With season two of Star Wars: Visions coming in 2023, I wanted to look back at each short from season one and celebrate why they’re great. This is Visions Remembered.
Ah, The Twins. Probably the most polarizing of the Star Wars Visions shorts. From what I gather from various reactions, people either love this one or it’s their least favorite. There’s very little in between. The ones who adore it tend to be fans of Studio Trigger’s work, especially since Karre’s design is so similar to Lio, on of the main characters in Trigger’s film Promare. The people who don’t really dig this one usually come down to the aesthetics of The Twins and it’s simply not their taste which is totally fine.
Everything above is exactly why I love The Twins. It’s so out there that people do tend to have...

It’s safe to say that Amazon Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time has finally hit its stride. The first three episodes of its highly anticipated third season have finally hit screens across the world, and immediately raise the stakes for Rand al’ Thor and Co. with threats coming at them from a multitude of directions.
With more of the Forsaken making their on-screen debut while each of the Two River’s former citizens faces struggles of their own, there is a lot to like in The Wheel of Time’s deft weaving of the Pattern established in Robert Jordan’s elaborately written series of fantasy novels.

Throughout 12 years and seasons of "The Big Bang Theory," Simon Helberg, the actor who plays Howard Wolowitz, got to show off his considerable talents, from speaking multiple languages to celebrity impressions. So how did Helberg's vocal stylings make it into the show in the first place? In an interview with Vulture after the show's massively successful sixth season wrapped up, executive producer Steve Molaro spoke to the outlet about a handful of topics, including the romance between Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik), the end of Raj Koothrappali's (Kunal Nayyar) selective mutism around women, and Howard's Cage impression from the season's penultimate episode "The Love Spell Potential."
According to Molaro, the crew behind "The Big Bang Theory" knew that Helberg was a dab hand at impressions, so they simply wrote that into the show. "We had heard him do Nicolas Cage and we always thought that was really funny,...

Suits LA finally delivered on what fans have been waiting for, as Gabriel Macht made an appearance as Harvey Specter in the episode "Batman Returns." The appearance connects Suits LA to the original series, Suits, and it's a reason for fans to be excited. Unfortunately, it's one of the only reasons for fans to get excited right now, as "Batman Returns" is a mostly uneventful episode.
The Moment Everyone's Been Waiting For: Harvey Specter's Return
The flashbacks in "Batman Returns" start with Ted Black visiting the diner where his brother, Eddie, works. While there, Pellegrini (the mob boss Ted is trying to take down) approaches Ted, which makes the lawyer worry about his brother's safety. Later, Ted is pitching for softball, and he's off his game. The shortstop on his team approaches the mound, and it's Harvey.
Ted tells Harvey about his ordeal with Pellegrini, so after the game, Ted,...

In the history of The CW’s Riverdale creating some of the most bonkers moments of television, fans will always tout the first season as its best. Premiering in 2017, the young adult drama takes the classic characters from Archie Comics and puts them in a nostalgic and Lynchian atmosphere while they try to get through the trials of high school. Romance and family problems run rampant, but that wasn’t the only draw to the series. The first episode revolves around the death of Jason Blossom, twin to Cheryl and son of the richest family in town.
As teens are wont to do, these characters take it upon themselves to solve the murder, which brings them to red herrings and false confessions galore.

If you’ve been anywhere near YouTube or Spotify in the last year, you probably know they’re both trying very hard to make video podcasts happen. Podcasting in general has experienced a boom since the start of the Covid pandemic, but video podcasts are what host platforms are really interested in, because video ad spots are more lucrative than audio-only ads.
Both YouTube and Spotify have seen some notable traction with video podcasts, but so far, the format doesn’t appear to have quite taken off.
Not even with one of our most video-forward generations.
According to the latest study from Transistor, a podcast hosting and monetization platform, Gen Z “overwhelmingly chooses audio-only formats” when it comes to podcasts.
76% of Gen Z’ers involved in Transistor’s study said they primarily listen to audio podcasts, while 18% said they listen to a mix of audio and video. Only 6% said they primarily watch video podcasts.

In 2023, after many years in development, a new adaptation of the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons came out via Paramount Pictures, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Unfortunately, the movie underperformed despite positive reviews.
The adaptation was set in the Forgotten Realms and was a standalone, with no connections to the previous Dungeons & Dragons film trilogy released between 2000 and 2012. The film had been in production since 2013 at different studios, including Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures, and with different writers and directors. Although Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was not a big hit, since it came out, the fantasy heist comedy has steadily attracted interest on streaming, and is now back in the charts, per Tudum.
In the week between Mar. 3 and 9, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves returned to the charts, debuting at No. 10 on the U.S. charts. Although the streaming service doesn't provide viewership numbers for specific territories,...

