Youth Lagoon, the project of Idaho musician Trevor Powers, is back to announce a new album titled, Rarely Do I Dream, arriving on February 21st via Fat Possum. He’s also announced a 2025 North American tour, and shared the album’s latest new song, “Speed Freak.”

Rarely Do I Dream follows Youth Lagoon’s 2023 comeback LP Heaven Is a Junkyard, which served as Powers’ first album under the Youth Lagoon moniker in eight years. The new project was inspired by a collection of home videos from childhood that Powers revisited, and he employed samples of the tapes throughout the album.

A decade before Bob’s Burgers premiered, creator Loren Bouchard developed the cult series Home Movies, which ran for four seasons, first on Upn and then on Adult Swim. The show follows an awkward 8-year-old boy Brendon Small, voiced by the actor/comedian Brendon Small, who co-created the show before going on to co-create and star in Metalocalypse. Bob’s Burgers star H. Jon Benjamin plays Brendon's soccer coach, John McGuirk. Home Movies has a cruder animation style than Bob’s Burgers and doesn’t have the same tight sitcom plotting. This is because it’s largely improvised with scripts that are rough outlines. This gives it a unique feel and emphasizes the awkwardness of the characters. The dialogue is genuinely strange and uncomfortable in a way even the best writers can’t recreate. Although the style is more rough around the edges, everything that makes Bob’s Burgers special is present in its predecessor.

Maren Morris stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night (November 7th) for a performance of “The Tree” with her friends Mickey Guyton and Brittney Spencer.

“The Tree” appears on Morris’ latest release, The Bridge, a two-song EP which she explained expresses “a very righteously angry and liberating phase” of her life as she steps away from the toxic “family tree” of country music. Speaking about her complicated relationship with the genre in a Los Angeles Times interview that debuted around the time of the EP’s release, she explained: “I thought I’d like to burn it to the ground and start over. But it’s burning itself down without my help.”

You never knew exactly what you would get when "The Twilight Zone" began. The series — produced and largely written by celebrated Emmy-winning writer Rod Serling — was a loose collection of fantastical tales. Some were supernatural, some were science fiction. Some were comedies, and some were scary as hell.

It should come as little surprise that the "scary as hell" episodes are among the most memorable installments of the series. William Shatner's desperate screaming that there's a man on the wing of the plane in "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" was instantly iconic, and repeatedly remade. Agnes Moorehead silently fighting off an invading force of tiny homicidal aliens in "The Invaders" was strange and shocking, and seemingly set the stage for future "tiny monster" horror movies like "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" and "Gremlins."

But perhaps no "Twilight Zone" episode is more overwhelmingly terrifying than the one about a little kid with godlike powers.

Alison Roman, the outspoken food author and influencer, is set to try a new video recipe at CNN Plus.

Roman, the author of cookbooks such as “Nothing Fancy,” will launch a cooking program for the CNN-backed video hub, which is set to launch in the first quarter of 2022. Episodes will show her both in and out of the kitchen, teaching recipes and also venturing out to learn about the ingredients, people and the stories behind what she prepares.

Adult Swim has given a series order to “Birdgirl,” a spinoff of “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law” with Paget Brewster set to lend her voice to the title character. Brewster previously voiced Birdgirl in the original series as well as the recent special “Harvey Birdman, Attorney General,” which aired on Adult Swim in October.

In the new series, after being named CEO of the world’s largest and most non-sensical corporation, Sebben & Sebben, Judy Ken Sebben (aka Birdgirl) has to find a way to maintain her work/superhero life balance. Through the halls of the company headquarters she assembles her Birdteam. By day, they try to drag the company into this century. The Library of Congress has revealed the 25 films being add to the National Registry this year, which include fan favorites like Die Hard, along with culturally important titles like Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. Come inside to check out the full list of movies getting preserved.

While film preservation has progressed greatly over the last several years, getting into the Library of Congress is a great way to ensure a cultural preservation attached to our nation. Every year more films are added and this week we've learned which ones made the cut:

As you know, at the end of every year, the Library of Congress adds 25 films to the National Film Registry. These are seen as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant films” and they will be a protected and preserved part of American history.

There's a great list of films this year that includes a mix of several different kinds of films and it's cool to see there are some timeless classics that made the cut this year. Some of those films include The Goonies, Die Hard, Superman, Memento, Titanic, Dumbo, Spartacus, and more. I provided the full list below. I'm surprised that some of these weren't already added to the registry!

The Library of Congress has announced the 25 movies being added to the National Film Registry for 2017. The list this year is all over the place, which includes movies dating back to the early 1900s and modern classics. Movies like Die Hard, The Goonies, Titanic and Superman have all been selected this year and are considered worthy of preserving under the National Film Preservation Act. Yes, John McClane taking out terrorists at Nakatomi Plaza is worthy of being preserved by the government now.

Under the National Film Preservation Act, the Librarian of Congress names 25 movies to the National Film Registry every year. These movies are said to be "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant. Beyond that, the only other requirement is that the movies must be at least 10 years old. I hope you guys are ready, because April 11th looks to be an incredible day of home entertainment releases for genre fans, especially if you’ve been patiently waiting for the stunning new Phantasm Blu-ray set from Well Go USA, which features every film from the franchise together in one nifty package. Arrow Video has also assembled the first two House movies for a limited edition Blu-ray set that arrives this week, and Severin Films has resurrected the cult classic Cathy’s Curse in HD for the first time ever.

