Bryan Cranston Vows to Not Complete New Film Until Cast & Crew Are Paid
Image
When you work, you're supposed to get paid. As simple as that sentence is, in the movie business, sometimes things happen that make being paid a stressful challenge. Usually, those hardships fall onto the lesser-known cast members and crew members who work long, tiresome hours to bring a production to an audience. The stars of a project work hard too, but they're usually paid, and most times don't have to worry about when their checks are coming. This is why it's imperative for those in higher positions to stand by their fellow cast and crew members, just like Bryan Cranston. The actor is starring in an indie film, Lone Wolf, that has had a few financial setbacks, and he's speaking out about the situation.

Cranston has spent decades building a resume full of credits that span all areas, including television, movies, music videos, theater, and more. His ability to be...

Glenn Howerton Caught A Canon-Breaking Moment In It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia's Abbott Elementary Crossover
Image
The second half of the "Abbott Elementary"/"Always Sunny" crossover event is a lot of fun, but it almost had a moment that would've disappointed the more serious members of the fanbase. As Glenn Howerton (a co-creator of the show who plays Dennis) explained at a recent panel attended by /Film's own Bj Colangelo, the new episode nearly featured a moment that contradicted an established bit of "Always Sunny" canon.

"I caught something that doesn't make sense based on season 16," Howerton explained. "We don't know that Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were in a show called 'Breaking Bad.' We refer to them as Malcolm in the Middle. And then [in this new episode], I'm [saying], 'Making the call I'm like f***ing Walter White over here."

The canon Howerton's referring to is laid out in "Celebrity Booze: The Ultimate Cash Grab." There, the gang tries to befriend Cranston and Paul, repeatedly referring to...

After Everybody Loves Raymond, Patricia Heaton Starred In This Underrated Sitcom Series
Image
If you were as big a fan of Linwood Boomer's "Malcolm in the Middle" — the family sitcom that was recently renewed for a revival — as I was when I was growing up, you certainly felt the gap the show left behind when it ended in 2006. There were a lot of great sitcoms in the mid and late aughts, but very few managed to capture that family-centred narrative and silly vibe that "Malcolm" almost singularly represented. For me, the one that came closest was Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline's "The Middle." The series stars the wonderful "Everybody Loves Raymond's" Patricia Heaton, "Scrubs'" Neil Flynn, and three child/teen actors who were just getting their feet wet in the huge pond of American television.

"The Middle," which ran on ABC from 2009 to 2018 for 9 seasons, followed the everyday lives of the Hecks, a barely middle-class family in the fictional town of Orson,...

Bryan Cranston's Iconic 25-Year-Old Sitcom Is Killing It On Global Streaming Charts Ahead Of Disney+ Revival
Image
Bryan Cranston has become one of the most popular working actors today. Kicking off his career in the '80s, he primarily worked on shows in guest-starring roles. One of his most significant jobs was appearing the The X-Files season 6, episode 2, "Drive," where he would gain the attention of writer Vince Gilligan. Gilligan would go on to create Breaking Bad, where Cranston starred in his most notable role as Walter White. Cranston continues to star in dramatic roles, but he was established as a comedic actor first.

One of Cranston's most recognizable early characters was the dentist Tim Whatley in Seinfeld for 5 episodes in the latter half of the series. The performance was funny enough to keep bringing the character back, including the iconic moment where Cranston improvised a scene where Whatley takes a hit of nitrous oxide before giving it to Jerry. Being a recurring character on arguably the...

I Was the Guy Kicked Off ‘Taxi’ After the First Season
Image
The moment John Burns stepped through the doors of the Sunshine Cab Company, his days were numbered. Things seemed good at the start; in the very first episode of Taxi, Burns, a country bumpkin who had just arrived in the big city, almost immediately got a job as a cabbie. But it was all downhill from there.

