DC fans are just a few short months away from the new Dcu’s first film, Superman. The James Gunn-directed spectacle will be filled with many iconic comic book characters. This includes both heroes and villains. On the good-guy side of the equation, Superman’s cousin Supergirl will be making her big-screen return for the epic adventure. Now, before the Dcu takes flight, McFarlane Toys has unveiled their latest batch of Kryptonian comic book figures.
A part of McFarlane's Page Punchers line, the two new seven-inch scale figures are inspired by different comic iterations of Superman and Supergirl. For the Man of Steel, Superman is based on his famous Kingdom Come design, while Supergirl is based on her appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Both figures will come with a reprint comic book. Superman will have Justice Society of America Vol.3 #10 and Supergirl will be accompanied by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow...

James Gunn’s Superman has become one of the most talked about upcoming films. Given that the trend has not softened even after the release of teasers for heavy hitters like Jurassic World: Rebirth and Fantastic Four: First Steps is very telling about the excitement that is surrounding the film.

In the wake of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s victorious launch, players have been losing themselves in a world where every muddy footprint and creaky door hinge feels like a window into medieval Bohemia. The game has already sold over a million copies in its first 24 hours, proving that players are hungry for more than just another fantasy RPG filled with magical card games and fishing mini-games.

Speaking of mini-games, some particularly observant fans have noticed something peculiar about Warhorse Studios’ latest masterpiece—the conspicuous absence of many traditional RPG diversions. While this might seem like an odd choice for a game that prides itself on its rich world, there’s actually a fascinating reason behind this decision.

Mods tend to play a huge part in any game’s engagement with its community. However, who would have guessed it would someday help us judge just how excited fans are for a game, something that has been happening with the recent Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Quick LinksSuperman and Supergirl Can Share a Dcu SequelThis Superman Arc Is Perfect for the DCUOne of Superman's Most Important Villains Must Appear In the Dcu
The first DC Universe movie is still a few months away, with James Gunn's Superman reboot being the first movie in the new shared universe. The next film will be Supergirl, which focuses on Superman's cousin in a story based directly on a comic book storyline. While it's unknown where the two Kryptonians will appear next, there's also a perfect formula for the third Dcu "Super" movie.
A tentative Superman & Supergirl Dcu movie is the most logical way to put the two together, especially since that's unlikely to happen in either of their solo movies. If that's the case, it can also adapt a major story arc from the comics that would thematically act as a great follow-up to the first two DC Universe films.

A new 30-second teaser for James Gunn's highly anticipated Superman movie has come under fire for its perceived use of CG. Following a slew of complaints on social media, the director responded with a very logical explanation.
The clip, shared by Gunn on Threads, features a close-up shot of David Corenswet's Man of Steel soaring through the air faster than a speeding bullet. However, some fans were not pleased with the visual and took their grievances to the comment section. "Looks dope!! Great camera angle of Superman flying! Except there's something with his face that looks a little off. I know there's plenty of time to refine the CG," one person wrote.

Perhaps the most anticipated movie of 2025 is Superman which will launch the DC Universe and bring the Man of Steel back to the movies in a big way. Writer and director James Gunn has been very open about the film's production, and the Superman logo he chose sends a subtle message to fans. Over the past few decades, superheroes and comic stories have grown darker as a way to "modernize" them, but this is perhaps the biggest mistake storytellers made with these mythic figures. Since taking over as co-ceo of DC Studios with Peter Safran, James Gunn has used social media to maintain a dialogue with fans about the new Dcu.

In Star Wars’ sprawling galaxy, Luke Skywalker has his work cut out for him as he does his best to destroy the Empire, talk some sense into his father, and try to rekindle the flames of the Jedi Order, with all of his problems stemming from the saga’s very first entry, Star Wars: A New Hope. In a piece of incredible art by the influential Alex Ross, Luke gets a tribute comic cover that harkens back to the original film’s iconic movie poster.
Now in his third decade of illustrating some of the most gorgeous artwork to have ever graced a comic, Alex Ross cut his teeth working for both Marvel and DC Comics in the ‘90s — 1994’s Marvels and 1996’s Kingdom Come being Alex’s breakthrough projects for each — and has continued his success in the industry as a big-time creator ever since.

