The movie with arguably one of the most memorable final shots of any film, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, will debut on Prime Video on Nov. 1. The final scene, featuring the late Donald Sutherland, has gone on to become a frequently-used meme, especially during the spooky season.

The 1978 film, also starring Jeff Goldblum, Leonard Nimoy, and Brooke Adams, was actually a remake of the 1956 film of the same name. Both the remake and the 1978 film version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers were based on the 1955 novel, The Body Snatchers, written by Jack Finney.

Madrid — San Sebastian Festival has announced the third and final recipient of this year’s Donostia career achievement awards, Canadian actor Donald Sutherland. He will accept the honor before screening his latest film, Guiseppe Capotondi’s “The Burnt Orange Heresy.”

With more than 200 credited performances over the past half-century, Sutherland stands tall, literally and figuratively, as a major figure in world cinema. The actor was nominated eight times for a Golden Globe, in 2017 received an honorary Oscar for career achievement and in 2019 was named a Companion of the Order of Canada, one of the country’s most prestigious honors.

Sutherland first studied engineering before catching the acting bug and bouncing around performing arts schools in Canada and the U.K. It wasn’t long before the young actor made his way to screens in living rooms across the English-speaking world in popular series such as “The Saint” and “The Avengers.

After racking up big box office for nearly three decades, funnyman Jim Carrey could crack the Emmy race this year with his starring role in the new Showtime series “Kidding.” Carrey has already earned a Golden Globe nomination for his series, which casts him as a popular children’s puppet show host trying to piece his life back together after the sudden death of his son. That was his seventh career bid from the HFPA; he previously won prizes for his dramatic performances in “The Truman Show” and “Man on the Moon” and competed for his comedic roles in “The Mask,” “Liar Liar,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”

Donald Sutherland has joined Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant in HBO’s upcoming drama series “The Undoing,” the network announced Wednesday.

Based on the book “You Should Have Known” by Jean Hanff Korelitz, the six-episode series stars Kidman as Grace Sachs, a successful therapist with a devoted husband (Grant) and young son who attends an elite private school in New York City. Overnight a chasm opens in her life: a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations.

Sutherland, who most recently starred as J. Paul Getty in director Danny Boyle’s FX anthology series “Trust,” will play Franklin Renner, Grace’s father, a retired financier and loving grandfather, who is tasked with protecting his family when the turbulent revelations come to light.

Donald Sutherland will be honored with the Zurich Film Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award at its upcoming 14th edition. There will also be a retrospective of the veteran film and TV star’s work.

Sutherland will be in Zurich and present his recent movie, Paolo Virzi’s “The Leisure Seeker.” His recent work also includes roles in “The Hunger Games” and TV series “Trust.” His son, Kiefer, has previously been honored at Zurich, receiving its Golden Eye award in 2015.

Hercules is a story that is in desperate need of a retelling, right? Apparently so, as at least two different Hercules themed movies are being released within a year of one another.