Throughout Season One, Burns appeared less and less, and in some episodes, he barely spoke at all. There were only two episodes that saw him lead the story: one in which he gets married to a woman he just met, and another focused around a dinner party with him, his new wife, Alex Reiger (Judd Hirsch) and Latka Gravas (Andy Kaufman). Beyond that, he was usually stuck playing seventh fiddle in a cast of seven.

It was little wonder then that when Taxi returned for Season Two, Burns was gone, never to be mentioned again.

After years of talk and speculation, the Malcolm in the Middle revival is finally happening, and it now has a title. According to a report from insider Daniel Richtman, the upcoming miniseries will be called Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair.

Bryan Cranston has been pushing for a reunion since 2016. By 2021, Frankie Muniz shared in an interview with Steve-o that Cranston had even started writing a script, and most of the original cast was open to returning — except for one unnamed holdout.

Production started in Vancouver on April 13, 2025, and wrapped up on May 16. Cinematographer Michael Weaver was behind the camera. The show is expected to premiere in December 2025.

‘Real Time’: Bill Maher Blames Dems’ Election Loss & Andrew Tate’s Rise On TV’s “Endless Parade Of Eye-Roll, Short-Bus Dads”
Image
As Bill Maher wrapped up his 700th episode of Real Time, he got on his soapbox to mourn the supposed loss of masculinity in media.

During Friday’s ‘New Rules’ segment, the comedian launched into a rant about manhood and blamed film and television’s “endless parade of eye-roll, short-bus dads” for Democrats losing the election.

“Let’s make the Father’s Day we just celebrated the last one that takes place in a culture where dads have become such punching bags, literally the last demographic group that TV, ads and movies can still depict as clueless, useless dipshits, basically just another child mom has to look after,” he launched into his sermon.

He blamed the 1987 comedy Three Men and a Baby for the decline of masculinity in culture, and want as far as to link sitcoms like Married with Children, The Simpsons, Modern Family and Malcolm in the Middle,...

Malcolm in the Middle: Cranston tried – and failed – to get Erik Per Sullivan back as Dewey
Erik Per Sullivan at an event for Cody Banks : Agent secret (2003)
After all these years, it may as well have been Erik Per Sullivan saying, You’re not the boss of me now! While the Malcolm in the Middle revival has wrapped filming and is headed to Disney+ towards the end of the year, the big question was: Where’s Dewey? Out of the spotlight for decades, Erik Per Sullivan is the sole core cast member not returning to Malcolm in the Middle; but it wasn’t for a lack of trying on the part of TV dad Bryan Cranston.

Bryan Cranston took back to his paternal duties quite easily when he told Erik Per Sullivan that not only was Malcolm in the Middle returning but he couldn’t wait to join him in front of the camera again. “I talked to Erik and I said, ‘Hey, we got the show! It’s going to come back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, that’s fantastic!

The Real Reason Erik Per Sullivan Didn't Return For The Malcolm In The Middle Revival
Image
"Life is unfair," at least according to They Might Be Giants' catchy theme song for "Malcolm in the Middle." Those words rang true when the series premiered 25 years ago and went on a seven-season run that followed the titular high Iq genius Malcolm as he tried (and often failed) to deal with his chaotic family. "Malcolm in the Middle" distinguished itself from other sitcoms with its incredible sense of humor while still remaining grounded in the reality of the family's economic difficulties. It was also a rare single camera comedy shot without a laugh track or in-studio audience, lending a further sense of reality to the more manufactured and artificial sitcoms it was competing against.

In the show's perfect series finale, Malcolm discovers that his mom Lois believes he is destined to become President of the United States, but only if he has to suffer and struggle to rise out...

Cranston played the hilarious Hal in the sitcom Malcolm in the Middle.

