Cher broke out one of her best musical bits last night at the annual Love Rocks NYC benefit concert, taking the stage dressed as Elvis Presley to perform Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis.”
Donning a pristine Presley pompadour wig and a pink shirt with a massive collar, Cher delivered a pristine performance of the 1991 classic as part of her three-song set (which also included “(This Is) A Song for the Lonely” and “Believe”). Beck will bring his symphonic reinvention back to North American stages this summer, with nine concerts across eight cities backed by local orchestras.
This announcement follows Beck’s well-received orchestral performances at Carnegie Hall and other venues last year. “The band got a little bigger since last time,” Beck joked during his two-night Carnegie stand, with the 73-member Orchestra of St. Luke’s onstage. Among other songs, the setlists highlighted work Beck created with his father, composer David Campbell, whose string arrangements on Sea Change and Morning Phase laid the groundwork for these shows.

In The Recruit, Netflix’s high-octane CIA drama, Noah Centineo plays a lawyer turned unlikely protagonist. But being an action star was never something the 28-year-old sought out. For most of his still slightly nascent career, he’s been in a different box.
“The rom-com, romantic interest archetype was pretty much the only thing that I got booked doing from age 15 until To All the Boys and Perfect Date and Sierra Burgess [Is a Loser],” Centineo tells The Hollywood Reporter.
The actor spent the bulk of his 20s playing different iterations of the internet’s boyfriend in those Netflix films before pivoting for The Recruit — a move he says wasn’t actually intentional. Set to receive Scad TVfest’s distinguished performance award on Feb. 6, Centineo is eager to expand his horizons as an actor and producer under his production banner, Arkhum Productions.
Below, he reflects to THR on what led him to The Recruit,...

As we have mentioned repeatedly in the past, anime seem to experience another golden era, with the titles of quality coming one after the other. The combination of manga adaptations, which remain the most dominant source of anime, with the original scripts (Ona) and the novel adaptations highlight the fact, since the industry seem to have no lack of stories and subsequently content, of quality. Furthemore, the isekai genre, which is the most dominant at the moments seems to present one great title after the other while one of the latest trend, that of the homage/parody of the classic elements of anime has also become prevalent, highlighting the smartness and otaku-ness of their creators.
Without further ado, here are the best anime of 2024, in reverse order, in a list that includes titles whose season or the whole series ended in 2024. The order could definitely be different particulalry close to the top,...

Radio Silence, the filmmaking team behind Ready or Not, Abigail, and the two most recent Scream sequels, are gearing up to go into production on Ready or Not 2 – but while Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing that sequel and producing it with Chad Villella, the trio are also producing a feature expansion of Colleen McGuinness’ short film Loser. Deadline reports that Angourie Rice, who also starred in the short, is set to star in the Loser feature alongside Ella Purnell (Fallout), Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country), and Lukas Gage (The White Lotus).
Details on the characters being played by Purnell, Bennett, and Gage have not been revealed, but we know that Rice will be playing Alice, a brilliant but troubled physicist, as she attempts to heal her trauma by using time travel, but gets caught in a twisty, cat-and-mouse game of murder and violence in New York City.

Shnen anime continues to be immensely popular, having legions of fans beyond its intended demographic of young males who enjoy stories of action, adventure, and friendship. It's little wonder that some of the greatest anime titles of yesteryear are shnen, such as Dragon Ball and Naruto, and each year adds even more to the shnen pile. The 2020s have been a great decade for shnen fans who want fresh anime to watch, and 2024 promises to keep up that trend.
The year 2024 boasts a delightful variety of new and returning shnen titles in all four of its anime seasons for fans to try out. Shnen lovers can revisit the Winter 2024 season to find great series they missed, and they can try out some solid shnen series here in the Spring 2024 anime season. Then, fans can make a note of even more shnen anime titles slated to release later this year in summer and fall.

