‘Raging Midlife’ Blu-ray Review

Stars: Emily Sweet, Joseph Aviel, Brian Sutherland, Lucy Paschall, Greg James, Walter Koenig, Eddie Griffin, Paula Abdul, Danielle Vasinova, Darielle Mason | Written by Rob Taylor, Nic Costa | Directed by Rob Taylor

Growing up most of us watched wrestling. It is like watching superheroes in real life, but some never grow out of the squared circle awesomeness. That is why films like No Hold Barred, Body Slam and The Wrestler, the 1974 edition and the 2008 edition are so popular. In 2000, WCW lent many of their wrestlers to the film Ready to Rumble. That film was a buddy comedy about hardcore wrestling fans. Fast forward 25 years later and co-writer and director Rob Taylor...

Denise Richards’ Family Feared Her ‘Special Forces’ Adventure
Image
Rhobh alum, Denise Richards admits that her family feared for her Special Forces adventure. She joined the Season 3 cast but not everyone in her life was supportive of her journey. So, what were they so scared of? Keep reading for more details.

Denise Richards’ Family Feared Her Special Forces Adventure

It is not a novel idea for Denise Richards to be on reality television. She had her own reality series from 2008 to 2009 on E! which followed her journey as a single parent. Denise’s father moved in with her and her two daughters, Sami and Lola. She then joined the cast of the Rhobh in Season 9 and was very chill her first year. Her wedding to Aaron Phypers was even documented and she shared what it was like to raise a child with special needs. More so, she opened up about being a working mother and having Charlie Sheen as her ex.

The Forgotten Eddie Murphy Comedy With A 0% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Sometime in the 2000s, comedian Eddie Murphy began experiencing a career slump that, quite sadly, would remain with him for years. Ron Underwood's 2002 sci-fi comedy "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" was a notorious bomb, making only $7.1 million on a $100 million budget. Murphy's cinematic update of "I Spy" from the same year also lost money, and Murphy turned to making mediocre but popular kiddie flicks like "The Haunted Mansion" and "Daddy Day Care" to make ends meet.

In 2006, Murphy received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in "Dreamgirls," but he immediately chased it with the universally hated "Norbit" only months later. "Norbit" made money, but no one seemed to like it. Some have even said that the presence of "Norbit" in theaters harmed Murphy's chance of winning an Oscar that year. He lost to Alan Arkin in "Little Miss Sunshine."

Murphy's next few films were all panned by critics,...

10 Reasons Why Sid Vicious Should Be Inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2025
Image
Call him Sid Vicious, call him Sid Justice, call him Sycho Sid, but whatever name you prefer for the former WWE and WCW Champion, he must be called undeniably impactful in his craft. His impact on the industry was felt all the more when the world he ruled stopped to mourn Sid Eudy at age 63 following a battle with cancer.

As those in and out of the wrestling business contemplate the most respectful ways to honor The Master and the Ruler of the World, one no-brainer way to do so would be to induct him into the WWE Hall of Fame. While the legitimacy of the WWE Hall of Fame has been a topic of divisive conversation within the wrestling community, it is nonetheless a prompt way to preserve memories of wrestlers from the past in a way that allows the future generation to learn about them, all while honoring their names.

Bruce Campbell Remembers Spider-Man Co-Star Randy Savage
Image
Late pro wrestling legend Randy Savage had kind things to say about Bruce Campbell after working with the actor in Spider-Man. With the clip resurfacing on social media, Campbell paid back the kindness.

In Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie, which introduced Tobey Maguire in the titular role, Campbell appeared as a pro wrestling organization's ring announcer. Savage also had a guest role as Bonesaw McGraw, a pro wrestler who Maguire's Peter Parker must fight in the ring. A resurfaced clip on X saw Savage praising Campbell before bestowing him the pro-wrestling-like nickname of "Beautiful" Bruce Campbell. After watching the clip on X, Campbell said he felt the same way about the one they call the "Macho Man."

You were beautiful too, Randy. https://t.co/diOwDtIbBY Bruce Campbell (@GroovyBruce) June 23, 2024

The 10 Best John Cena Movie and TV Roles, Ranked
Image
Professional wrestler John Cena is a 16-time WWE champion and is regarded as one of the best to ever step in the ring. In between title matches, he has also exerted dominance at the box office, appearing in some of the biggest blockbusters over the past 20 years. He has also established himself as a solid leading man, starring in some truly entertaining movies.

