Magus's three generals, Ozzie, Slash, and Flea, are named after famous musicians: Ozzy Osbourne, former lead singer for Black Sabbath; Slash, guitarist for Guns n' Roses; and Flea, bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The character Ayla is a reference to Jean M. Auel's series of books about a woman in prehistoric times called Ayla.
Character design and artwork for the game was done by Akira Toriyama, best known for his Dragon Ball series.