Assassin's Creed is one of the worst video game adaptations of all time, but it has turned into a streaming hit on Max. The 2016 flop starred Michael Fassbender, who was red-hot coming off two excellent X-Men prequels, Marion Cotillard (Inception), and Jeremy Irons (who was in the terrible adaptation of Dungeons and Dragons). It's currently at number two on Max's Top 10 movie list in the United States, and is also in the Top 10 in a few countries worldwide.
The movie is a film adaptation by director Justin Kurzel (The Snowtown Murders) and is based on the popular video game series and follows Cal Lynch / Aguilar (Fassbender), who travels back in time to learn how to be an assassin from his ancestors so he can fight the Templar Knights in the present day. The film is as ridiculous as it sounds, despite the incredible talent appearing on the screen.

The original G.I. Joe toyline was conceived in 1963 by designer Stanley Weston and was meant to serve as a more "masculine" counterpart to the female dolls designed for girls. Indeed, the word "doll" was used by marketers to describe babies or dress-up miniature women, not soldiers or men of action. Hasbro came up with the term "action figure" to refer to its G.I. Joes, and the term stuck. For several generations, children's toys were heavily gendered along those lines, with "girl" toys encouraging motherhood, domesticity, and fashion, while "boy" toys encouraged combat and violence.
By 1982, the G.I. Joe brand had become moribund and was in need of a sprucing up. A new line of toys was launched under the new name G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. These figures were only 3.75 inches high (the older ones were 12 inches) and were composed of 11 cartoony characters. They were American soldiers ... kind of.

Stardew Valleyand Baldur's Gate 3 fans have plenty to celebrate as a talented modder has brought together the two universes. While the normally brutal world of Dungeons & Dragons may seem at odds with the wholesome energy of ConcernedApe's farming RPG, there's certainly a decent amount of overlap between the communities. This is in no small part due to how Stardew Valley and Baldur's Gate 3 place a great deal of emphasis on relationships, both romantic and platonic, so it stands to reason that a crossover would eventually happen.
Shared on Nexus Mods, the appropriately titled "Baldur's Village" is more than a simple add-on that drops a handful of new characters into Pelican Valley: It's close to a full expansion. The mod adds an entire village to Stardew Valley that houses over 20 NPCs, all of whom Baldur's Gate 3 fans will recognize, as well as extra shops, additional special items, and even dynamic events.

Back in the 1980s, one couldn’t enjoy Dungeons & Dragons, He-Man or even the Care Bears without some dude who looked like a lounge singer that isn’t allowed within 1,000 feet of a public school claiming that it was really the handiwork of Lucifer himself.
But as we’ve mentioned before, the so-called “Satanic Panic” never truly went away. Even in the 21st century, fanatics still routinely accuse innocuous pop-culture properties of colluding with the Prince of Darkness, be it the 2024 Olympics’ opening ceremony, the Minions or the songs of Pat Benatar.
Now, in 2025, that same evangelical hysteria has come for Saturday Night Live.
This past weekend’s Lady Gaga-hosted episode included a sketch in which a group of friends dine out at a Friendly’s family restaurant, which Bowen Yang’s character points out still has “100 locations on the East Coast.” But when one of them lies...

"Dungeons & Dragons" is a tricky fantasy brand. Just about everyone knows what it is, and lots of people are quite sure that a role-playing game that requires loads of imagination and a considerable time commitment is not for them -- although, as "Freaks and Geeks" taught us, these folks who think they're anti-d&d are only one campaign away from becoming total converts. This overwhelmingly negative perception some people hold of D&d is likely a big reason why movies based on the game have failed to take off. There's also the fact that the first attempt, 2000's "Dungeons & Dragons," was an unwatchable heap of crap helmed by the shockingly untalented Courtney Solomon. That didn't help at all.
2023's "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" was a different matter entirely. Directed by Jonathan Goldstein and "Freaks and Geeks" alum John Francis Daley, the film boasted a crackerjack cast that included Chris Pine,...

Chris Avellone is the mastermind behind many record-breaking RPGs. He’s known for his work on games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Planescape: Torment, and most crucially, the Fallout series. It won’t be a stretch to say that the post-apocalyptic series wouldn’t have achieved the heights it did without Avellone.

