- Ralph Abernathy: This is about the fifth speech that I have made in Charleston - and every time I have been here, I've been taken to see "historical" sites of this city. I don't want to see any more "historical" sites.
- Ralph Abernathy: Now, I've been to jail. I stayed there for eight days. I ate macaroni and cheese without cheese. I had grits. I had grits for breakfast and for dinner I had leftover grits from breakfast.
- Andrew Young: The only way we can keep this thing goin' - is if we can stay out of downtown - and keep our money in our pockets. All right? Now, stay out there, keep your money in your pockets, hold on to it until the eagle grins.
- Ralph Abernathy: You can learn more in standing up and marching with Local 1199, than you can in any schoolhouse here in Charleston, South Carolina.
- Andrew Young: We fightin' for *all* poor people. And when the hospital workers make a little more money, pretty soon, everybody makes a little more money.
- Coretta Scott King: Hospital workers have been - working full-time jobs at part-time pay. After all, $1.30 an hour is not a wage. It is an insult.
