Why Cal and Merrin's Jedi: Survivor kiss is actually a win for bi representation
Image
Cal Kestis and magic-wielding Nightsister Merrin are probably the only endgame romance Jedi: Survivor players saw coming. They're the only two members of the original crew who wouldn't be a weird, borderline uncomfortable match, and to mildly spoil the game for you, they are -- as the title implies -- miraculous survivors of a fairly dark middle chapter in an expected Star Wars trilogy.

Anyone who read Jedi: Battle Scars in 2023 shortly before the game came out might have been slightly thrown off by Cal and Merrin's kiss toward the end of the game (you don't get to choose it -- it happens in a cutscene). I know I was. Penned by accomplished video game writer Sam Maggs, the book takes place between Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, its sequel. One of the storylines features Merrin diving into a romantic relationship with another woman. The books, as usual, are much...

Jeff Probst Hated One Contestant So Much That He Thought the Show Was ‘Doomed’ When He Won: “The most… Unlikeable person won”
Image
When Survivor first premiered all the way back in 2000, no one could have predicted the cultural phenomenon it would become. That’s right – the show has been going strong for over two decades, and several players have won the Sole Survivor title. Among this list is Richard Hatch, the very first franchise winner.

Many players have stepped onto the island, but only a few could match Hatch – and we’re not talking about it in a good way. He easily ranks as one of the most controversial players the show has seen, something that even Probst would agree with. So much so that after his win, he was almost certain that Survivor was doomed. Let’s dive deeper!

Jeff Probst says Richard Hatch’s Survivor win almost sank the show

Survivor is currently prepping for its milestone Season 50, with several returning players from previous seasons. While the excitement is running high right now,...

Oscar Lusth at an event for Survivor : États-Unis (2000)
What Happened To Ozzy Lusth After Survivor 13, 16, 23, & 34
Oscar Lusth at an event for Survivor : États-Unis (2000)
Arguably the biggest physical threat in Survivor history, Ozzy Lusth is almost too competent for his own good. He excels in a solo situation, like in Survivor: Cook Islands when he was runner-up despite no clear alliances. He can play a strong strategic game and did so in Survivor 23. His showmance with legendary Survivor hero Amanda Kimmel wile in Micronesia for season 16 will never be forgotten. And, he’s grown from a young trailblazing Latino to a four-time competitor with Game Changers season 34. But this is by no means everything there is to know about Ozzy. So, what happened to

Parker Posey Tells Lisa Kudrow to Star in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 4 as They Bond Over Sitcom Struggles and Why Phoebe on ‘Friends’ Was ‘A Lot of Work’
Image
Parker Posey and Lisa Kudrow first met making “Clockwatchers,” a 1997 indie comedy in which they play temps in a dull office. Back then, Posey was establishing a reputation as a burgeoning legend of independent film who would soon enough cross over in projects like “You’ve Got Mail” and “Scream 3,” while Kudrow was already a superstar thanks to her role as the quirky Phoebe Buffay on “Friends.”

Both have experienced cult TV fame in the years since — Posey as Jack’s nemesis on “Will & Grace,” Kudrow as a washed-up actress-turned-reality star on “The Comeback” — and both put their stamp on projects this past season. Posey drawled her way through the role of wealthy matriarch Victoria Ratliff on the HBO franchise “The White Lotus,” while Kudrow delivered a sensitive, painful performance as Lydia Morgan, a grieving mother who believes her late son communicates with her through flickering lights on Netflix...

Queens vs. schemes: Inside unscripted’s Emmy battle royale
Image
In 2024, the races for Best Competition Program and Best Reality Host were completely upended by a Scottish castle full of reality legends. Now for the juicy rematch: Will Peacock’s The Traitors and host Alan Cumming scheme their way to the top again, or will RuPaul's Drag Race and host RuPaul Charles make a fierce Ru-turn to the stage?

Drag Race is a five-time champion for series, while RuPaul has won the host category a record eight times (2016-23). For its recent 17th cycle, dubbed the "splashiest season in herstory," judges RuPaul, Michelle Visage, and cohorts searched for America's next drag superstar. A special twist allowed two lucky queens to stay in the competition, but only if they successfully threw a ball that dropped Visage into a dunk tank.

Onya Nurve won the season and the cash prize of $200,000, while Jewels Sparkles placed second. Both queens had America cheering all season long,...

Big Brother Alums on The Amazing Race Was a Bad Decision for CBS
Image
The Amazing Race producers may have made a huge mistake by featuring at least one Big Brother alum on each team in a new season.

That’s the idea for the upcoming fall season, with CBS planning to air the 90-minute episodes on Wednesday nights after Survivor Season 49 installments.

