The 3 Family Guy Episodes Written By Series Creator Seth MacFarlane
Image
A common misconception among more casual "Family Guy" fans is that creator Seth MacFarlane is personally responsible for every single creative decision. Although he voices many of the characters, his presence in the writers' room is a lot lighter than one would think. He's mentioned in interviews that he hasn't written for "Family Guy" since around 2009, and even before that, he only officially wrote the scripts for three episodes. That's right: only three episodes in the show's entire 400+ episode run were penned by MacFarlane.

Of course, as any writer for a long-running sitcom will tell you, the writing for these shows is very collaborative. There'll often be one writer who receives credit for the episode, but the script will typically go through multiple revisions from the rest of the staff. I know from interviews with staff writers from "Rick and Morty" and "Futurama" that it's often hard for the staff...

“I don’t think she’d ever be happy with a career…”: Anne Hathaway’s Tom Cruise-Like Drive Will Never Allow Her to Limit Herself to Romantic Movies
Image
The career trajectory of a Hollywood star never lies in stone, as versatility marks a key trait for ensuring continued success. Going by this mantra, Anne Hathaway has come a long way from her roots as a young actress in 1999’s Get Real. However, her march to the top was not a solitary move, and she has found several inspirations along the way.

Remarkably, one of those celebrated stars on her list is none other than Tom Cruise, even if it is less of an indirect influence and more of a coincidental comparison. The Mission Impossible actor boasts unmatched star power and a major chunk of it has to do with his own dedication and commitment to the craft.

In an interesting parallel, Hathaway sharing some of her work ethics with the action hero may not...

Brian Eno Remixes David Bowie’s “Get Real” with Nature Sounds: Stream
Image
With Earth Day coming up in a few days, Brian Eno has called on Mother Nature to give David Bowie’s 1995 deep cut “Get Real” a unique twist using environmental sounds. The remix has been released as part of a global music initiative called Sounds Right, which has made Nature an official artist on streaming platforms to raise money for earth conservation.

Thanks to Sounds Right, a share of royalties from any song that credits Nature as an artist will go to EarthPercent, a charity founded by Eno. The organization will then distribute that money to conservation and restoration projects in the world’s “most precious and precarious ecosystems” under the guidance of the Sounds Right Expert Advisory Panel, a group of world-leading biologists, environmental activists, Indigenous People’s representatives, and experts in conservation funding.

Taskmaster’s Sam Campbell Has All the Makings of a New Fan-Favourite
Image
It may have been mere months since Taskmaster series 15 ended, but the brand-new series 16 feels like it’s arrived at just the right time, giving us a chance to escape endlessly depressing talk of the latest celebrity criminal revelations and our world leaders’ somewhat “lalala can’t hear you” approach to climate change.

There’s a lot to live up to after the excellent last series, but Taskmaster series 16 has a promising line-up that fits the show’s tried-and-tested dysfunctional family dynamic. The ‘mum and dad’ figures of Julian Clary and Sue Perkins are joined by three distinctive ‘kids’: the ditsy persona of Lucy Beaumont, the intelligent fun of Susan Wokoma… and Sam Campbell, who is completely bonkers.

Although he’s probably the least UK-famous of this batch of contestants right now, he’s got serious comedy chops, winning the top prize at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022 and appearing in some great sitcoms.

Broadcasters Are Chasing Docu-Series Over Feature Documentaries, Says Canadian Report
Image
As U.S. streamers like Netflix and Amazon Prime make greater inroads into the Canadian market, a stateside trend has shown up north of the border: Less local coin for feature documentaries as broadcasters chase docu-series.

The Documentary Organization of Canada, releasing its latest Get Real report on Sept. 12, said local TV networks are backing more documentary series that look very much like reality TV series. “Now, when we talk about documentary production in Canada, we are increasingly talking about series,” Doc’s executive director Sarah Spring said in a statement as the seventh Get Real report was released.

Canadian filmmakers have long burnished their image with award-winning theatrical documentaries like Daniel Roher’s Oscar-winning Navalny. But the Doc report argues that, going forward, Canadian broadcasters have less appetite for one-off feature documentaries with points-of-view and sophisticated storylines, as they increasingly push for glorified reality TV series via docu-series.

Anne Hathaway says journalist asked if she was ‘a good girl or a bad girl’ when she was 16
Image
Anne Hathaway spoke about the inappropriate questions she received as a young actor at the premiere of her new film Eileen on Saturday (21 January).

The film – based on Ottessa Moshfegh’s 2015 novel – follows a young prison secretary (Thomasin McKenzie) who befriends a psychologist (Hathaway). However, the friendship soon becomes complicated by a heinous crime.

At a Q&a session following the film’s Sundance screening, Hathaway began by apologising in the event her answer was turned into “an annoying headline”, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Praising director William Oldroyd’s 2016 period drama Lady Macbeth, starring Florence Pugh, Hathaway said: “I thought it was extraordinary work. I saw a study of female complication that hit me really, really deep, and I felt like Will was a filmmaker that could be trusted to tell complicated stories, especially about females.”