The RPG genre has proven to be a staple in the gaming industry. But, at one point, it had been facing a downward spiral due to a lack of quality releases. However, Avellone believes that all of that came to an end with the release of Baldur’s Gate, which completely shook everything up.

When a beloved film doesn't make enough money at the box office, or even make back its budget, it's always a sad reality. Especially when that movie happens to be a classic in the making. Many different films every year unfortunately don't live up to financial expectations.
While the numbers are never certain, as there are so many factors involved in making a budget, the financial disappointment of a film should never interfere with the audience's feelings. The quality of a film does not always have any indication or connection to the box office.
There Was No Honor Among Thieves Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Despite much audience appreciation for an incredible Dungeons & Dragons film, Honor Among Thieves bombed at the box office. The film failed to garner mass audience appeal despite the name recognition in the title. Despite earning more than its budget, the film needed much more to break even.

This article contains major spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, Episode 1, "Heaven's Half Hour".
Daredevil: Born Again's premiere pleased fans of the Netflix series by reuniting Matt Murdock, Karen Page, and Foggy Nelson in the opening scenes. Episode 1 also confirmed Foggy's story arc would be tragic and heartbreaking.
It's been a wild ride for Deborah Ann Woll leading up to Daredevil: Born Again's premiere. Woll feared for Karen Page's arc after the Netflix original was canceled, even more so during the reboot show's development. In a push to build a brand-new storyline for Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Page was sidelined in the early scripts along with Franklin "Foggy" Nelson (Elden Henson). Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Woll said it was a difficult, uncertain time in her career.

Dungeons & Dragons filmmakers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have been drafted in to write the screenplay for a Monopoly film.
Last time we heard about plans to bring the board game Monopoly to the screen, Margot Robbie’s Luckychap production company had come aboard. This latest effort to adapt the game began when Lionsgate acquired Entertainment One from Hasbro in late 2023, with the Monopoly rights being part of that deal.
Luckychap was behind Barbie, a film which managed to both venerate and subvert Mattel’s toy doll line, so Lionsgate likely moved Monopoly onto the fast track. All in the hope that Robbie and her fellow collaborators could bottle the same lightning twice.
Barbie had plenty to say about gender roles in the 21st century, and Monopoly could say something about issues with late-stage capitalism. With his top hat, monocle and covetous desire to buy up every piece of property he can,...

The Monopoly movie is back on the table, and any worries about a board game adaptation might be put to rest as the directing duo behind the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is joining the project. Created in 1935 and drawing heavily from The Landlord Game, Monopoly is one of the most popular (and frustrating) games of all-time. The game is known worldwide and licensed in over 100 countries in multiple languages, with dozens of versions based on popular IPs. The iconic image of the Monopoly Guy or phrases like "get out of jail free card" and the various game pieces have become part of the cultural lexicon. Despite the fact that there is no true story about the game, that doesn't mean Hollywood hasn't tried to take this popular IP and turn it into a feature film, and they might have finally found the team to bring it to life.

For players of a certain age, the beat ‘em up genre will forever be the pinnacle of gaming. Popularized first in arcades, then cemented at home during the Sega Genesis and Snes era, games like Golden Axe and Streets of Rage were a staple of cooperative action gameplay for a generation. In any form of storytelling, there are bound to be clichés or tropes to ground the narrative within the realm of believability. The Lord of the Rings, based on J. R. R. Tolkien's eponymous novels, is no exception. That said, many fans have chosen to overlook Lord of the Ring's clichés, which include numerous well-known character archetypes in addition to countless other tropes related to worldbuilding.
Considering that the original story is now over seventy years old, it makes sense to suggest that Lord of the Rings was one of the first major novel series to popularize certain archetypes. Character clichés seen in Tolkien's universe have influenced much of the fantasy genre, most notably Dungeons & Dragons and video games like World of Warcraft. While Peter Jackson's film trilogy does inevitably omit some information from the novels, the main characters largely remain faithful to the source material.

It’s a frosty January night in New York City, but Madison Square Garden is red hot. You feel the heat when pillars of flame spit out from black butane tanks that encircle a half-domed stage. The thunder of swag rock is drowned out by the dog-whistle cheers of 20,000 people alive with electricity. Under the tiled roof where Knicks and Rangers banners hang, between walls that often echo with Billy Joel and Taylor Swift, an epic game of Dungeons & Dragons played by Dimension 20 is about to get rolling.

