Brat Pack Actors Ranked By Highest Rated Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
The Hulu documentary Brats reunites the iconic Brat Pack stars to discuss their careers in the '80s and beyond. The Brat Pack, coined by David Blum, faced challenges and success as they transitioned to adult acting roles. Members like Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, and Demi Moore continue to impact pop culture today.

The 2024 Hulu documentary Brats brings the story of the iconic Brat Pack to a new generation, but who was the most successful Brat Pack member? The Brat Pack characterizes a group of young actors from the '80s who appeared in several coming-of-age teen movies throughout that decade. There are core members, including Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy, as well as others that many believe belong in the "club" as well.

David Blum coined the name in New York Magazine as a take on the Rat Pack.

Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse in Cardinal (2017)
Quebec’s Datsit Sphere Buys Kew Media’s ‘Cardinal’ Producer Sienna Films (Exclusive)
Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse in Cardinal (2017)
French Canadian producer-distributor Datsit Sphere has made its second acquisition of a Kew Media Group business, swooping in to buy “Cardinal” producer Sienna Films from the embattled production group.

The Montreal and Toronto-based Datsit Sphere, which previously acquired Bgm, picked up Jennifer Kawaja and Julia Sereny’s Sienna Films in a bid to expand its global-facing drama.

Datsit Sphere spans multiple genres and its portfolio includes theatrical scripted producer Go Films, Montreal based 2D animation specialist Oasis Animation and international sales agency Wazabi Films.

Meanwhile, Toronto-based Sienna makes Billy Campbell-fronted crime drama “Cardinal,” which airs on CTV in Canada, Hulu in the U.S. and BBC Four in the U.K. Other TV credits include “Ransom” for CBS and Corus and the forthcoming “Trickster” for CBC and Aptn, the indigenous supernatural-inspired drama series based on the bestselling “Son of A Trickster” trilogy by Eden Robinson.

The firm’s feature...

The Imaginary Documentaries of Montreal Filmmakers Frank Vitale, Allan Moyle, and Stephen Lack
The Bitter Ash

A rather precious thing happened in Montreal in the mid 1970s. Canadian cinema had been dominated by the National Film Board since its formation in 1940, and the generally-perceived character of Canadian film was all educational documentary, and not a lot of fun. Directors such as Claude Jutra, Don Owen, and Gilles Groulx struck off on their own to make the first Canadian new wave fiction films (A tout prendre [1963], Nobody Waved Goodbye, and Le chat dans le sac [both 1964] respectively), on the back of independents like Sydney J. Furie’s groundbreaking A Dangerous Age (1959) and Larry Kent’s student feature The Bitter Ash (1963), but for all their youthful, semi-bohemian trappings, these were still quite po-faced affairs. Then came the “genial loser” films of the 70s, led by Owen’s Goin’ Down The Road (1970), and others such as The Rowdyman (Peter Carter, 1972) and Paperback Hero (Peter Pearson, 1973), for the...

Best Canadian Movies of 2014: Films and Moments That Ruled the Big Screen
Canada has a wealth of cinematic talent, and always has. From our comedic genius to our often cerebral approach to filmmaking, this country has a lot to be proud of.

Of late, and especially this year, Canada has really dominated the movies landscape. Our homegrown actors (Sarah Gadon, for example) and directors (Xavier Dolan, "Mommy") have been everywhere, earning accolades around the world. Movies shot within our borders have won rave reviews and received praise from the highest-ranked critics and film festivals.

Perhaps most outstanding is our growth. No longer are we satisfied with melancholic snow landscapes (though sometimes those still appear); we've branched out, and we're trying new things. Here, in no particular order, are my favourite Canadian movies and moments of 2014.

"Mommy" Knocked Our Socks Off

Young Canadian director Xavier Dolan has been getting accolades from critics, pundits and moviegoers from a very young age, so it's no...

UK Trailer and Quad Poster for The Grand Seduction with Brendan Gleeson & Taylor Kitsch
Returning behind the camera for the first time in almost a decade, Don McKellar took The Grand Seduction to Tiff last year, where it was received with warm reviews.

Led by Brendan Gleeson and Taylor Kitsch, the comedy will be released in the UK and Ireland at the tail-end of the summer, and eOne has now launched the trailer for our shores, along with the UK quad poster.

Brendan Gleeson is Murray, a once proud fisherman who now, along with his former colleagues in the harbour of Tickle Head are out of work and forced to live off welfare. Prohibited from fishing enough to make a living and the community spirit having faded a long time ago, the Mayor comes up with a dazzling plan – a giant corporation need a location to build a factory and Tickle Head could be just the right place. But there’s just one problem – in order to qualify,...

'Covert Affairs': Liane Balaban on playing Auggie's ex, a Russian hacker
In the duplicitous world of "Covert Affairs," one's ex is never merely an ex.

Auggie Anderson's (Christopher Gorham) former girlfriend Natasha Petrovna, played by Canadian actress Liane Balaban, isn't just a disgruntled old flame, but a notorious hacker whose cyber attack on Washington catches the attention of the CIA on Tuesday's (Aug. 24) episode "Communication Breakdown."

The combination of beauty and tech savvy is a lethal combination for lady-magnet Auggie, who seems to have never quite gotten over Natasha, who would fit into his line of work if she weren't so anarchic.

"In the script Natasha's described as 'chaos in a bottle,'" Balaban tells Zap2it. "She's headstrong and impulsive, but also a woman with deeply held beliefs about what's right and wrong. She is courageous, someone who speaks truth to power."

Auggie and Natasha reconnect and -- as expected when emotions are involved -- it's not all just business.