Severin Films is also keeping busy with a pair of other releases—Dark Water and The Other Hell—and Scream Factory is giving both The Vampire and Demented the Blu-ray treatment as well.

John Carpenter’s 1978 “Halloween” stands as one of the best horror films ever made. Now after decades of not being involved in the franchise, the filmmaker, who will executive produce a new installment, has announced that David Gordon Green and Danny McBride have joined the new production.

Carpenter shared the news on his Facebook page, adding that Green and McBride, part of the “Eastbound & Down” team, shared their vision for the movie and blew him away.

“David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are joining the project to complete the creative team,” Carpenter announced. “David and Danny will write the script together and David will direct. I will continue in my executive producer role to consult and offer my advice and feedback as needed. David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…Wow. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it.

If you live stateside and your eyes grew wide at the sight of Arrow Video's UK Phantasm box set, then don't despair, because Well Go USA is bringing The Tall Man to Us horror lovers like never before with their Phantasm special edition box set that contains all five Phantasm films (including the 4K restoration of the original movie) and enough bonus features to please diehard "Phans" of the franchise.

According to Blu-ray.com and Amazon, Well Go USA's Phantasm Blu-ray collection will be released on March 28th. Special features are still in development and have yet to be announced, but below we have the lists of bonus features that have been revealed so far, as well as a look at the cover art featuring The Tall Man with his Sentinel Spheres.

In 2017, Netflix plans to release multiple stand-up specials from comedians like Jim Gaffigan, Neal Brennan, Cristela Alonzo and Bill Burr. But the first one out of the gate comes from Jen Kirkman with her new special “Just Keep Livin’?”, a sequel to her 2015 Netflix special “I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine).” Filmed at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, Kirkman jokes about people who won’t travel alone, getting a tattoo at 41 and male feminists. Anthony Hopkins may be busy building Western-themed amusement parks in “Westworld,” but before he became Dr. Ford he was helping an FBI agent solve a a series of homicides in “Solace.” Lionsgate Premiere released the latest trailer for the psychological drama, which features Hopkins trying to get inside the killer’s mind.

Directed by Afonso Poyart, the thriller follows FBI Special Agent Joe Merriwether (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) after he enlists his former colleague Dr. John Clancy (Hopkins), a retired physician with physic powers, to help him track down a murderer. At first Clancy, who left his old life behind after the death of his daughter and subsequent break-up of his marriage, wants nothing to do with the case. He then changes his mind after seeing a disturbingly violent vision, which leads him to suspect Charles Ambrose (Colin Farrell). Though he soon realizes is that his abilities are no match against the killer.

Shout! Factory jumped on the bandwidth wagon with the launch of a streaming channel back in February 2015, thereby introducing new generations to—or just reacquainting old ones with—Mystery Science Theater 3000, a plethora of Godzilla flicks, and all the Home Movies they could handle. Black Cinema History? We didn't hear a peep about any such thing back in film school. Sometime in the 1980s PBS would broadcast a barely watchable (see sample just below) copy of a creaky silent 'race movie' about a 'backsliding' black man in trouble with the law, the Lord and his wife in that order. The cultural segregation has been almost complete. It wasn't until even later that I read articles about a long-extinct nationwide circuit of movie theaters catering to black audiences, wherever the populations were big enough to support the trade.

John Ford puts a Technicolor sheen on Monument Valley in this second cavalry picture with John Wayne, who does some of his most professional acting work. Joanne Dru plays coy, while the real star is rodeo wizard Ben Johnson and the dazzling cinematography of Winton C. Hoch. With the calendar about to turn to December, one thing you can count on is a ton of Ten Ten/Best of the Year lists beginning to come down the pike. From critics groups to guilds to various organizations and publications, now is the time to start feting the top titles of 2015. This year, the season of giving, as it were, has begun with Sight & Sound publishing their esoteric list of the top 20 releases of 2015. This European film magazine is highly respected and always makes interesting choices, with this year being no exception. You’ll see that list below, though I also want to talk about what might do the best during this section of 2015 as well. With December right around the corner, it’s time for movie critics from around the world to start compiling their best-of-2015 lists, and the highly respected Sight & Sound magazine is kick-starting the process by unveiling its own list of the 20 Best Films of 2015.

Topping the incredibly diverse list of faves this year is Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s The Assassin, a Taiwainese martial arts film that won its helmer Best Director at Cannes when it debuted there earlier in 2015. It’s expected to be the frontrunner for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Oscars, and given that the voting body for Sight & Sound’s list includes 168 critics from all around the globe, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that an acclaimed arthouse pic from a renowned auteur placed so highly.

Mark Rappaport, the film essayist, is long gone from New York and from America, but he’s back with more of his often-acerbic reflections on cinema and society. His five new films, which premiered at the Viennale, are short—most of them under half an hour. Their subjects range from tough guy John Garfield to the French actor Marcel Dalio to the largely forgotten actress Debra Paget, a "kitsch princess," as Rappaport calls her. As always, these are the reflections of a man who has seen a lot of cinema, maybe too much. Rappaport is best known for two feature-length film essays—"Rock Hudson’s Home Movies" (1992), and "From the Journals of Jean Seberg" (1995), both wry views of art and society from unexplored perspectives.