The Biggest Loser was a commercial success but failed many contestants who gained weight back and worse. Research showed former competitors had slower metabolic rates, making weight regain easier. Even Jillian Michaels criticized the show for eliminating contestants and not providing therapy support.
In the years since The Biggest Loser first became a hit, it has been increasingly common for celebrities to talk about their weight battles. For example, Rebel Wilson admitted using Ozempic, Sharon Osbourne bashed stars who lie about how they stay fit, and Lainey Wilson revealed how she lost 70 pounds.
Since fans are curious about how Brendan Fraser has lost weight, it seems like there would be more interest in how successful The Biggest Loser was. After all, many viewers took advice from The Biggest Loser's stars about how they should get in shape. With that in mind, it is a real shame that The Biggest Loser...

When a film can successfully trigger several dozen eye rolls and winces, it officially plunges into cringe movie territory. Several teen flicks usually fall into this category, as perfecting a plot centered around youngsters is no easy feat. While many cringe teen movies have gone on to become cult classics, some of them are just so bad, they're great.
Sometimes it's due to a bad plot, or writing that features shudder-worthy one-liners. Other times, it's due to exaggerated characters. Regardless, the cringiest teen movies often warrant a rewatch, not for critical analysis, but for a hearty laugh or two.
Updated on April 24th, 2024 by Fawzia Khan: Teen movies are essential watches for that demographic, and nostalgic treats for older viewers. First love, new friends, coming of age, and high school shenanigans can be fun to watch, but not all movies get it right. Some teen movies veer into cringe territory with dialogues,...

Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer and her production banner Lab Brew.
In re-upping the deal, the studio has also picked up Here Comes the Dark, a supernatural thriller spec script by Shane and Carey Van Dyke, the duo who co-wrote the 2022 thriller Don’t Worry Darling. Anderson Beer and Lab Brew will produce.
Paramount’s renewal is a vote of confidence in Anderson Beer, who wrote and made her feature directorial debut with the horror movie Pet Sematary: Bloodline for the studio last year. The movie debuted as the No. 1 title on Paramount+ and quickly broke the streamer’s record for the most-watched Paramount+ original movie within the first 30 days of a film’s release in the U.S. Anderson Beer broke through by writing the popular Netflix movie Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

The 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel "It" may be best known for Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise, who made an entire generation seriously terrified of clowns, but it would be nothing without the heart and soul of the Loser's Club. In the 1950s, a group of misfit kids growing up in Derry, Maine are brought together, partially because they don't belong anywhere else, but also because they happen to be targeted by the malevolent force that haunts their town, stealing and murdering its local children. Together, they have to face off against Pennywise to stop the killing once and for all. That's what they think, anyway. But despite defeating Pennywise as children, they're forced to return to Derry as adults and once again confront the terrors of their youth.
As a result of this, "It" has an interesting casting dilemma of finding not only seven...

Shameik Moore admitted to being a "sore loser" on social media after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse lost at the 96th Academy Awards. The actor initially posted that the film was "robbed" on X, formerly Twitter, which led to Moore being called out by some social media users. Despite the upset, Moore later acknowledged the winners and emphasized that Across the Spider-Verse has impacted many lives beyond the awards ceremony.
Too bad Shameik Moore doesn’t have a real-life Spider-Sense, because it probably would have started tingling before he posted to social media last night. Yes, the Miles Morales voice actor himself admitted to being a “sore loser” after his movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, lost out to The Boy and the Heron at the 96th Academy Awards. But when the announcement was made during the ceremony, Moore (@shameikmoore) jumped on X, formerly Twitter, and posted one word:

In 1991, when Debbie Gibson’s underrated third album, Anything Is Possible, stalled at #41 on the charts, the New York Times printed a full-page obituary for her relatively brief career titled “The Perils and Perishability of a Teen Idol.” In just a few short years, Gibson had gone from America’s sweetheart—anointed the youngest artist to write, produce, and perform a #1 hit—to being declared a pop casualty by the nation’s newspaper of record.
Only two years earlier, the Long Island teen had scored her biggest hit, “Lost in Your Eyes,” the lead single from her sophomore effort, Electric Youth. The album is arguably the weakest of Gibson’s four Atlantic releases, largely eschewing the sleek dance-pop and of-the-moment freestyle and hi-Nrg stylings of 1987’s Out of the Blue in favor of ostensibly more mature piano ballads and Motown-lite, which zapped her music of the exuberance that made her debut so charming.