In 2024, DC Comics launched its first wave of DC Compact Comics – and now it has released the second batch of Compact titles. The Compact Comics initiative has been DC's way of introducing classic stories to new readers, while also affording a cheaper alternative to physical copies, another reason they are so appealing to new potential comics fans.
As announced by DC, fifteen new DC Compact Comics have been announced, adding to the growing collection of available books.
From All-Star Superman to Watchmen, this line of comics features reprints of some of DC's most iconic stories in convenient 5.5" x 8.5" sized trades. DC Compact Comics also only go for $9.99, cheaper than most traditional trade paperbacks and graphic novels. Because of this, DC Compact Comics have seen great success, and they make great introductory books for new comic readers.

Comic book fans are always trying to pinpoint what exactly separates Marvel Comics and its perennial rival DC Comics, and I think the difference was summed up in a freshly released issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, in which Spidey realizes even the world's greatest heroes will someday be forgotten by history, a philosophy that stands in stark contrast to DC lore.
The Amazing Spider-Man #65 – written by Joe Kelly, with art by Cafu – contains this existential aside from Peter Parker, and it struck me as relevant to what makes Marvel Comics different from DC.
Whether it's the story of Booster Gold (who worked at a 25th-century superhero museum), the Legion of Super-Heroes (who based their 31st-century philosophy on Superman), or Future State: Wonder Woman's revelation that the heroes of the DC Universe will go on to be immortalized as gods in the years to come, DC is clear: their heroes will be remembered forever.

James Gunn has said that there will be select parts of the Dceu that will be canon in his Dcu. The director took over at the tail end of the Dceu, hoping to soft reboot the universe. However, he said that John Cena, Viola Davis and a few other characters will continue to play their roles as they are, while also referencing some events from the Dceu in the new Dcu.

James Gunn was in charge of the Dcu when Shazam: Fury of the Gods came out, which saw the character share a space with Emilia Harcourt, and John Economos, one of whom has already been confirmed to be canon in the MCU. Given that both these characters were in Peacemaker Season 1, which will be canon in the Dcu, it is a possibility that Zachary Levi might have a space in the rebooted franchise.

David Corenswet's Dcu Superman stars in a sweet homage to the Man of Steel's earliest cartoons and James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. Gunn's Superman takes inspiration from storylines such as Kingdom Come and All-Star Superman, as well as the Man of Steel's earliest comic book appearances. The Dcu's version of Superman seems to be aiming for a timeless portrayal of the character, with a somewhat retrofuturistic Metropolis informing his superhero career.
Illustrator and DC fan Dylan Odom shares a fan-made Superman animation on Instagram, starring David Corenswet's Superman as a 1940s cartoon version of the DC hero inspired by the famous 1940s Fleischer Superman animated shorts. The video shows Corenswet's Superman saving the little girl from the trailer, fighting the movie's mystery masked villain, and jumping from the Daily Planet's decorative globe. The teaser of James Gunn and David Corenswet’s Superman (2025) was dropped a couple of weeks ago and let’s just say the doubts DC fans had about this new era vanished like a villain under Superman’s heat vision. Currently, the teaser has a whopping 1.1 million likes to its name. Needless to say, James Gunn came, he saw, he conquered. Now all we need to do is wait for July of this year before we can pass any solid judgments about the upcoming film.

Missing 'Yellowstone'? Watch This Bleak, Unforgiving Western Starring Wes Bentley and Milla Jovovich
If that Yellowstone finale has gotten you down, and you want to see Wes Bentley in a less villainous Western role, then look no further than the 2000 picture, The Claim. The film stars Bentley as Central Pacific Railroad surveyor Donald Dalglish as he arrives in Kingdom Come to meet with a man named Daniel Dillon (Peter Mullan). As he does, Dalglish begins to fall in love, and the audience uncovers a dark secret at the heart of the Dillon's position in the wintery, gold-mining town. A far cry from his performance as Jamie Dutton on Yellowstone, The Claim is one of those long-forgotten Westerns worthy of rediscovery. Oh, and Milla Jovovich is in this one too, perhaps in her very best role yet.

