sounds Nothing Like Barbie
Image
Making an acting debut at the age of 13, Ryan Gosling began his career with kid-friendly roles such as The Mickey Mouse Club before branching off into the likes of Are You Afraid of the Dark, while still a child actor. A crime thriller, The Believer, marked his breakthrough role in 2001 and sent him off on a journey that would see him play versatile roles across dozens of genres.

However, he would still venture into the more serious side of cinema with new roles, even as light-hearted ones kept coming.

“The radical new take is that this one will be good”: Mike Flanagan Eyes to Save ‘The Exorcist’ from Certain Doom That Might Make William Friedkin Proud
Image
William Friedkin’s The Exorcist was one of the few horror movies that managed to keep its viewers up late at night, tucked in the safety of their blankets. If they needed a glass of water and that clock was past midnight, they would just have to wait till the sun was up to quench their thirst. A true horror film in all its glory! And now, director Mike Flanagan will be taking on the responsibility of taking the franchise a step forward.

William Friedkin’s The Exorcist (1973) | Warner Bros.

The Exorcist has had quite a few sequels to date, 5 to be exact. Unfortunately, none of them had an impact on their audience like the O.G. The franchise also produced a television series, The Exorcist, which did well. Coming back to the movies, one failed sequel after the other slowly extinguished the fans’ hopes, and they gave up on the franchise altogether.

Paramount Preempts Chris McCoy’s Thriller Spec ‘Hit The Gas’; Neal Moritz To Produce

Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)

Starting at a young age, Gosling managed to sidestep the drama that has plagued many notable child stars in Hollywood's history.

The actor likely saw the downfall of fellow industry peers and prioritized his mental health to avoid such pitfalls.

Whatever the case, Ryan has also made a name for himself...

Ryan Gosling Says He's Turned Away from Darker Roles for His Family & Mental Health
Image
Ryan Gosling's shift to lighter roles stemmed from family priorities, avoiding dark characters for better mental health. La La Land marked the turning point for Gosling, as he embraced more inspiring and mainstream film projects. The Fall Guy aligns with Gosling's current priorities, offering a mix of comedy and action without bringing darkness home.

Given his recent movie choices, it might be hard to remember, but Ryan Gosling used to dabble in very dark and brooding roles primarily. From playing a neo-Nazi in 2001's The Believer, to playing a serial killer in training in 2002's Murder By Numbers, to playing a man in a marriage that is tragically dissolving in 2010's Blue Valentine, Gosling was never afraid to tap into very serious and complex emotions. That has changed in recent years with lighter roles in Barbie and the recently released action comedy, The Fall Guy, and, as it turns out,...

Wait, Is That Vin Diesel In Netflix's Wages Of Fear Remake?! Actor Confusion Explained
Image
Warning: Major spoilers for The Wages of Fear (2024) below!

The Wages of Fear 2024 stars Franck Gastambide, not Vin Diesel, even if the resemblance between the stars is uncanny! Netflix's remake feels like a bland mix of Fast and Furious and Call of Duty. The 2024 remake of the classic original could have used Vin Diesel's star power.

Netflix's remake of The Wages of Fear sure looks like it stars Vin Diesel, so where is the confusion coming from? The original Wages of Fear is a nerve-shredding black-and-white thriller from 1953. This Henri-Georges Clouzot-helmed adventure sees a group of men hired to drive trucks filled with unstable nitroglycerine over dangerous terrority to extinguish a blazing oil fire. Why Ryan Gosling Originally Turned Down The Part Of Ken
Image
His portrayal of the beach-protecting, Barbie-loving Ken and his power anthem "I'm Just Ken" has now become a pop culture phenomenon, but Ryan Gosling initially turned down the role. For director Greta Gerwig, however, there was no alternative. She even wrote it into the script, where the main Ken is identified throughout as "Ken Ryan Gosling." Gerwig told SiriusXM that she and Margot Robbie sent Gosling numerous texts and promised daily presents on set to try and convince him.

"He absolutely passed," Robbie told Variety, but she and Gerwig persevered. "Every time he's like, 'I'm not doing this,' we were like, 'We are doing it, and it's going to be fun.'" As Gosling himself explained, one of main barriers was the classic Hollywood problem of scheduling conflicts: "There were actual reasons why I couldn't do the film. Schedule things. Life things."

But another reason for Gosling's trepidation was...