It’s not a regular remake, it’s a cool remake: Paramount has shared the official trailer for their 2024 iteration of Mean Girls, out in theaters January 12th.
Like a set of pink-clad Russian dolls, this new Mean Girls film is adapted from the Broadway musical Mean Girls, which was adapted from Tina Fey’s 2004 comedy classic Mean Girls. Fey wrote the book for the stage version, which landed on Broadway in 2018, and is back as screenwriter for the 2024 film, too.
For the uninitiated: Mean Girls (2024) stars Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, whose notably Caucasian family has just moved back to the states after a stint in Africa. She befriends two fellow outcasts at her new high school, Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), and the three hatch a plan to take down the Plastics, an elite clique led by the infamous Regina George. It doesn’t go over so well.

Postmodern attempts at genre defiance have become de rigueur for pop artists today. In a streaming-dominated world where we can type away on our laptops to ambient hip-hop in the morning, sing along to old yacht-rock hits on our afternoon commute, and dance to Edm at night, what other way is there to keep our attention than to try to give us everything everywhere all at once? We’ve gotten a few attempts to do just that so far in 2023, from Kara Jackson’s quietly rebellious blending of folk and R&b, to Yves Tumor’s kitchen-sink instrumentation, to 100 gecs’s audacious and absurd hyperpop assaults.
Many of the artists who appear on this list, though, no longer seem content to just break down old barriers, as they also seek to shatter interpersonal and emotional ones as well. The oft-cited isolation of modern living, heavily exacerbated by the pandemic, has...

Today’s indictment of Donald Trump quickly became tonight’s punchline for TV’s late-night hosts.
Trump arch-nemesis Jimmy Kimmel said he found out about Trump’s indictment less than two hours before walking onstage, but the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host had no problem filling most of his monologue with Trump jokes, including “The ‘J’ in ‘Donald J. Trump’ now stands for ‘Jail,’ ” and, “He’s going to be read his Miranda Rights. Wait until he finds out that all this time he had the right to be silent.”
Kimmel also had some suggested titles for new reality series Trump might sell, given his circumstances. Among them: The Celebrity Apprehentice, Arrested Developer and, of course, the all-purpose Biggest Loser.
Kimmel had earlier tweeted a video of himself walking out to rapturous applause and, taking a page out of Trump’s book, hugging a flag. “A day many of us thought would never come!

Pennywise is the main antagonist in It, but other characters are just as frightening as the primary villain. Pennywise comes back every 27 years to terrorize the residents of Derry, and the 2017 film, set in 1989, follows the clown's attempt to take down Bill Denbrough and his Losers club. Pennywise is a manifestation of all of their fears, but when they stick together, they're able to defeat him at the end of It. Of course, he later comes back, which is showcased in 2019's It part 2.
While Pennywise's origin story, most explored in King's original novel of the same name, details his supernatural background, It also showcases how dangerous and terrifying human beings can be too. From bullies to abusive parents, there are plenty of other horrifying characters aside from Pennywise the Clown, making King's story that much scarier.

(Welcome to My Most Ridiculous Note, a series of interviews in which animators talk about the weirdest and funniest notes they received from studio executives.)
"Harley Quinn" is one of the funniest, most subversive, and overall best superhero shows around today. What could have easily been just an over-the-stop, crude, and hyper-violent adult cartoon quickly revealed itself to be full of heart and emotion, with great character arcs not just for Harley and Ivy, but the supporting cast, too.
This is a show that takes us inside Batman's mind, gives us the definitive version of the Waynes' murder, and even provides Bruce Wayne's first therapy session (kind of), all while also turning Joker into a loving stepfather, making King Shark an essential DC character, and giving Bane a characterization we could only dream of.
The show was created by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey, all making their debuts in animation.

Received rock wisdom teaches us that punk and prog are sworn enemies. But by the early-to-mid-2000s, genres that seemed worlds apart in the late Seventies had started to creep closer together. The Mars Volta’s psychedelic 2002 post-hardcore fever dream De-Loused in the Comatorium suggested a wondrous hybrid; further underground, a one-off album by an obscure New York band called Gospel made these active ingredients explode. The band quickly frayed, but the LP — The Moon Is a Dead World, which expertly grafts shrieking desperation onto virtuosic synth-driven mini-epics — has become a cult classic,...