The film opens with a bold caper that intertwines a high-stakes theft with a quest to reclaim a cherished family bond.
Centered on an audacious plan to recover an ancient relic, the narrative sets the stage with a mixture of fantastical elements and moments of sly humor. A renowned thief leads a motley crew through schemes and misadventures, each twist heightening the stakes of a deeply personal mission.
The tone carries a buoyant, irreverent spirit that treats familiar fantasy icons with a wink and a nod. The energy of the script is infectious, injecting mischief and laughter into scenarios that could easily succumb to grandiosity.
This light-hearted treatment of what might otherwise be a solemn tale endows the film with a refreshing crispness, balancing excitement with tender, unforeseen beats of emotion.

The DC Multiverse owes a lot to Greg Berlanti, given that the producer extraordinaire was responsible for the immensely successful DC TV-verse, which aired on CW. This included Arrow, which kicked off the franchise on the small screen, followed by shows like Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and so on.

Berlanti revealed to The Hollywood Reporter how he actually got into DC, and how his being gay had something to do with it. Berlanti also talked about the shows he watched as a child and his geeky interests that might have labeled him as weird.

After a successful 2024 led by Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive is working on a Aaa game based on one of Hasbro’s biggest franchises. The easy assumption is that it will be Dungeons & Dragons, but we think that would be a mistake.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has already set the gold standard for D&d video games, so it makes little sense to compete in the same space. Instead, Hasbro should consider Magic: The Gathering, a franchise with rich lore, diverse settings, and a built-in fanbase. And think about it, Magic would be a perfect match for Saber’s Swarm Tech.

In December, Jake Johnson and Gareth Reynolds announced that their advice podcast, We’re Here to Help, would be coming to a temporary end. The duo had released more than 140 episodes, sometimes devoting five hours a day to recording, and it became unsustainable. Reynolds, a touring comedian, was often Zooming in from the road and Johnson was in the midst of producing a new movie. It made sense to hit pause.
“It kept growing and it got way bigger than I expected,” Johnson says, speaking from his home studio in Los Angeles.

The anime industry spans a variety of genres, but arguably the action genre is the most popular and prominent of them all. By now, action anime has developed a strong appeal among all demographics, not just young boys, making anime like Bleach and My Hero Academia highly mainstream and popular. No matter the demographic, there is a variety of action anime that anyone can connect to.
The best action anime don't just feature well-animated fight scenes and cool combat systems, though. Good action anime series also entertain viewers with deep humanistic themes, strong character arcs, a unique setting/premise, and hard-hitting plot twists that keep anime fans guessing as the action unfolds. Whether the action anime is commenting on its genre, such as in One Punch Man, or helps define it, as in the case of Dragon Ball, there is something for everyone.

Back in the '80s, a wave of paranoia about Satan worshipers permeated the public consciousness, known as "Satanic Panic." Few if any of the claims of abuse and recruitment by Satanic cults were true, but that didn’t stop the public from turning a wary eye on more niche forms of entertainment like Dungeons & Dragons and heavy metal music. While there can be a lot of “Satanic” imagery and lyrics in heavy metal, the idea that listening to it will turn you into a slave of Lucifer himself clearly isn’t true – but it might be funny if it was. That’s the premise of 2015's Deathgasm, a New Zealand horror comedy from Jason Lei Howden, director of Guns Akimbo.

Chris Pine is planning to go Nowhere Fast with Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The movie star and FX's favorite television creator are teaming up for the latter's new crime thriller, a film about a small-town criminal in Texas who unwittingly kills the nephew of his boss. The movie is currently titled Nowhere Fast— as you may have guessed from the first line of this story — and sounds like exactly the sort of dark comedy of errors we've come to love and expect from Noah Hawley.
In a new, exclusive report from Variety, it was revealed that Pine would star in the film slated to be written and directed by Hawley, who is perhaps most well known for his work on Fargo, but also created the criminally under-appreciated Legion, as well as Hulu's forthcoming Alien franchise series, Alien: Earth. Both comic books and pro wrestling have worked hard to overcome the stigma of being low-brow, "childish" form of entertainments, and both have managed to break through in recent years to enter popular culture's mainstream.
Seven of the top 25 highest-grossing movies are MCU movies, each of which grossed more than a billion dollars — also on that list in The Incredibles 2, which, although not based on a comic book itself, is a major throwback to the classic comics of the Silver Age.
Similarly, while pro wrestling hasn't quite return to the heights of the golden ages of the mid-80s and the turn of the millennium, the industry has been going through its biggest boom period in a long time, thanks in part to the three major wrestling promotions in the US — WWE, Aew and Total Nonstop Action — all signing newer and better broadcasting deals for their TV programs in recent years.