While Cranston is now the biggest star to come out from the series, his role was reportedly quite limited before he came in to audition. While barely given any lines, Cranston reportedly performed the scene to such unique perfection that the showrunner fell off the chair laughing. “Would you be more comfortable in sweatpants?”: Bryan Cranston Refused Vince Gilligan’s Request to Change His Tighty-Whities in Iconic Breaking Bad Scene
Image
Bryan Cranston is best known for his performance as Walter White in the critically acclaimed crime-drama series Breaking Bad. Created by Vince Gilligan, the series was arguably the best product of cable television’s golden age in the late 2000s.

The show’s pilot episode introduced Cranston as the cancer-stricken chemistry professor, making drugs to support his family. However, the episode also features a scene with Cranston in tighty-whities. While the scene is iconic now, Gilligan had second thoughts about it until Cranston convinced him to go ahead with it. Here is how the iconic Breaking Bad scene came to be.

Bryan Cranston reveals why Dewey was recast in Malcolm in the Middle revival
Image
When Malcolm in the Middle returns with its upcoming four-episode revival series on Disney+ very soon, one of the original characters is going to look a little bit different. Earlier this year before filming kicked off, the revival series rounded out its cast with returning cast members and newcomers joining the series, but the beloved 2000s sitcom's biggest scene stealer won't be back.

The rest of Malcolm's family returns, including Justin Berfirled as Reese and Christopher Masterson as Francis. However, Erik Per Sullivan isn't reprising his role as Dewey in the Malcolm in the Middle revival, which arrives 25 years after the sitcom first premiered on Fox. Instead, the role of Dewey will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark this time around. Finally, we learned the real reason why.

‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Actor Erik Per Sullivan Is Going to Harvard Instead of Returning as Dewey for Revival, Says Bryan Cranston
Image
The “Malcolm in the Middle” revival series will see Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield reprising their roles as the Wilkerson family — but Erik Per Sullivan will not be returning as Dewey, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark instead recast as the character. After starring in the original Fox series from 2000 to 2006, Sullivan stepped away from acting in 2010, at the age of 19. For that reason, “Malcolm” fans weren’t entirely surprised that he wouldn’t be joining for new episodes. However, that retirement doesn’t mean that Sullivan wasn’t invited, says Cranston.

“I talked to Erik and I said, ‘Hey, we got the show! It’s going to come back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, that’s fantastic!’ And I go, ‘Yeah, so we’re looking forward to having you back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, no, no, I don’t want to do it. But it’s fantastic,'” Cranston said,...

‘Malcolm In The Middle’s Bryan Cranston Explains Why Erik Per Sullivan Was “Not Into” Returning
Image
Although Frankie Muniz‘s titular pubescent in Malcolm in the Middle was the genius of the family, it was the youngest who went Ivy League in real life.

After wrapping on the reboot last month, Bryan Cranston revealed why Erik Per Sullivan was “the only one who didn’t come back” to reprise his role as youngest son Dewey, the character he originated on the 2000-’06 Fox sitcom.

“It’s amazing how these boys who were my boys on that show are now around the same age I was when we first started, and they’ve got children of their own,” said Cranston on the Fly on the Wall podcast.

In addition to Cranston and Muniz’s return as dad Hal and middle child Malcolm, Jane Kaczmarek was confirmed to return as mom Lois in December. In March, the family was rounded out with Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield reprising...

Bryan Cranston Explains Why Erik Per Sullivan Didn’t Return for Disney+ ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Sequel

Dewey is now in the middle — of the conversation surrounding the Malcolm in the Middle sequel series.

Erik Per Sullivan, who starred as Dewey in the early-2000s fox sitcom, is the lone original-series star that will not return to the Disney+ revival. On Wednesday, Bryan Cranston, who played the hapless dad Hal on the sitcom, explained why.

Bryan Cranston Explains Erik Per Sullivan's Absence from 'Malcolm in the Middle' Revival
Image
Much of the original cast of Malcolm in the Middle is set to grace our TV screens once again this year in the revival for Disney+, but noticeably absent is Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed Dewey in the original series. He’s been recast to be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark (Wynonna Earp), and now we know the real reason why Sullivan turned down the revival thanks to star Bryan Cranston, who says it wasn’t for lack of trying.