A Sundance Film Festival favorite and winner of that year’s Grand Jury Prize, the film sports a deliciously loaded premise following the life of Daniel Balint (Gosling), a neo-Nazi who, unbeknownst to the anti-Semitic gang he runs with, is secretly Jewish. Barbie 2 Would Be A Major Career First For Ryan Gosling After 25 Years
Image
Ryan Gosling has never returned for a sequel or spin-off film in his 25-year-long career. His role as Ken in Barbie was a career-defining performance and a highlight of the film. While a sequel or spin-off might be fun, it is not necessary and probably shouldn't happen, despite the success of the first Barbie film.

If it actually happens, Barbie 2 — or even a Ken-centered spin-off — would mark a major career first for Barbie movie actor Ryan Gosling and his over 25-year-long career. The Oscar-nominated actor got his start on the Disney Channel's The Mickey Mouse Club during the mid-90s, and landed a few TV roles before starring in Sundance Film Festival's 2001 Grand Jury Prize-winner The Believer. From there, Gosling became a household name after appearing opposite Rachel McAdams in 2004's romantic drama The Notebook. The actor earned his first Academy Award nomination for 2006's indie drama Half Nelson.

One Shocking Mandalorian Fact Explains Why Star Wars Couldn't Keep Din Djarin & Grogu Apart
Image
Only one episode of The Mandalorian does not feature Grogu, highlighting his importance to the show. The heart of The Mandalorian is the relationship between Din and Grogu, making them both central characters. Lucasfilm prioritized reuniting Din and Grogu quickly due to Grogu's significance and fan reaction.

A surprising Star Wars fact explains why The Mandalorian could not keep Din Djarin and Grogu apart. The Mandalorian season 4's story will detail the continued adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu, the beloved surrogate father-son duo of the show. This seems like a far cry from the supposed status quo that many assumed had been established during The Mandalorian season 2's climactic ending.

In The Mandalorian season 2, Grogu was whisked away by Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker so that the former could begin training as a Jedi Knight. This seemingly teased that the future of The Mandalorian's Grogu would be non-existent as his story had ended,...

10 MCU Characters Ryan Gosling Could Play In Phase 6
Image
Ryan Gosling could potentially join the MCU and portray characters such as Ka-Zar, the Silver Surfer, Quasar, Norman Osborn, Nova or Cyclops. Ryan Gosling has expressed interest in portraying Ghost Rider in the MCU, and with more focus on mature stories in the Multiverse Saga, now may be the perfect time for this to happen. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige previously stated that he would love for Ryan Gosling to have a role in the MCU, particularly after seeing him as Ken in 2023's Barbie.

For a number of years, there has been speculation that actor Ryan Gosling could join the MCU, and there are several powerful characters from Marvel Comics that he could bring to life in Marvel Studios' ever-growing superhero franchise. Ryan Gosling rose to prominence as a child actor in the 1990s, though his breakthrough roles include 2001's The Believer and 2004's The Notebook. Since then, Gosling...

Only One Episode Of The Mandalorian Doesn't Have Grogu (& It's Still All About Him)
Image
Grogu's absence in one episode of The Mandalorian highlights the strong bond between him and Din Djarin. Despite Grogu not physically appearing, "The Believer" episode revolves around his rescue and Din's sacrifice for him. Din's love for Grogu is the heartbeat of The Mandalorian, as it explores the lengths one is willing to go to protect loved ones.

The Mandalorian has become one of Star Wars' most beloved shows because of the relationship between Din Djarin and his adopted son Grogu, though Grogu was missing from one episode of the show. Grogu was initially found as a bounty of Din Djarin in The Mandalorian’s series premiere on the planet Arvala-7, and the pair instantly had an interesting chemistry. Din Djarin had an obvious affection for the little green alien, as shown by his willingness to save him from the Imperial remnants. The Mandalorian has established the theme that...

One Star Wars Scene Is Pedro Pascal's Best In The Mandalorian - Can It Ever Be Equalled?
Image
Pedro Pascal's portrayal of Din Djarin in The Mandalorian is limited due to the character's helmet rule, with Pascal's face shown only three times in the series. Pascal's best performance in Star Wars to date is in "Chapter 15: The Believer," where he delivers a compelling physical performance with only four lines of dialogue. Pascal's physical acting perfectly captures Din Djarin's character, showcasing his nervousness and uncertainty through subtle movements and expressions. Pascal deserves the chance to equal or surpass this scene in the future, but the story will need to allow for it.

