Bordov Sr. accepts missing son's fate
MOSCOW -- Los Angeles-based Russian film director Sergei Bordov Sr., whose actor-director son Sergei Jr is missing following an avalanche, said Monday that he understood that "there is no longer any chance of finding my son alive." Bodrov Sr., who six years ago made Prisoner of the Caucasus -- in which his son played a Russian soldier captured by Chechen rebels -- spoke to a leading Russian newspaper Monday. Although no formal announcement had been made late Monday, his comments reflect the widespread belief that 30-year old Sergei Jr. and the 48 members of his crew are dead. They were filming scenes for his second movie The Messenger when the avalanche hit on Sept. 20 in the mountains of North Ossetia. Russian television Saturday and Sunday broadcast retrospectives of the missing actor and director's movies to mark the first week since the avalanche. The website of CTB, the St Petersburg-based production company that made Bodrov's most popular films Brother and Brother 2, now lists the names of all those "missing without trace."...

Hopes for missing Russian actor Bodrov fade
MOSCOW -- Russia's film industry and movie fans across the country prepared for the worst Wednesday five days after top screen heartthrob, actor and director Sergei Bodrov Jr. went missing in an avalanche while filming in the Caucasian mountains. Bodrov, 30, the star of Russian cult hits Brother and Brother 2, has been missing, presumed dead, since the avalanche of ice, rock and mud, hit late last Friday. More than 100 people, including 46 members of Bodrov's crew, were missing after unusually warm weather caused part of a glacier to break away, triggering a terrifying 60 m.p.h. avalanche high above the village of Genal in the Karmadon Gorge in the southern Russian republic of Northern Ossetia. One 65-year-old man was found alive but by Wednesday further work was deemed useless. Emergency workers had recovered seven bodies but no trace has been found of the filmmakers. Rescue workers said the sheer amount of ice and rock prevented further efforts. Bodrov was in the Caucasus to shoot a short scene from his latest film, Svyaznoi (The Messenger), about a girl drug dealer and the three men who love her.