Recently, he called it a "rewarding" experience, but elaborated further on the podcast to add: "It's amazing how these boys who were my boys on that show are now around the same...

Why Malcolm In The Middle's Biggest Missing Og Star Isn't Returning For The Revival Revealed By Bryan Cranston
Image
One of the main cast members of Malcolm in the Middle isn't returning for the upcoming revival series, and Bryan Cranston (Hal) recently revealed why. Almost the entire cast of Malcolm in the Middle is returning for the recently announced Malcolm in the Middle revival series. The revival will focus on the same family almost two decades after the ending of Malcolm in the Middle, as Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) and his brothers return for their parents' wedding anniversary. Not all the brothers are coming back, though, and Bryan Cranston has shared some insight into why that is.

While speaking on Dana Carvey and David Spade's podcast "Fly on the Wall," Bryan Cranston revealed why Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey in Malcolm in the Middle, won't appear in the upcoming revival.

'Malcolm in the Middle's Bryan Cranston Reveals Why This Original Cast Member Is Missing From Reboot

Nearly two decades after Malcolm in the Middle signed off, the dysfunctional Wilkerson family is coming back together — but one key member will be missing. In a new interview on the Fly on the Wall podcast, Bryan Cranston opened up about the upcoming Disney+ revival and why Erik Per Sullivan, who played youngest brother Dewey, won’t be reprising his role.

Cranston, who played chaotic patriarch Hal in the Emmy-winning comedy, told hosts Dana Carvey and David Spade that reuniting with the original cast has been a joy — but also bittersweet.

“It’s amazing how these boys who were my boys on that show are now around the same age I was when we first started, and they’ve got children of their own,” he said. But when asked specifically about Sullivan, Cranston revealed the real reason behind his absence, and it's pretty fair.

The stunning Bryan Cranston, who has left audiences of pretty much all age groups baffled with his exceptional performances, is currently standing tall and proud of something other than his own masterpieces: His daughter, Taylor Dearder, who is currently riding high on the tides of success through her splendid work in The Pitt.

A 32-year-old actress who has earned some fairly praiseworthy credits under her name, Dearden is the Breaking Bad star’s daughter, and her performance in the recently concluded critically acclaimed medical drama TV series is being widely applauded. And Cranston, for one, couldn’t feel happier and prouder of his daughter’s success.

Bryan Cranston Wore the Creator of ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Down Until He Agreed to Write a Reboot
Image
It sure seems as though most sitcom reboots were only spawned because corporate executives realized that exploiting the public’s nostalgia is a great way to maximize profits without having to go to the trouble of coming up with a fresh idea. How else do you explain recent soul-draining efforts like Girl Meets World and Fuller House?

Sometimes, it’s the stars of the original shows who are desperate to revisit their past TV glory. For example, Kelsey Grammer was instrumental in getting the Frasier revival made after years of struggling to launch shows about characters not named “Frasier Crane.”

So is the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle reboot just another nostalgia-baiting cash-grab? Seemingly, no. In fact, the person spearheading the new show is the one guy whose career blew up the most after the original series went off the air: Bryan Cranston.

After Malcolm wrapped, Cranston, who of course played the Wilkerson family patriarch,...

Malcolm In The Middle Reboot: Everything We Know So Far
Image
The reruns of Fox's "Malcolm in the Middle" practically served as my favorite type of procrastination when I was in college well over 15 years ago. Between studying sessions, I quickly fell in love with Linwood Boomer's sitcom, which was about four horrendously naughty and mischievous brothers — Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), Reese (Justin Berfield), Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan), and Francis (Christopher Masterson) — and their quirky and often wild parents, Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois Wilkerson (Jane Kaczmarek).

