No film captured Shobha's immense talent as this one did. She was simply stunning as the ragpicker (did she get an award? She sure deserved one). Durai, the director (who gave up on cinema to run a grocery store), paints a most realistic picture of the people living in the lowest stratum of society, without stripping them of their dignity. All the characters are memorable, as is the film itself.
