6/10

Tepid and confusing; I prefered Chuvisco and Darcy Coria than Ankito

Very tepid Chanchada (old Brazilian genre of light-hearted comedies with musical scenes with popular singers that generally are not related to the story). The beginning was very promising, with funny scenes played by Chuvisco. Afterwards, however, the movie became a little confusing, with ups and downs, not very engaging. There are lots of gags and slaptstick humor, with varied quality. The musical scenes are not bad but not particularly inspired either. Ankito has his moments, for sure, but nothing remarkable. Besides Chivisco, I would like to highlight tall and beautiful Darcy Coria (perhaps playing the sexiest character in Brazilian cinema until the 50's!).

A no so good example of the Brazilian "Chanchada".

The "chanchada" was a kind of movie produced in Brazil during the 40's, 50's and mid-60's, rejected by the critics and loved by people. These was musical comedies. In this film we can see some of the most important actors and actresses of the chanchada, as Ankito, Maria Vidal, Wilson Grey, Humberto Catalano and Aurélio Teixeira. And there are musical numbers with the "Divines" Ângela Maria and Marlene and the "Queen of the Musical Theater" in Brazil: Virginia Lane (with her incredible pair of legs!). The theme of the movie is very simple and, despite of the good cast, it's not so funny as other classics, such as "É Fogo na Roupa" or "O Homem do Sputnik".