Although the show may have seemed like your typical silly and innocent family comedy from the aughts, its writers and actors constantly pushed the series' brilliant and witty humor to the limits of its TV-pg 12 rating. There was endless bullying, emotional manipulation, unorthodox parenting, family dysfunction, and a whiff of violence along with other atrocities in every other episode. I think it's fair to say the series was ahead of its time, as far...

Real Reason Malcolm in the Middle Nearly Gender-Swapped Jamie
Image
Malcolm in the Middle was an iconic sitcom that premiered in 2000, and millions of people became its fans. Surrounding the character of Frankie Muniz’s Malcolm, a bright and intelligent boy, the show revolved around his dysfunctional family and the shenanigans that they got up to.

However, it wasn’t your ordinary sitcom where the situations would create moments of absolute hilarity, it was a sitcom where characters had emotions and wholesome moments and showed each other the importance of a family, countless times.

Malcolm in the Middle was more than a sitcom

Let’s not forget, the show gave Bryan Cranston a chance, which made him famous and worthy enough to take on the role of Walter White in AMC’s Breaking Bad in the future. But more than that, Malcolm in the Middle had a lot of love to share with the world.

Not Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston’s Best Show Will Always be the One That Covered Him Up With 60,000 Bees
Image
Actor Bryan Cranston is best known for his critically acclaimed role as Walter White in Breaking Bad, one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Despite his impactful performance in the series, it cannot match the vigor of another Cranston performance, which saw him go to great lengths.

During his stint on the hit sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, Bryan Cranston resorted to doing his own stunts. However, given his character, Hal’s constant antics in the show, Cranston found himself in perilous situations, including an occasion where he was covered with 60,000 bees. Here is what Cranston had to say about his stunt work in Malcolm in the Middle.

One of the Actor’s From Amy’s Favorite Show in The Big Bang Theory Created Malcolm in the Middle
Image
For a show centered around geeks, it only made sense that the main crew would gush about pop culture in The Big Bang Theory, especially when it comes to Sheldon and Amy. Like Jim Parsons’ Sheldon, who was obsessed with pop culture, primarily Doctor Who and Star Trek, Amy was a nerd about Little House on the Prairie.

Interestingly, Linwood Boomer, one of the stars from the show, was responsible for penning and creating one of the most iconic sitcoms of the 2000s, which debuted before Tbbt.

While not exactly historically accurate, like Sheldon points out during his date with Amy on a Skype call, potentially in an attempt to get back at her for ruining Raiders of the Lost Ark, Little House on the Prairie remains iconic.

Aaron Paul Nearly Became Bryan Cranston’s Malcolm in the Middle Co-Star As This Character
Image
Before Breaking Bad made them TV’s most iconic meth-making duo, Aaron Paul almost shared the screen with Bryan Cranston in a very different way. Turns out, Paul was nearly cast in Malcolm in the Middle – not as one of the brothers, but as Francis’ troublemaking friend. Yep, long before Jesse Pinkman shouted “Yeah, science!”, Paul auditioned to be part of the Wilkerson family chaos.

The role eventually went to actor Chris Masterson, but imagining Paul in that early-2000s sitcom world is wild. Here’s some tea about what went down.

Before Breaking Bad ever cooked up its Emmy gold, Aaron Paul almost joined Bryan Cranston in the chaotic sitcom world of Malcolm in the Middle. Paul desperately wanted to play Francis, the wild eldest son of the Wilkerson clan.

Aaron Paul Recalls Bryan Cranston’s Elaborate Prank on Breaking Bad Set: ‘He’d Get Everybody in on It'
Image
Breaking Bad was a very serious and intense show, but that didn't mean things were grim behind the scenes. In fact, actor Bryan Cranston once lightened the mood with an elaborate prank on co-star Aaron Paul.

Paul shared the reveal while appearing on Hot Ones, a web show where celebrities talk about their career while eating spicy food. The hot wings didn't stop Paul from spilling everything about Cranston's unexpectedly wacky behavior. The actor began: “He’s the hardest worker in the room, the most lovable - I mean, he’s my best friend, my son’s godfather, I adore him, I spoke to him for an hour on the phone last night. I really am obsessed with the guy, but he’s also the most immature person I’ve ever met in my life, and I say that with just love and respect."