In DC Comics, Robin was the first recruit in Batman’s war against crime, with his flashy yet instantly recognizable outfit being a far cry from the Caped Crusader’s darker-hued and more blatantly scary design. Yet on an alternate Earth featured in the Kingdom Come universe and eventually in DC's main continuity, the role of Robin gave way to a new vigilante named Red Robin, with this character’s costume eschewing far more closely to Batman’s iconic batsuit than ever before.

Warning: Spoilers for Action Comics #1079
For decades, DC fans have wrestled with whether Shazam can beat Superman in a fight. Their respective superhuman abilities elevate them both to god-tier status, yet there still isn't definitive proof that Shazam is strong enough to overpower Superman if they were to fight at maximum strength. Now, Shazam is finally ready to put his powers to the test against a rampaging Kryptonian.
In a preview for Action Comics #1079 by Mark Waid, Clayton Henry, Michael Shelfer, Matt Herms, and Dave Sharpe, the weekly "Phantoms" story reaches a shocking climax as the prisoners of the Phantom Zone are unleashed upon Earth. These rogue Kryptonians are now fueled by a yellow sun, elevating them to Superman's level of power as they cause wanton destruction across the planet.

Tokyo Comic-Con took place over the weekend, and while the event was light on major reveals, an official theatre standee for James Gunn's Superman was spotted as part of a display on the convention floor.
Unfortunately, the poster doesn't feature any new imagery from the movie, only giving us another look at the Kingdom Come-inspired logo. But if this sort of promotional material is beginning to show up in the wild, there's a good chance we'll see a new poster prior to the release of the first trailer.
Still no Eta on the highly-anticipated teaser, but we know it will be released before the end of the year.
Gunn recently confirmed that the Dcu reboot has scheduled some additional pickups. "Not a few days [of additional shooting]. We’re doing a day and a half of pickup shots. No scenes. No reshoots. Just a handful of individual shots to enhance the film.

These budget-minded, digest-sized collections have been a runaway hit with fans, and every offering in the initial wave has gone back for at least a second printing. Marvel Comics has announced a similar publishing initiative, called Marvel Essentials.
The success of the initial batch of Compact Comics has inspired DC to expand the line further, and they will add 15 new titles in 2025. What follows are five of the best DC Compact Comics currently in print, as well as five exciting titles on the horizon.

The Arrowverse achieved great things during its time on television, but sometimes it failed to pull certain storylines off. Not all comic book stories are easy to adapt to live-action due to the almost limitless canvas that comic artists work with. There are limitations to what the medium of film can achieve; budgets are a concern, CGI has limits and actors can only do so much.
Despite having lower budgets than Dceu movies, the Arrowverse shows somehow managed to pull off wild concepts like the Multiverse before it was popular and made it look convincing. The Arrowverse was always brave with the stories it attempted to tell, as evidenced by its attempt at Crisis on Infinite Earths, DC's biggest storyline. Unfortunately, it didn't always stick to the landing.

In the 21st Century, there have been a lot of Supermans that have come and gone. Brandon Routh started out with a promising run, which eventually fizzled out after just one film. Henry Cavill, too, got to flaunt his cape in his one feature-length appearance, before having to work his way into Justice League, and then being completely removed from the role. Smallville stayed the definitive version of the character for quite some time, exploring Clark’s earlier years.

Should The CW ever want to adapt another Superman story, they know just who the guy is, for the job: Tyler Hoechlin. DC Comics has explored its best heroes through a combination of formats and degrees of continuity, from legendary ongoing series to non-canon prestige graphic novels. Under the Elseworlds imprint, a long line of all-star creative teams have been able to go even further than regular stories, casting heroes into past and future settings, as well as blending them with classical literature. From Superman Frankenstein tales to twisted Batman Jekyll & Hyde mysteries, the imprint has no shortage of underrated stories.
The Elseworlds imprint delivered readers some of the company's best stories, with the likes of Kingdom Come still being iconic today. However, where everyone knows about these seminal stories, their success overshadowed some of the other great tales, from graphic novels to miniseries from the line. Beginning in the late 1980s, DC's Elseworlds comics captivated readers as it reimagined classic heroes like Batman, Superman and Green Lantern in fresh and original settings. From a Victorian Dark Knight hunting Jack the Ripper to the Man of Steel being raised by Darkseid, the imprint served as the company's answer to Marvel's What If...? series. Even today, many readers consider stories like Kingdom Come and Gotham by Gaslight to be among the best stories ever told by DC.
While many of the Elseworlds comics took characters to their best potential, others are simply weird, in terms of their treatment of characters, their chosen inspirations and even story style. Ranging from Batman being placed in the world of a famous musical to Superman being reimagined as a Monty Python skit, the imprint never held back. Though the company is best known for its legendary adventures, the strange, odd stories are just as memorable.