There's one scene thus far in The Mandalorian that remains Pedro Pascal's best, raising the question of whether it can ever be equalled or not. Pascal's Din Djarin has quickly become a Star Wars icon, thanks to the global success of The Mandalorian - something that's given the actor himself a breakthrough. Now one...

The Mandalorian Season 3 Abandoned Din Djarin's Most Important Arc - & There's A Simple Reason
Image
The highly-praised and emotional finale of The Mandalorian season 2 changed Din Djarin's helmet rule, but season 3 takes a different turn. Season 3 regresses Din's helmet story, abandoning his important arc and not showing his face at all. Pedro Pascal's busy schedule and physical limitations in the role contribute to the abandonment of Din's arc, but it's possible that future seasons may revisit it.

Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin had an important character arc that felt somewhat abandoned in The Mandalorian season 3, and one of the Star Wars live-action TV show's creators has seemingly confirmed its jarring redirection. The highly-praised and emotional finale of The Mandalorian season 2 makes one thing very clear: Din's helmet rule will never be the same. Mando breaks the helmet rule of his Mandalorian Creed in the penultimate episode of The Mandalorian season 2 in favor of saving Grogu, and after removing it again in the finale for Grogu to see his face,...

Ahsoka Detail Makes One The Mandalorian Season 2 Moment Even More Devastating
Image
Sabine Wren's avoidance of Mandalore is explained - her entire family died during the Great Purge, making the wound fresh for all Mandalorians. Operation: Cinder, an Imperial contingency plan, targeted planets with orbital bombardment - likely including Mandalore. Din Djarin had to hear about the fall of Mandalore without his helmet, forcing him to be vulnerable in a conversation that brought back painful memories.

One important detail about the fall of Mandalore during the Great Purge has been revealed in Ahsoka, and it makes a scene from The Mandalorian season 2 even more devastating. Mandalore has been tied to the latest Star Wars Disney+ TV show ever since Natasha Liu Bordizzo's Sabine Wren was confirmed to appear, given that she's one of the franchise's most notable Mandalorians. Despite the big role she had in liberating Mandalore from the Empire in Star Wars Rebels, Sabine never once appeared during the first 3.5 seasons of The Mandalorian,...

Universal, Blumhouse and Morgan Creek are kicking the October box office off with a bang as The Exorcist: Believer heads towards a massive franchise record opening weekend.

According to Deadline, the R-rated legacy sequel is tracking to open between $30 million and $36 million, which would be the best debut ever for the 50-year-old franchise. Exorcist II: The Heretic opened with $6.7 million, which at the time was an opening weekend record for distributor Warner Bros. Exorcist: The Believer was the previous franchise record holder, earning $18 million over its opening weekend back in 2004.

Before Ken, Ryan Gosling Played Young Hercules
Image
Barbie's very own Ken, Ryan Gosling, isn't a stranger to playing iconic characters. Now known for his standout roles in movies like The Notebook (2004), Lars and the Real Girl (2007), Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), and La La Land (2016), he was director Greta Gerwig's first choice to play the role of Barbie's long-term boyfriend. From romance to subversive to action, Gosling's never stuck to just one type of film. And while he's looking to create a lasting impression playing the famous himbo, he took on a bigger role early in his career.

For its one-season, 50-episode run, Gosling played the titular character in the Fox Kid Network's Young Hercules (1998-1999). The show follows the demigod as he trains at the academy for warriors in Ancient Greece. Gosling was only 17 when he was cast, but this most certainly wasn't his first time in front of the camera.

Exorcist: Believer Director Is 'Not Avoiding' Other Franchise Entries After Halloween
Image
The Exorcist: Believer director David Gordon Green says he is not avoiding other entries in the horror franchise despite his latest movie being a direct sequel to 1973's The Exorcist.

"To be honest, I'm not avoiding any of them, but I don't know them very well," Green told Entertainment Weekly. "I've seen all of them. I've seen Exorcist III more than any of them. I know that one very well. Say what you will about Exorcist II, but it ain't shy. It is a fearless epic of ideas, but [we're] not necessarily following a character from Exorcist: The Beginning. We're not looking into that. It's not that type of a franchise that needs to check boxes, but I've got two more movies, so maybe I'll find some threads to unravel from one of those."

How Barbie Could Influence the Rest of Ryan Gosling's Career
Image
Ryan Gosling has been earning rave reviews for his 100 percent committed performance as Ken in Greta Gerwig's subversive comedic hit, Barbie. The notices have been so good that many believe Gosling is likely guaranteed an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. It should come as no surprise that the actor is good, given the fact that he already has a Golden Globe Award and two Academy Award nominations, but it does prove that Gosling is an accomplished comedic performer that should play things for humor a bit more moving forward.