The actor said she “just remembered one of the very first questions I ever...

Get Real will explore the many ways reality television has impacted our real life, and vice versa, while hearing from culture critics, the producers, and the participants who brought it to the screen in the first place.

Graden knows a thing or two about reality television, having worked at MTV during the days of The Osbournes, Punk’d and Jersey Shore.

Sarah Girgis, who has worked on Catfish and Leavenworth, is showrunner. It...

Anne Hathaway (‘Modern Love’) might just sing her way to an Emmy again
Anne Hathaway
While Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for her supporting role as the sickly prostitute Fantine — who sings the showstopper “I Dreamed a Dream”– in the 2012 big-screen adaptation of the musical “Les Miserables,” it wasn’t the first time the actress was bestowed with a major showbiz award for crooning a tune. In 2010, she was the voice of a princess character on “The Simpsons” named Penelope who joins “The Krusty the Clown Show” in order to attract more girl viewers. Initially, Krusty dislikes his new female sidekick, until he realizes that Penelope is his biggest fan. Then it’s love at second sight.

Near the conclusion of the episode,”Once Upon a Time in Springfield,” Hathaway’s Penelope performs a lovely bittersweet version of “Moon River” from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. She ended up winning a Emmy for for Best Voice-over Performance. While the star...

As part of the deal, Phillips will develop projects for both entities that can air on platforms within or outside the ViacomCBS fold. The deal was jointly announced by Showtime president of entertainment Gary Levine and CBS Television Studios president David Stapf.

“Securing the talents of a gifted writer/producer/showrunner like Clyde is a huge bonus for the Studio,” said Stapf in a statement. “There are few creators out there that have successfully crossed so many genres, and we’re fortunate to have him join our team. I’m looking forward to discovering where his fertile imagination goes next.”

Phillips has created multiple series such as “Suddenly Susan,” which ran for four seasons on NBC in the late ’90s, the Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg vehicle “Get Real” and the ’90s...

Clyde Phillips is getting back in business with Showtime. The former Dexter and Nurse Jackie showrunner has signed a joint overall deal with the premium cable network and CBS Television Studios. Under the pact, Phillips will develop projects for both entities that can air on platforms within or outside the ViacomCBS umbrella.

This marks the first joint overall deal for siblings Showtime and CBS TV Studios, both overseen by David Nevins, which have increased their creative collaborations over the past couple of years. The pact will also likely provide fuel for the never-ending speculation about a potential Dexter follow-up at Showtime.

Anne Hathaway Recalls Subtly Being Told to Lose Weight For a Role When She Was Just 16
Anne Hathaway
Back in 1999, a young—and eager—Anne Hathaway landed her first gig on the short-lived drama series, Get Real. But rather than celebrate, she was subtly told to focus on her body. "At 16 years old, it was 'Congratulations, you have the part. I'm not saying you need to lose weight. I'm just saying don't gain weight,'" the Oscar winner recalled to Allure for their September issue. "Which, of course, means you need to lose weight." Now, two decades later, the 36-year-old is still thinking about her figure albeit in a more positive light. Take, for example, her experience on set of her latest...

Great Moments in Screen Kissing: "Love, Simon"
We asked Team Experience to share favourite screen kisses this week. Here's Dancin' Dan...

Love, Simon isn't the first film to be made about Lgbtq teens. There's Beautiful Thing, But I'm a Cheerleader, Camp, Edge of Seventeen (not the Hailee Steinfeld one), Get Real... the list goes on and on. It certainly won't be the last film to be made about Lgbtq teens, either. But it is the first one produced and distributed in wide release by a major Hollywood studio. Because of that, yes, there is an air of polished mediocrity and safety to the whole enterprise. And yet, it's hard to deny the film's effectiveness.

I don't know if, when I was a teenager, I would have had the courage to buy a ticket to see Love, Simon by myself. I do know, however, that if I had, it would have made my teenage years that much better.

But she’s now heading for the medium in a big way, signing on to star in miniseries The Ambassador’s Wife.Producer Mark Gordon snapped up the rights to Jennifer Steil’s novel, which hit bookshelves last month, and was inspired by the writer’s time as the British Ambassador’s wife in Yemen. “Scandal” 312 Recap: “We Do Not Touch the First Ladies”
We open on Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia (Kerry Washington) doing what they do best … bitterly arguing in between bouts of boinking. The sheets aren’t even dry following some hotel room romp and they’re already making with the bickering. The gist … she’s still upset he made Jake Command, and he’s all jealous about her making Jake her beard.

And it doesn’t help matters that everything out of Fitz’s mouth is some offensively derogatory term, as he calls Liv a “Hen” and “Prize” (not to mention “Sweetie,” “Honey,” “Doll,” “Tootsie,” and “Toots”). Hey, Liv, don’t be so upset! He also uses those terms of endearment with waitresses, lap dancers, and the Israeli Prime Minister.

They exit the room and promptly wipe their feet all over the doormat outside — the doormat being Jake (Scott Foley) who is stationed there waiting to escort Liv home in fake boyfriend mode.