Cena has the grumpiest resting-scowl face in the business, but also a mile-wide smile that can defuse any situation, which reflects his range as an actor. Equally competent in tense dramas and action films as he is with wacky comedies, he can pull off any role with precision. Most of all, he is an extremely likable person, so even when he's cast as a villain, it's hard not to adore him.

Eight Legged Freaks (2002) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
The late 1990s and early 2000s were a weird era for films. There is definitely an influence from Y2K, and it seemed like there was an attitude that anything goes from some and a tightening of the belt from others. The world was in an odd place, and this influenced everything in culture like music, television, and films. 2002 gave us a wide variety of horror, like Queen of the Damned, Fear Dot Com, Cabin Fever, Bubba Ho-Tep, Dog Soldiers, and Bloody Mallory. This was the end of an era and the start of another for David Arquette it seemed. A time when he tested the “leading man” waters. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite go as planned as box office bomb after box office bomb came. Films like Ravenous, Ready to Rumble, 3000 Miles to Graceland, See Spot Run, and The Grey Zone all featured Arquette in some form but...

The Iron Claw Review: The Texas-Sized Von Erich Tragedy Told With Blood, Sweat, And Heart
Image
This review contains spoilers for "The Iron Claw."

The world of professional wrestling is filled with enough tragedy to constitute its own dedicated documentary series about it, but there has never been a story of familial annihilation quite like the Von Erichs. Often compared to the Kennedy family, the Von Erichs were/are a dynasty of wrestling superstars and the subject of unimaginable despair. Telling their story outside of a documentary setting seems an impossible task, but Sean Durkin has done the impossible with "The Iron Claw." While marketed as a biopic, "The Iron Claw" is more like a dramatic retelling of the Von Erich story — a legend retold blow by blow and presented as if it were modern folklore. And yet despite the creative liberties taken — including a glaring omission (more on that later) — "The Iron Claw" is the type of drama that makes a home in the darkest...

The Classic Comedy That Heavily Influenced The Mighty Ducks

Disney's "The Mighty Ducks" spawned a trilogy of films, an animated television series, a live-action sequel television series, and a real-life National Hockey League hockey team. Frank Zappa’s Son Ahmet Talks Legacy, Labels, and His Father’s Inventions
Image
Frank Zappa, who died in 1993, is one of the least understood artists of the 20th Century, which is ironic because he was also the most prolific. Introduced to the world as a bicycle-playing artiste concrète sitting naked on a toilet, he was a harmonic genius who experimented with sonic assault weapons and visual subversions. Frank Zappa was the Nikola Tesla of music. Alex Winter’s documentary Zappa, which is now available to watch in the UK and Ireland on Altitude.film, clarifies many of the contradictions by highlighting Zappa’s primary focus. The Mothers of Invention bandleader was a composer.

As such, Frank was also a cultural ambassador, a hero of free expression, a hysterical satirist, and a guitar virtuoso. He was celebrated in the Czech Republic after the Velvet Revolution, and castigated by parental control mongers in America. But even Frank knew his rep enough to drop an album...

You Cannot Kill David Arquette review – as unbelievable as a wrestling bout
David Arquette
This odd, documentary-style version of how the US actor became a wrestler is strained at the seams

Here is the strange, frantic, semi-explained story of the Hollywood star David Arquette, a member of the renowned Arquette acting clan, and his recent attempts to reverse a celebrity career slump by making it as a professional wrestler, 20 years after he actually won America’s World Championship Wrestling belt in 2000 as a weird byproduct of being in the wrestling movie Ready to Rumble. Apparently, the organisers found him sufficiently impressive to let him participate in the actual event’s “storylines” and even fluke a victory – although the backstage discussions around that are never revealed here. The wrestling world has form in letting celebs have a go (Donald Trump has done many WWE stunts) but the pure silliness and improbability of it all enraged diehard wrestling fans, who felt Arquette contaminated the brand. Well,...

Fantasia 2020: ‘You Cannot Kill David Arquette’ Review
Image
Features: David Arquette, Patricia Arquette, Courteney Cox | Directed by David Darg, Price James

If you had of told me a week ago that a documentary about Deputy Dewey from the Scream movies was something I needed in my life right now, I would of called you a damn fool. I you had told me that a documentary about that actor who tried to be a wrestler for five minutes would take me on a rollercoaster of emotions – and I mean the full spectrum of human feeling: the highs, the lows and everything in between – well again I would of scoffed at you.