Gosling's career began on the more lighthearted side at the age of 13 on Disney Channel's The Mickey Mouse Club. Running from 1993-1995, the variety television allowed the actor to showcase his sense of humor along with his musical skills alongside future mega performers that included Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake.

Even though the series was canceled...

Stop-Motion Legend Phil Tippett on the ‘Poker Face’ Episode He Inspired
Image
VFX legend Phil Tippett, whose totally bonkers “Mad God” stop-motion horror film finally got released last year, is a special effects Emmy hopeful this season for an episode of Rian Johnson’s “Poker Face” on Peacock, written and directed by star Natasha Lyonne. He not only contributed old-school monster puppets but also inspired its story about a crusty old stop-motion filmmaker (Nick Nolte). The busy Tippett also supplied hellish cave set designs for Season 3 of “The Mandalorian” (on Disney+).

Both projects came as a result of Tippett’s “Star Wars” fame, which began when he led the Ilm animation department for “The Empire Strikes Back.” On the “Star Wars” sequel, he co-developed the “go motion” animation technique (stop-motion with motion blur) and was responsible for the At-at Imperial Walkers and the hybrid alien Tauntauns. On “Return of the Jedi,” he won his first Oscar for his creature work; with “Jurassic Park,...

Ryan Gosling Tapped Into His Child Star Roots To Embody Ken In Barbie
Image
Ryan Gosling is a very serious actor. His breakthrough performance came in Henry Bean's riveting "The Believer," where he played a Jewish-born neo-nazi. Five years later, he earned his Academy Award nomination for Best Actor as a cocaine-addicted middle school teacher in Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden's "Half Nelson." He earned his second Best Actor nod as a wounded romantic of a jazz pianist in Damien Chazelle's bittersweet "La La Land." In between, he became an art-house tough guy in Nicolas Winding Refn's "Drive" and "Only God Forgives." But he's not above having fun or looking like a total doofus, as he displayed to endearing effect in Shane Black's "The Nice Guys," but there he's playing hard against the dreamboat type that could've made him one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood.

In other words, given that he's steadfastly refused to give his "The Notebook" fans one more swooning,...

Ryan Gosling Says ‘The Notebook’ Director Told Him: ‘You Have No Natural Leading Man Qualities’
Image
With Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” and Universal’s giant action tentpole “The Fall Guy” on the way, Ryan Gosling remains one of Hollywood’s most in-demand leading men. But that wasn’t always the case. The Oscar nominee recently told GQ magazine that his rise to leading man got its start because he landed his first few roles on the belief that he wasn’t leading man material to begin with.

Gosling’s acting breakthrough came in 2001 with his leading role in Henry Bean’s “The Believer,” in which he played a Jewish kid from New York who becomes a Neo-Nazi. Gosling is none of these, but he said “the fact that I wasn’t really right for it was exactly why [Henry] thought I was right for it.” The actor got similar feedback when he went to audition for “The Notebook,” Nick Cassavetes’ 2004 Nicholas Sparks adaptation that turned Gosling and...

Ryan Gosling Is Ken, Ken Is Ryan Gosling, And That’s How It’s Always Been

It’s not that Ryan Gosling is some all-in method actor, reshaping his life to fit the contours of a character. But the thing about this upcoming Barbie movie is that Ryan Gosling really is Ken, and Ken is Ryan Gosling, and it’s always been this way. And when you really think about it, Barbie basically marks the moment when one of the 21st century’s great leading men will finally reach a kind of singularity with his work.

Gosling said all this (well, more or less) in a new interview with GQ,...

One of Ryan Gosling’s Most Compelling Roles Was Also His First
Image
Though his career as a performer truly began as part of The Mickey Mouse Club, Ryan Gosling’s big break as an adult actor didn’t come until 2001’s The Believer, the likes of which remains one of his most compelling roles in spite of its small audience. A Sundance favorite and winner of that year’s Grand Jury Prize, the film sports a deliciously loaded premise following the life of Daniel Balint (Gosling), a neo-Nazi who, unbeknownst to the antisemitic gang he runs with, is secretly Jewish. If that sounds like a story too obscure and contradictory to be plausible, think again! The film was loosely based on Dan Burros, a real-life member of both the American Nazi Party and the United Klans of America who committed suicide after being ousted as a Jewish man.
