This series was the best! I loved it more than Pokemon and more than its follow-ups - not that they were bad, but nothing could compare to this. I loved the characters, the Digimon, the battles and the stories.
Digimon Adventure really is a great show. One of my favorites as a kid, I now revisit it as an adult and it definitely stands the test of time!
The show does an excellent job of character development, character designs, action scenes, and adding the element of real world consequences. Each of the kids deal with their own insecurities, which they learn to overcome in order to help themselves and their friends, typically helped out by their individual Digimon partners. The Digimon all have really cool designs. The actions sequences, while nothing spectacular are interesting and fun to watch, especially as the Digimon evolutions grow further. By adding real world consequences, the show helps us feel the danger and intensity of what's happening, making it much more exciting.
Not without its flaws of course. Early on, the first 10 episodes get a bit repetitive. At times, the show can be dull and immature, which is to be expected of a kids show.
Overall, a great ride that makes you feel like a kid again!

I grew up in Portugal so i got a dubbed Japanese version, although now has an adult i think the Portuguese dubs are kind of cringy specially in this season, nowadays i watch it in Japanese with English subtitles. This anime is haunting it's emotional you can relate to the characters, feels like you are there with them going trough everything they are going. When i watched the american version most of the serie's soul was gone so i couldn't even watch it anymore. This IMDB page is for the normal Jap version i noticed even has the original voice cast so i give it a 10, the American version got a 4 from me.
Well, given that I watched this a 12 year-old child I can't be objective, but at that age I watched this it really was something. It had everything I wanted. It really has one of the best soundtracks I have witness in any animated series (maybe even better than the anime itself and it still gives me some crazy goosebumps when I listen to it), a decent linear plot, and the great transformations of digimons. The transformations are one of the biggest cards of this anime, since all the episodes are centered around these moments where epicness begins. Some say that it is just an imitation of pokemon which started at about the same time. I disagree, since this is far better than the too simplistic pokemon. I think could be enjoyed only from children, while this has some potential to older audiences too. Even though it's a perfect 10 for me (probably due to nostalgia, in every case it's a very watchable anime for pretty much everybody. It is not of course at the level of let's say One Piece or Dragonball, but still, you will have good time watching this.
Honestly? Writing wise, Digimon was a much better show than Pokemon.
Of course, most people does not notice that because they are only familiar with the atrocious english dub which was filled with bad jokes and censorship. The great music of the series was replaced with some godawful trashy "rap" songs that feel totally out of place.
I am so glad the dub in my country keep the original songs and music, and also keep almost the same dialogue of the original series.
Watch the original 1999 anime, avoid the english dub.
