Pinkvilla has managed to whip up a minor stir by declaring that Mahesh Manjrekar and Sanjay Dutt are reuniting for a sequel to the 1999 gangster drama Vaastav: The Reality, which is still very much alive and ticking in the public’s mind. Since its release, scores and scores of underworld sagas have dripped their sanguinary violence on screen. But none with the same untameable intensity as Vaastav.
In fact a very poor sequel titled Hathyar: Face To Face With Reality was released in 2002. The sequel was so poorly executed and received that everybody connected to it has conveniently forgotten it.
This is where the “news” of a “sequel” to Vaastav comes in. It is nothing but a marketing gimmick to generate interest in project that has long crossed the line of revival.
Namrata Shirodkar who starred in both Vaastav and its sequel Hathyar expresses surprise at talk of a sequel.

The Power streaming on ZeePlex from January 14 2021, starring Vidyut Jammwal, Shruti Haasan, Mahesh V Manjrekar, Prateik Babbar and Jisshu Sengupta, critic movie review is here…
The Power Movie Review
The Power - What could have been an interesting saga of love family and morality under the directorship of Mahesh V Manjrekar who has proven his mettle in the gangster genre with Vaastav: The Reality (1999). And as a filmmaker with repute in general with Astitva (2000), Kurukshetra (2000), Kaksparsh (2012), Natsamrat (2016), Bhai: Vyakti Ki Valli (2019) turns into a tedious, uninspiring mess of an attempt to be the new version of ‘The Godfather’.
Kalidas Thakur (Mahesh V Manjrekar) rules Mumbai. When attacked his younger son, Devidas (Vidyut Jammwal) takes over his enemies but the decision brings turmoil in his relationship with his lover Pari (Shruti Haasan) daughter of Kalidas’ most trusted ally played by Zakir Hussain.

Over the years, actor - director Mahesh Manjrekar has given us some memorable films like Vaastav: The Reality (1999), Astitva (2000) and Viruddh... Family Comes First (2005), among others. Now, after a series of acting assignments, Mahesh Manjrekar is set to don the director's hat again. In fact we hear that Manjrekar will direct a project that will be produced by film-maker Sanjay Gupta. "Sanjay and Mahesh are doing a film together. It's an action thriller. As they know each other for over 15 years, their sensibilities match superbly. Sanjay is confident that Mahesh is the best person to helm his next production," says an insider. Apparently, the yet-untitled film will have a 'huge ensemble cast', comprising 20-25 actors. "Sanjay is planning to erect a huge set at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad for the film," adds the source. When contacted, Sanjay, who is currently working on a film featuring Hrithik Roshan, says, "Mahesh is like a family member.
