  • Five stories by Brazilian writer Guimarães Rosa: in the hinterland of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, a man fears for his life after having killed one of the dire Brothers Dagobé, outlaws who have great influence over the region; a hitman asks a doctor what's the meaning of a name he has heard; in a farm, the landowner decides to share the use and property of the estate among his employees; a man falls in love with a girl, but she's said to have a dreadful disease; and the local butcher spends half of his time running after his mother and daughter, both utterly mad.—<lukejoplin@infolink.com.br>
  • "Outras Estórias" ("Other Stories") is based on the novel Primeiras Estórias ("Firsts Stories") by the Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa. It takes place in the countryside of Minas Gerais and is divided in five timeless tales: (1) "Famigerado" ("Notorious") - The feared outlaw Damastor Dagobé seeks out an educated man asking the meaning of the word "famigerado" ("notorious"). (2) "Irmãos Dagobé" ("Dagobé Brothers") - A good young man kills Damastor Dagobé in self-defense. His dangerous brothers come to the funeral and the locals believe they will revenge their brother. Out of the blue, the youngster offers to carry the coffin with the brothers to the cemetery and has a surprise. (3) "Substância" ("Substance") - The farmer Sionésio falls in love with the joyful employee Maria Exita that has been raised by his family since she was a child abandoned by her family. However, he is afraid that she might have inherited the disease of her mother. (4) "Nada e a Nossa Condição" ("Nothing and Our Condition") - After the death of his wife, the farmer Tio Manantonio decides to secretly share his lands among his employees, telling his three daughters and sons-in-law that he is selling the real estate. (5) "Soroco Sua Mãe Sua Filha" ("Soroco His Mother His Daughter") - The butcher Soroco spends most of his time chasing his mother and his daughter that are both mad. One day, he decides to send them to Barbacena by train.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