James Gunn's Dcu will have Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, The Authority, and Swamp Thing, and another name joining the roster is Krypto, the Superdog. Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Curt Swan, Krytpo first appeared in Adventure Comics #210 in March 1955 in a Superboy story. Ever since the character's introduction, he has been a fan-favorite Superman supporting character. He even led his own animated series, Krypto the Superdog. The character was recently voiced by Dwayne Johnson in DC's League of Super-Pets.
Krypto will now make the leap to live-action, as legendary comic writer Mark Waid has seemingly confirmed. We recently shared a photo of a Superman cast and crew wrap gift featuring the Man of Tomorrow, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor. While not "official" artwork, it was created by someone involved in the movie and is thereby likely a good indication of what we'll see on screen.
Today, we see the rest of the character designs and that means getting a first glimpse at Hawkgirl's wings, Metamorpho, and Eve Teschmacher's colourful pink attire. Also pictured are Jimmy Olsen and The Engineer, two characters we spotted on set.
The fact their costumes match what we saw in those photos all but confirms this artwork is based on official material the crew member has seen while working on Superman.
Anthony Carrigan's Metamorpho was the only Justice League International member we didn't get to see on set, but it's clear James Gunn is sticking to the comic books here.

DC Studios co-ceo and Superman director James Gunn has once again shared a few Dcu updates on his social media accounts. However, the Shazam! Fury of the Gods fans among you may be disappointed.
Asked whether that movie is Dcu canon based on previous comments he's made, Gunn reiterated, "[You] don't need to be confused. It's not canon. I don't know now or then what Harcourt or Economos have to do with the Justice Society."
The filmmaker was never happy about the characters being thrown into projects like Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Black Adam, so we're not exactly shocked he plans to now ignore those scenes.
Gunn was also asked whether Creature Commandos or Superman should be considered an introduction to the new Dcu, prompting him to respond, "I think both of them as individual stories that are a part of an overall universe. They both exist for their own sake.

The people close to Lil Wayne are making it clear they’re not happy with him not being named the Super Bowl Lix halftime show headliner. Nicki Minaj and Birdman both took to X today to air their gripes with the NFL’s (and presumably Jay-Z’s) decision to have Kendrick Lamar headline the February showcase. While they didn’t explicitly name Jay-Z, who has had a hand in producing Super Bowl halftime shows since 2019, it seems pretty apparent what they’re talking about.

The '90s brought changes, defeats, and comebacks for DC heroes - like Batman's fall and rise in "Knightfall" and "Knightsend." The Jsa makes a spectacular return in 1999, a team mix of old and new heroes fighting dark forces, setting up an intrigue-filled series. From "Batman/Dracula: Red Rain" to "Kingdom Come," the '90s showcased iconic DC tales, balancing hero battles with deep thematic explorations.

DC fans have been buzzing about the first look at David Corenswet’s Superman costume for James Gunn’s upcoming reboot. While some praise the return of classic elements like the red trunks, others question if the sleeker suit suits Gunn’s distinct vision for the Man of Steel. According to previous Dceu director Zack Snyder, we’ll have to see it in action to judge its merits.
“Let’s see it in the movie. I’m interested to see how it works as a piece of storytelling,” Snyder told The Hollywood Handle of Corenswet’s suit. His diplomatic response reflects the respect between the filmmakers tasked with interpreting Superman for new audiences. Where Snyder brought a grittier, modern aesthetic, Gunn promises a fresher take inspired by the character’s comic book heritage.
Corenswet’s blue bodysuit directly evokes fan-favorite moments like the iconic Kingdom Come S shield while also nodding to modern influences.