There's been talk of a Dungeons & Dragons TV show in the works at some streamer or another for many years. According to Deadline, one finally might go forward at Netflix: The Forgotten Realms.
Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy role-playing game where players sit around a table, roll dice, and pretend to be elves and wizards and warriors and so on. You probably already knew that, but we've gotta be thorough. Forgotten Realms is the name of a hugely popular campaign setting first introduced in 1987. It's the setting for a lot of D&d books, games comics and the 2023 movie Honor Among Thieves, although this show seemingly has no direct connection to the film.
Drew Crevello wrote the pilot for The Forgotton Realms and will serve as showrunner. But the biggest name attached to it is Shawn Levy. In addition to co-writing and directing the billion-dollar Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine,...

Netflix is moving forward with a live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” series titled “The Forgotten Realms.” The show is being developed by Shawn Levy, known for “Stranger Things” and the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine,” alongside writer-showrunner Drew Crevello and Hasbro Entertainment.
The series is set in the famous “Forgotten Realms” campaign setting, which has been a major part of the “Dungeons & Dragons” universe since its introduction in 1987. This fantasy world has been home to some of the game’s most well-known characters and stories, even serving as inspiration for the 2023 film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”
Crevello, who previously worked on “WeCrashed,” wrote the pilot and will act as showrunner. He is also executive producing alongside Levy and Dan Levine under Levy’s production company, 21 Laps. While neither Netflix nor Hasbro Entertainment have officially commented, sources confirm the project is now in development at the streamer.

Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy is said to be making a Dungeons & Dragons live action series for Netflix.
Even before the success of Stranger Things put Dungeons & Dragons back into mainstream popular culture, there were several attempts to adapt the tabletop roleplaying game and turn it into a screen version for a wider audience. There was the classic 1980s cartoon of course, not to mention a less celebrated turn of the century film starring Jeremy Irons.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, backed by Paramount in 2023, went on to earn $205m at the global box office – not quite the sum that the studio would have been hoping for given that is reportedly cost around $150m to make, before the movie’s substantial marketing costs are even considered. It was a fun enough film buoyed by Chris Pine’s cheeky performance, but the numbers clearly didn’t add up...

Netflix is rolling the dice on a new era for Dungeons & Dragons fans as Shawn Levy is set to produce a new series set in the legendary Forgotten Realms. News of the streamer’s foray into the world of questing comes as they prepare to welcome the Chris Pine 2023 movie adaptation, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, to their library on February 26. After previous attempts to bring the franchise to the small screen at Paramount+ were spirited away, it looks like Netflix could be the one to finally deliver a successful D&d universe.

Over the last decade, Dungeons & Dragons has gone from a geeky tabletop RPG to, well, a geeky tabletop RPG with serious skin in the mainstream game. From Stranger Things with its demogorgons and mind flayers, to full-blown blockbuster movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, to award-winning video game epic Baldur's Gate III, D&d has been right at the forefront of a recent years boom in the fantasy space. Deadline reports that Netflix has scooped up The Forgotten Realms, a live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV series from Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Drew Crevello (WeCrashed).
You may recall that the Dungeons & Dragons series was originally developed for Paramount+, which gave it an eight-episode, straight-to-series order in 2023. The project was originally overseen by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice), and Crevello later joined as executive producer and showrunner. However, it didn’t move forward and Hasbro Entertainment began the process of shopping the series elsewhere.
Crevello wrote the pilot for The Forgotten Realms and will serve as showrunner. He will also executive produce alongside Levy and Dan Levine through their 21 Laps Entertainment banner. It’s still early days, but it could launch a Dungeons & Dragons universe for Netflix.

The 1990s was a landmark decade for the anime medium, as it saw anime gain a foothold among viewers around the world. Many of the biggest works from this era are still revered to this day, be it among those who grew up watching them or newer anime fans who've gone back to enjoying the classics. While everyone knows about Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon, there were several other great anime released in the '90s that didn't get nearly as much attention.

These included overlooked mecha classics and fantasy works that were right out of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. While they might not have been as memorable as other anime from that time, these classics can still be revisited today.