The immaturity began when Cranston...

Image
With Malcolm and the Middle seeing the return of the majority of the sitcom's cast, director Ken Kwapis has teased that fans won't be disappointed by Bryan Cranston's return to a lighter, more comedic role. Bryan Cranston Teases ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Physical Comedy: “I’m, Of Course, Naked Again”
Image
With Bryan Cranston reprising his lovable goofball patriarch Hal in the Malcolm in the Middle reboot, he’s flexing some old acting muscles.

After reminding fans of his physical comedy chops in the Season 1 finale of The Studio, the Oscar nominee teased more slapstick laughs to come in the upcoming revival of his Fox sitcom, which ran for seven seasons from 2000 to 2006.

“I’m asked to do physical comedy on that show and I realized, ‘Oh, it’s been 20 years since I did that,'” he told IndieWire. “I have a few extra restrictions now, so it’s like I’m crawling around. I’m, of course, naked again. That’s no surprise, no surprise at all.”

Ahead of the show’s 25th anniversary, a Disney+ revival was announced for a limited, four-episode run in December, with Frankie Muniz returning as Malcolm, alongside Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek reprising their roles...

'No Surprise at All': Bryan Cranston Confirms Hal Gets Naked (Again) in Malcolm in the Middle Revival
Image
Before Bryan Cranston was Walter White, he was Hal, the affable dad from hit '00s sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. Hal was a role Cranston was perfectly cast for- and now, years later, he's playing it again.

The premise of the new Malcolm in the Middle show is that boy genius Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) is grown up and has a girlfriend and daughter of his own. His parents, Hal and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) demand his presence at their 40th anniversary and things get hairy - especially since the entire family is a powder keg of bad behavior sometimes. Now, Cranston has discussed the show with IndieWire and given fans a taste of what's to come.

Muniz and Kaczmarek are both joining Cranston in the reboot, as are Christopher Masterson (Francis) and Justin Berfield (Reese). The role of Dewey will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, replacing Erik Per Sullivan. Cranston...

Image
After much fan clamoring, the highly anticipated revival of Malcolm in the Middle is finally on its way. The series recently wrapped filming, and the cast and crew are being bombarded with questions about it so that fans can find another piece of information that’ll excite them further. Bryan Cranston, the patriarch of the Wilkerson family, was recently asked about his return in the upcoming series, and he didn’t disappoint.

“It’s been 20 years since we said goodbye, and now we’re seeing the family again and each person,” Cranston told IndieWire of reuniting with his on-screen family. Malcolm in the Middle was the career launcher for its cast, especially for Cranston, who went on to dominate the small screen in Breaking Bad, and his on-screen son, Frankie Muniz. Malcolm in the Middle Revival Wraps; Cranston Hails ‘Rewarding’ Return
Bryan Cranston
Bryan Cranston says reprising gentle patriarch Hal for a short “Malcolm in the Middle” revival has already left him “rewarded” — and the cameras are off. The four-episode miniseries, commissioned by Disney+ for the sitcom’s 25th anniversary, finished filming earlier in May, yet the service has not fixed a premiere date, Cranston confirmed during a recent For Your Consideration event in New York City.

Speaking with reporters, the 69-year-old actor recalled that “slipping back into that character was so rewarding — I missed him,” adding that a patterned short-sleeve shirt from Hal’s wardrobe helped him recapture the well-meaning chaos fans remember.

Most of the core cast returned, including Jane Kaczmarek, Frankie Muniz, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield. Erik Per Sullivan declined, so newcomer Caleb Ellsworth-Clark steps in as Dewey, with Anthony Timpano portraying Jamie. New faces Keeley Karsten and Kiana Madeira play Malcolm’s daughter Leah and girlfriend Tristan, respectively,...