Former Big Brother houseguests were invited to race around the world with a loved one as their partner, potentially tapping into the fandom that Big Brother has amassed over the years.

(CBS (Highest quality screengrab))

However, one of the biggest problems with Big Brother is that its die-hard fans are often addicted to learning information about the season or the people playing the game.

I thought it could be an excellent opportunity for the shows to crossover, and it has proven a success in the past with Big Brother couples participating in The Amazing Race.

Survivor 50 is already making huge headlines with its epic cast of returning players. But there’s more to the game than what many fans see on television. That’s right – behind the scenes, participants have to follow some really strict rules (some of which sound pretty bizarre).

And what’s even more interesting is that these rules don’t just apply while the players are on the island. Even after they’re voted out or leave the show, they are still under tight restrictions. So, let’s take a look at some of the strangest rules the milestone 50th season players must follow – even after they’re out of the game.

Solo Leveling Was Not America's Most-Streamed Anime Series of the Year
Image
Solo Leveling conquered headlines throughout 2024 with a parade of Crunchyroll records and industry superlatives, but Nielsen's first-ever comprehensive multiplatform ratings -- which track viewing across broadcast, cable and streaming for 35 days post-premiere -- tell a different story about America's actual viewing habits.

The manhwa adaptation, despite dominating streaming with Crunchyroll's highest user ratings and episodes that crashed servers while reaching 100,000 likes in under seven hours, didn't crack the top 100 most-watched series of the 2024-25 season -- and only one anime series made it into the top 100 specifically for adults aged 18-49. Per Variety, Nielsen’s multiplatform ratings revealed the 100 most-watched TV shows of 2024-25 across legal streaming, broadcast and cable viewing in the U.S., with data spanning from Sept. 15, 2024, to April 6, 2025. Notably, the top 100 list excluded several categories of viewing data, including sports, repeat programming, TV specials and any program fewer than four episodes in length, as well as pirated content.

Boston Rob Mariano Declined ‘Survivor 50’ to Give Other Alumni “Another Chance”

Despite what fans might have wanted, Boston Rob Mariano wasn’t interested in joining the cast of Survivor 50.

How ‘The Traitors’ Shook Up Its Own Format in Season 3
Image
When “The Traitors” debuted on Peacock in January 2023, all 10 episodes of Season 1 dropped at the same time. Two years and as many seasons later, the reality-tv competition set in a Scottish Highlands castle has become weekly appointment television for fans who helped January’s Season 3 premiere become the No. 1 unscripted series in the country. And it’s a three-time Emmy winner to boot. Season 2 toppled reigning champ “RuPaul’s Drag Race” to win Outstanding Reality Competition and host Alan Cumming bested RuPaul, who dominated the Outstanding Reality Host category for eight consecutive years. (It also won for casting.)

“It was mind-blowing to be recognized, honestly,” executive producer Sam Rees-Jones said. “We know we are a baby within the genre, so we were just blown away. ‘The Traitors’ dominates Critics Choice Real TV Awards with 3 wins: Next stop, Emmys
Image
The Critics Choice Association has announced the winners for its seventh annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, and it's great news for The Traitors.

Peacock's murder-mystery program walked off with a leading three awards: Best Competition Series, Best Ensemble Cast in an Unscripted Series, and Best Show Host for Alan Cumming. Note that these trophies come for Season 3, which is eligible at the upcoming 2025 Emmys. Last year, Season 2 of The Traitors won a pair of Emmys for series and host, and is the frontrunner to repeat.

The Critics Choice Real TV Awards recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted, and reality programming across broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms. Voting is conducted by a blue-ribbon nominating committee made up of Cca members with expertise in the genre. Meanwhile, there are two fan-voted categories: Male and Female Star of the Year, which were awarded respectively to Stephen Nedoroscik (Dancing With the Stars) and Sandra Lee (Dr.

‘The Last of Us’ Goes Out on Top, Holds Off Netflix Hit ‘Sirens’ at No. 1 on Weekly Streaming Chart
Image
Week after week, we’ve covered how HBO / Max’s “The Last of Us” has fought off big-budget rivals to stay firmly in first throughout its season. Time will tell if it follows “The White Lotus” with another number one ranking in the week after its finale.

However, two other platforms have found lasting series success in this window, Hulu with the sixth season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” and Apple TV+ with “Your Friends & Neighbors.” Both series have volleyed against Netflix entrants week after week, but have demonstrated their lasting fandom as they keep their hold in the Top 10. The penultimate episode of “The Handmaid’s Tale” is seventh this week and celebrates its seventh consecutive week in the Top 10.