However I am somewhat of a wrestling fan… I am somewhat of a David Arquette fan… Also at the best of times if there is one thing us Brits cant get enough of is a bloody good redemption story and at our worst we love good car crash...

The 5 Wildest Parts of ‘You Cannot Kill David Arquette’
Image
This article is presented by superLTD. You Cannot Kill David Arquette is an exacting, shockingly intimate look at the wild, wild life of David Arquette. He's a professional actor whom you know from the Scream franchise, yes. But he's also a literal world wrestling champion, in a WCW move made to promote Arquette's 2000 comedy Ready to Rumble — a move that turned wrestling fans rapidly against him, made him the laughingstock of an entire community, and exacerbated his decline into darkness and semi-obscurity. The documentary covers Arquette's return to the world of wrestling, his attempts …...

‘You Cannot Kill David Arquette’ Film Review: Enjoy the Documentary, But Don’t Trust It
David Arquette in You Cannot Kill David Arquette (2020)
Can you trust a documentary that’s set in the world of professional wrestling, where the action is scripted and the storylines are phony?

Can you believe what you see in a nonfiction film about an actor who has always to some degree approached his career like an extended piece of performance art?

And if you don’t trust it and you can’t believe it, can you still be entertained and maybe even touched by “You Cannot Kill David Arquette?”

I’d say the answers to those questions are no, no and hell, yeah.

‘You Cannot Kill David Arquette’ Review: An Ecstatic Doc About an Actor Wrestling for Redemption
Image
Actor David Arquette — who once posed on the cover of Vanity Fair alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey, and the rest of 1996’s hottest leading men before the “Scream” franchise left him typecast as a terminal doofus — is just kind of sick of being a joke. “I’m just kind of sick of being a joke,” the now-48-year-old laments at one point in his new documentary while dressed in nothing but a rhinestone cape and vaping on the back of a pony in his backyard. It’s a funny moment in a movie full of good-natured howlers, but Arquette isn’t kidding. On the contrary, he’s willing to die for a little respect. And he just might have to in order to earn the kind of respect he’s looking for.

It all started when Arquette partnered with World Championship Wrestling to promote his goofy 2000 comedy “Ready to Rumble.

‘You Cannot Kill David Arquette’ Review: Documenting an Actor’s Obsession with Professional Wrestling
Image
In 2000, David Arquette, coming off “Never Been Kissed” and the third “Scream” film, co-starred in a comedy called “Ready to Rumble,” which attempted to satirize the hyperbolic freak show of professional wrestling. To promote the movie, Arquette got woven into World Championship Wrestling storylines, mostly as a comic foil — after all, he wasn’t a real wrestler. But a few weeks into the film’s release, in a setup bogus enough to shame Andy Kaufman, it was arranged that Arquette would win a fight to become the WCW Heavyweight Champion. Which he did (his reign lasted all of 12 days).

This was a stunt so outlandish that wrestling fans considered it a bridge of fakery too far. Some said that Arquette’s championship had ruined the sport. So even though Arquette, a wrestling aficionado from way back, was just riding the cross-promotional PR train and doing what he’d been told,...

Review: You Cannot Kill David Arquette is One of the Best Documentaries (and Films) of the Year
Image
Before I start this review, I feel like I should go ahead and just admit a few things. One, I am a ridiculously huge fan of David Arquette and his work, which includes his performances in the Scream series to Ready to Rumble to his directorial effort on The Tripper and everything in between. And two, I’m one of the few people out there who was actually excited when he was working in WCW. With that in mind, I was already totally and completely on board for You Cannot Kill David Arquette before I even saw a single minute of footage. But now that I have had the opportunity to check out this all-encompassing project from directors David Darg and Price James, You Cannot Kill David Arquette quickly has become not only my favorite documentary of 2020, but one of my favorite films, regardless of category, of the year as well.

David Arquette Considers Why He ‘Nearly Killed Himself’ for Wrestling
David Arquette
If you’re a fan of pro-wrestling, you’re probably familiar with the time actor David Arquette (Scream) was part of the 2000 WCW season. During the Slamboree pay-per-view event, he even became the world heavyweight champion. The entire scenario was created to promote his new film at the time, Ready to Rumble, which saw two diehard wrestling fans help their long time hero return to glory after he’s unceremoniously ousted from their beloved wrestling franchise. Much like his character of Gordie Boggs in that 20-year-old film, wrestling fans can be overly passionate, and Arquette’s claim to the championship belt was met with hatred and disgust by the public.