Bryan Cranston on Returning to the ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Reboot: ‘I’m, Of Course, Naked Again’

Bryan Cranston isn’t slowing down any time soon, most recently reuniting with Wes Anderson for “The Phoenician Scheme,” their latest collaboration following “Asteroid City” in 2023 and “Isle of Dogs” in 2018. In Anderson’s latest, he plays Reagan, the brother of Tom Hanks’ character. We caught up with the actor at the film’s New York City premiere on Wednesday, May 28.

15 Best Malcolm In The Middle Episodes, Ranked
Image
"Malcolm in the Middle" is hands-down one of the best sitcoms of the 2000s. It took the idea of a dysfunctional family, seen plenty of times before, but made it far more realistic. The central family with Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) literally in the middle of everything genuinely struggles to keep a roof over their heads. The kids regularly get into trouble, much to the chagrin of the overbearing family matriarch Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) and her far more easygoing husband Hal (Bryan Cranston).

Sitcoms using laugh tracks was already on the way out by the time "Malcolm in the Middle" came around, but its exclusion in the show allowed for more experimental storytelling. Characters weren't as confined to the same spaces. You could have intersecting stories with the main family and then their troublemaking oldest son, Francis (Christopher Masterson), at military school and then various other locales. There was genuinely nothing...

Bryan Cranston Teases "Fun" 'Malcolm in the Middle' Revival at Disney+
Image
He may be recognized these days thanks to his portrayal of Walter White in Breaking Bad, but long before Bryan Cranston became a meth cook in the popular AMC series, he was dad to Frankie Muniz on Malcolm in the Middle. Now, nearly 20 years since the sitcom left the airwaves, it's returning for a four-episode revival later this year that Cranston recently described as "fun."

Speaking with People at a recent event for his Apple TV+ series The Studio, the subject of the Malcolm in the Middle revival came up. In addition to Cranston, the core cast will also be returning, save for Erik Per Sullivan, whose character of Dewey had to be recast after the young star left the business some years ago. Still, Cranston said that getting the band back together again after nearly 20 years was an experience like no other:

"Slipping back into that character of Hal...

'It's Been Almost 20 Years': Bryan Cranston Opens Up on Revisiting Malcolm in the Middle for Disney+ Revival
Image
Bryan Cranston opens up about returning to Malcolm in the Middlefor the Disney+ revival.

Speaking to People, Cranston candidly said, "Slipping back into that character of Hal for me was so rewarding — I missed him. It's been almost 20 years since we said goodbye." Cranston went on to say of his role as Malcolm in the Middle's iconic sitcom dad, Hal, "And he’s a sweet, lovable man. He’s really a lovable guy, and it was fun to see all my whole family back together. It was great."

Cranston made his debut as Hal when Malcolm in the Middle premiered on Fox back in 2000. The series revolved around the antics of the series titular Malcolm, portrayed by Frankie Muniz, a boy genius who is the third of four (later five) children growing up in a loving if abjectly dysfunctional home. Bryan Cranston Says He Missed Playing Hal on ‘Malcolm in the Middle’: Revival Is ‘So Rewarding’
Image
Bryan Cranston is all in on the “Malcolm in the Middle” revival. The actor told People in an interview published Sunday that returning to play his character Hal Wilkerson has been “so rewarding” as an actor.

“Slipping back into that character of Hal for me was so rewarding — I missed him,” he said. “It’s been almost 20 years since we said goodbye. And he’s a sweet, lovable man. He’s really a lovable guy, and it was fun to see all my whole family back together. It was great.”

Cranton also revealed what item of clothing he used to get back into character. “It’s a short-sleeve shirt that Hal would wear, a patterned short-sleeve shirt that screams out he’s not going anywhere,” he explained.

In addition to Cranston, much of the show’s original cast — including Frankie Muniz, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, and Justin Berfield — have returned for the revival.
