The Line (2023)
Sadboy: Elegiac Stylings in ‘The Line’
The Line (2023)
In his Ama on r/movies, director and co-writer Ethan Berger gamely answered a couple dozen thirsting filmmakers about how he got his script for “The Line” (2023) produced. This is the part where I tell you what he said. And, I must warn you. If you are a filmmaker who wants something produced, you may be disappointed. We always are. We are disappointed because Ethan Berger wrote, in far more humble terms, what they always write: that the actors loved the script.

So, I went into this viewing, of a screener on my television, knowing this. Oh, brother. We got a big great script coming up. Arms folded, on the attack. Thinks he’s Schrader, over here… Well, the script is fabulous. The cast, including Alex Wolff, Austin Abrams, and Halle Bailey, burst off the screen. Suitably ravenous. Outside of the obsessively designed world of Ari Aster’s “Hereditary,” Mr.

American Psycho (2000) – Wtf Happened to This Adaptation?
Image
The American Psycho episode of Wtf Happened to This Adaptation? was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. Here is the text of Hatfield’s script:

Horror can take many forms and its high time we talked about something firmly in the psychological realm. Author Brett Easton Ellis is known to broach subjects that are uncomfortable or outright horrifying, but it is with his 3rd book that he went for the throat so to speak and tackle a more traditional genre topic in a thoroughly nontraditional way. American Psycho was quite controversial upon its release in 1991 and the film based on it in 2000 (watch it Here) was divisive then and it’s divisive now.

Take a look at the craftsmanship on that card as we find out what the f*ck happened to this adaptation.

HBO Is Developing Bret Easton Ellis’ Gruesome Mess ‘The Shards’ — Can This Possibly Work?
Image
Bret Easton Ellis’ latest novel “The Shards” goes where only Bret Easton Ellis could possibly go: back to 1981 Los Angeles with a 600-page book, largely unedited, that’s mostly about himself.

That’s partly because the main character is named Bret, a nihilistic, 17-year-old, bisexual San Fernando Valley trust-fund prep-school brat who’s writing a book called “Less Than Zero.” Yes, this is literary-horror autofiction from the author of that aforementioned 1985 debut and shocking postmodern novels like “American Psycho.”

“The Shards” is also a more-or-less direct transcript of the Patreon serial Ellis launched in late 2020, and its unwieldiness means it’s well-matched for a long-form, flashy series adaptation at HBO. As IndieWire has confirmed, “The Shards” is now being set up at the premium cabler with Ellis as the sole writer while executive producing with Nick Hall (Emmy-winning executive producer on “The White Lotus”) and Brian Young (an executive producer...

‘I Have No Reason to Make This Up!,’ Marilyn Manson Accuser Tells Evan Rachel Wood in New Legal Doc
Image
Evan Rachel Wood is refuting a Marilyn Manson accuser’s claim that Wood “manipulated” her into making false allegations against the musician in 2020 by saying the accuser had reached out to Wood first the previous year. In a new legal declaration, the actress provided screenshots of Instagram comments dating back to 2019, along with reported text messages, DMs, and voicemails from the last three years she says proves Smithline lied in a recent legal filing on behalf of the rocker.

In Monday’s filing, obtained by Rolling Stone, Wood denied ever...

Berlinale Series Market Unveils 2020 Selection
The BBC and Tvnz’s adaptation of Man Booker Prize winning novel “The Luminaries,” starring Eva Green, is among the scripted TV projects that will feature in this year’s Berlinale Series Market and Conference program at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Set during the 1860s gold rush in New Zealand, the Working Title and Southern Light Films-produced “The Luminaries” is based on Eleanor Catton’s prize-winning novel of the same name. FremantleMedia handles international sales.

“The Luminaries” is one of several ‘strong’ Australian and New Zealand series screening at the market, according to Berlinale Series Market and Conference co-ordinator Katharina Böndel.

Böndel added that the line-up has a focus this year on shows with strong female leads or that are about minority groups or indigenous characters.

They include the second series of atmospheric outback crime drama “Mystery Road,” sold by All3Media International, which will also world premiere at the festival itself.

Let's Pour Some Out for the Stars Who Never Were
Every few years, the corporate Hollywood "they" busts their collective ass to make someone Happen. Sometimes this works and that is how stars are created. Sometimes it doesn't and we have human "Where Are They Now?" billboards wandering around. And, at times, this is fairly tragic, particularly since it happens predominately to females. Not that actors are immune to the fame machine (sorry about how life's turned out, Paul Walker) but they don't usually get the hard push followed by the harder drop of the hands that force fed you running for the next blonde on the block.

To these ladies who've been chewed up and spit out and then left on the sidewalk to become one with the pavement, I salute you.

5. Leelee Sobieski

Things looked big for Leelz. Then, somewhere after The Glass House and Max, and amidst rumors she was dating John Cusack, things just kind of stopped.

Tori Amos takes 'Sin' on the road
Tori Amos kicks off her "Sinful Attraction" tour July 10 in Seattle. The 7-week outing supports her new album, "Abnormally Attracted to Sin," which comes out next Tuesday (19). Amos's shows often veer into performance art as she takes on different characters as she performs. For example, to tour behind her last album, "American Doll Posse," she assumed the various female personas she portrayed on the album.  For "Sinful Attraction," we bet she incorporates footage from the DVD that accompanies "Abnormally Attracted to Sin," which visualizes the songs as vignettes.   Tour Dates:07/10: Seattle, Wa @ WaMu Theater07/11: Portland, Or @...