And yet since childhood, Arquette himself has been a passionate pro-wrestling fan, and spent 18 years shrouded in shame from what was meant to be a simple promotional tool. He knew what went wrong, and he wanted to fix it. So,...

Nearly 20 years after he “won” the initial title, through ups and downs in his career, with his family, and with his struggles with addiction, Arquette seeks redemption by returning to the ring for real this time.

David Darg and Price James directed the film that was a selection of the 2020 SXSW Film Festival. Within 24 hours of the festival being canceled in early March, Arquette actually hosted the premiere of the film in his California home surrounded by friends, family and a homemade wrestling ring.

Release plans for “You Cannot Kill David Arquette” will be announced at a later date.

The Main Event Trailer Previews Netflix WWE Family Film
Seth Carr
The Main Event may be a family film set to arrive on Netflix, but its content might make you think it’s something streaming on the WWE Network, since the wrestling-themed family film is packed with the wrestling company’s stars.

Indeed, what we have here is a fantastical wish-fulfillment offering in which an 11-year-old, played by Seth Carr finds a magical luchador mask that enhanced abilities that he uses for a crucial competition to become a WWE superstar.

Jay Karas directed the film, bringing television experience notably from tenures on sitcoms such as Superstore, Splitting Up Together, Teachers and Workaholics. He worked here off a screenplay credited to Peter Hoare, Zach Lewis, Larry Postel and Jim Mahoney.

The Main Event Netflix Trailer

The trailer for Netflix’s The Main Event is here. The clip showcases the uplifting tale of a bullied kid, who—magic mask notwithstanding—is buoyed in...

WWE's Rumble Trailer Brings Monsters Into the Wrestling Ring
Will Arnett, Terry Crews, Jamal Duff, and Geraldine Viswanathan in Steve, bête de combat (2021)
Along with the official poster, the first trailer for Paramount Pictures and WWE Studios' animated movie Rumble has just been released online. Set in a world where gargantuan monsters compete in giant rings WWE-style for the entertainment of viewers across the planet, Rumble tells the story of a young monster wrestler trainer who hopes to do her father proud by coaching an underdog performer to be the best in the world. The movie looks like a fun and interesting take on the world of professional wrestling, and you can see what I mean by watching the official Rumble trailer below.

As seen in the trailer, Rumble follows a monster named Steve, voiced by Will Arnett (BoJack Horseman), who has dreams of making it to the top as a professional wrestler. This will mean taking on the champion of the world, a tentacled monster voiced by Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and...

‘You Cannot Kill David Arquette’ Documentary About Actor’s Return to Wrestling in the Works
David Arquette
David Arquette made an unlikely return to professional wrestling last year, and a documentary about his comeback is in the works called “You Cannot Kill David Arquette,” the film’s production company Xtr announced Thursday.

Arquette learned some basic wrestling moves back for his 2000 film “Ready to Rumble,” and at the time, he was even crowned a world champion from World Championship Wrestling as part of a marketing stunt. He became a perfect villain in the sport, and now nearly two decades later, he made the real wrestling circuit and competed in 19 different professional matches, some of which even left him bloodied as seen in this video.

David Darg, an Oscar-nominee for the documentary short film “Body Team 12,” directed “You Cannot Kill David Arquette,” and he’s been filming throughout Arquette’s tour for the last two years. Xtr, a new nonfiction film and TV studio, will be part of...

Sundance Film Review: ‘Fighting With My Family’
A change of pace from the usual action-driven output from WWE studios, “Fighting With My Family” at times more closely brings to mind 2000’s guilty-pleasure comedy “Ready to Rumble,” one of the few filmmaking ventures by the wrestling conglomerate’s then-rival WCW. The current film has some of the same crotch-kick-level humor, and much of the same shameless brand self-promotion, if regrettably none of David Arquette’s inimitable spazardry. But there’s less guilt in this pleasure — in fact, it’s probably the best of the 50-odd movies WWE has produced since 2002’s “The Scorpion King,” which starred this film’s producer, Dwayne Johnson, who steps briefly into the action here.

