The action begins with the launch of the manhwa series, Get Schooled, which is based on the hit webtoon by the renowned Korean webtoon production company, Ylab, and tells the story of a tough educator's unorthodox techniques to clean up a violent high school.

Ablaze also opens advance solicitations in July for a pair of notable releases set to debut in August. The trade paperback edition of On The Way delivers a story of friendship, family, and learning by Spanish creators Paco Hernández and José Ángel Ares. Solicitations for Volume 2 of the popular supernatural romance webtoon manhwa series, Witch Of Mine, also open in July ahead of its August release.

Acting as a perfect introduction to the world of manhwa, Sang-Yeop Kim’s “The Restorer’s Home” shares similarities with its Japanese counterpart while also interjecting elements that make it distinctly Korean. Granted, fans of both can often point to many instances that make the two distinct, but where Kim’s work excels is in celebrating Korean culture by exploring history to craft a story that is entertaining yet informative.

In a sad blow, the Melbourne International Film Festival (Miff) has announced it will cancel its in-cinema screenings given the current Covid situation in the city.

The festival, always designed as a hybrid event, will continue nationally on Miff Play, with the festival securing an additional 30 titles for the platform. These include some direct-from-Cannes titles such as The Hill Where Lionesses Roar, La Civil, Rehana Maryam Noor and Babi Yar, and Australian films Ablaze, Chef Antonio’s Recipes for Revolution, Little Tornadoes and Paper City.

However, some of the festival most anticipated films, including local films such as Leah Purcell’s The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson, intended as the Opening Night Gala, and Justin Kurzel’s Nitram are not available on the service.

As regional Victoria is no longer in lockdown, the festival’s regional season will proceed, with required changes to the line-up to be advised through local operators.