While “Handmaids” built a dedicated fanbase over the last five seasons, Apple TV+’s “Your Friends & Neighbors,” led by Jon Hamm, has impressively captured and sustained audiences with this debut season.

‘Jeopardy!’ Star Juveria Zaheer Reacts to Brother Omar Not Getting Chosen for ‘Survivor’ 50
Image
Amid Juveria Zaheer‘s run on Jeopardy! Masters, the cast list for Season 50 of Survivor was officially released, featuring contestants who have all played the game before. That meant there was an opportunity for Juveria’s brother, Omar Zaheer, to return to the beach in Fiji for another shot at $1 million. Although fans were hoping Omar would get selected in the casting process, he was ultimately not chosen as one of the 24 castaways for Season 50, and Juveria reacted to the news on X. “Would have loved to have seen the little bro cause chaos on the beach again!” she wrote. Omar last played Survivor during Season 42 in 2022. He finished the game in sixth place and became a fan-favorite contestant. At final tribal council, he casted one of the seven votes for winner Maryanne Oketch, who beat Mike Turner and Romeo Escobar in a 7-1-0 vote (Turner received one vote from Jonathan Young,...

Survivor: Season 50; CBS' Jeff Probst Reveals Returning Players for Spring 2026
Survivor’s 50th season will air next spring on CBS, and fans now know what cast members are returning for the special season. Jeff Probst announced the 24 returning cast members on CBS Mornings earlier this week.

Find out who is returning below.

“Survivor 50 will push the series into uncharted territory and impact the players like never before. For the first time ever, the game is “In the Hands of the Fans”! Earlier this year, fans voted on key elements of the game, including “Idols or No Idols,” “Final Four Fire Making: Keep It or Lose It” and “Live Finale and Reunion Show in L.A. – or Keep the Winner Reveal and Aftershow in the Jungles of Fiji.” The players won’t know what the fans voted for until they are competing on the island.

100 Most-Watched TV Series of 2024-25 Across Streaming, Broadcast and Cable: ‘Squid Game’ Leads This Season’s Rankers
Image
It’s become a bit of a cliché to say “broadcast’s back,” since, of course, it never really left. Just ask the fans of “NCIS,” “Law & Order: Svu” or “Grey’s Anatomy,” shows that have been on the air for decades — and launched when Netflix was only known for mailing DVDs to your house.

But there’s also some truth to this year’s network TV rebirth. This was a strong season for the traditional linear outlets — two of the most-watched new shows, period, were ABC’s “High Potential” and CBS’ “Matlock.” And the third-most-watched program overall was the Eye’s “Tracker,” beaten only by Netflix phenomena “Squid Game” and “Adolescence.”

We know all of this because Nielsen’s multiplatform ratings are finally here, and for the first time since the dawn of the streaming revolution, we can see apples-to-apples comparisons of how shows across the TV landscape are doing.

Yellowstone: How Beth Dutton Became The Show’s Fiercest Weapon & One Of The Most Dangerous Women On TV
Image
Beth Dutton Shattered Molds Both In Yellowstone & On TV!(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Right from the start, Yellowstone made it clear that Beth Dutton was no ordinary TV character. Fierce, unpredictable, and unapologetically ruthless, she was the wild card in the Dutton family deck. While her brothers mostly tried to stay in their father John Dutton’s good graces, Beth did things her way. This earned her both fierce admirers and sharp critics, but one thing was certain: she was a force nobody could ignore.

Kelly Reilly, who brought Beth to life, once confessed how complex the role was. She said (via THR), “It’s hard to explain Beth or sum her up. I could talk about her for hours. She’s probably the most fascinating character I’ve ever played.” That fascination wasn’t just Reilly’s alone. Fans were hooked on Beth’s sharp wit, brutal honesty, and unshakable...

Our super early ‘Survivor 50’ predictions: Mike White is ‘going home first,’ and Kamilla Karthigesu is the ‘underdog’ that can win it all
Image
Welcome to Reality Derby, Gold Derby's weekly deep dive into all things reality TV, hosted by senior editors Marcus James Dixon and Denton Davidson.

In this episode: the highly anticipated Survivor 50 cast reveal, which includes 12 "old school" players and 12 "new school" contestants. (See the full cast list.) While Dixon and Davidson disagree over who they think will ultimately become the 50th "Sole Survivor," they're in sync with who might be voted out first: Mike White.

"He's going home first," Davidson predicts. "No one's going to give him a million dollars! The only reason they'd want to keep him around is to become his best friend so they're on the next season of The White Lotus." White won three Emmys for producing, writing, and directing the HBO series, which is partially inspired by the exotic atmosphere and the rotating cast of Survivor.

The filmmaker has brought on five of his former...