Recounting the real-life story of the rise of Saraya-Jade Bevis — aka Paige — from working-class Norwich, U.K. to WWE Divas Champion at age 21, “Fighting With My Family” may not be an Oscar contender but it has enough wit, heart,...

David Arquette Returns to Wrestling for Insane-Sounding Hair Match
David Arquette
Many believed David Arquette was done with wrestling after an insane deathmatch this past November left him bloodied and beaten. Now, the actor-turned-wrestler has signed up for his next gig in the ring, and it sounds like it has the potential to be insanely watchable.

Arquette appeared at a news conference on Friday night to hype up his next big match, which will put him up against the burly veteran pro wrestler known as Jocephus. They will be putting it all on the line in what is being called a 'hair match'. They pair will be battling under the National Wrestling Alliance banner. The stakes are that who ever loses this intense bout will have to shave their head clean.

That sounds a little better than succumbing to death from fixture beatings. Believe it or not, former Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is the Nwa President. And he was on hand during the press conference,...

David Arquette Back in the Wrestling Ring with Hair Match and Not Death Match
David Arquette
David Arquette is a glutton for punishment ... returning to the wrestling ring after a deathmatch that almost killed him. Arquette took the mic at a news conference Friday night to hype his upcoming match with veteran pro wrestler Jocephus in a "hair match" for the National Wrestling Alliance. The stakes ... loser shaves his head. Nwa President and former Smashing Pumpkins frontman, Billy Corgan, kept the 2 men apart during the faceoff at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center in Clarksville,...

David Arquette Has ‘Zero Plans’ to Be in Another Gory Wrestling ‘Death Match’
David Arquette
David Arquette said his gruesome, bloody injury from Friday night’s wrestling “death match” was because of his “lack of experience.”

“Don’t try this at home,” the actor/producer wrote in a Twitter message on Monday.

Arquette climbed in the ring on Friday night at GCW’s Joey Janela’s L.A. Confidential with Combat Zone Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion Nick Gage, who hit him over the head with a light-bulb tube. The glass shattered, with a shard cutting into Arquette’s neck, which began to bleed profusely.

Wrestling Death Match Leaves David Arquette Bloody and Injured
David Arquette
David Arquette took on Nick Gage in a hardcore wresting death match, which left the actor with a bloodied face. Back in September, the 47-year old actor revealed that he was making a return to the world of wrestling for a comeback, to take on the trolls. However, this time around he was going the indie route and taking on Gage for a death match that involved numerous props, including a pizza slicer and light tubes, which caused much of Arquette's bleeding. After the fight was over, Arquette left the ring, only to return pretty heated.

Graphic video of the death match between David Arquette and Nick Gage has found its way online. After the fight, the actor can be seen clutching his neck, realizing that he was injured pretty badly. Arquette could be seen with shards of glass lodged in his skin from the light tubes with blood gushing out.

David Arquette Is a Wrestler Now, and a "Death Match" Left Him Brutalized
David Arquette
If you think there are no second acts in American life, just look to David Arquette. The actor, best known for his role in the Scream Franchise, has made a name for himself in recent months as a professional wrestler traversing the independent circuit, which might come as a surprise to anyone who never saw Ready to Rumble. Arquette starred in the 2000 pro-wrestling comedy at around the same time he implausibly became WCW World Heavyweight Champion, an ill-advised development that has often been cited as a death knell for the now-defunct company.

Though his tenure has been going well so far, last night Arquette participated in his first death match — an ultra-violent spectacle in which everything from pizza cutters to light tubes are acceptable weapons — and was left with a serious wound to the neck that almost resulted in the match ending early.

David Arquette Is Coming Back To Wrestling To Get Fans' Respect
David Arquette
David Arquette is fed up with you damn haters, and tells TMZ Sports he's coming back to pro wrestling to shut up everyone who's been dissing his foray into the squared circle 20 years ago. Corey Swanson has problems. He’s almost 30, still lives in his mom’s basement, doesn’t date, and his career amounts to slicing meat in an archaic deli that no one ever comes to – unless they want to rob it. After a chance encounter with a popular former classmate, Corey learns that his high school crush Sheena Halliday will soon be in town for their 10-year reunion. Sheena, now a world-famous athlete, has been dubbed “the Lindsay Lohan of the wrestling world”. She twists and pounds people into oblivion for a living – the same thing she did to Corey’s heart back in high school. Corey puts his broken heart (and punched face) aside,...
