Sliff 2018 – And the Winners Are…….
The 27th Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival Awards were presented Nov. 11 and We Are Movie Geeks was there!

Sliff presented seven major filmmaking awards during the course of the 2018 festival:

Charles Guggenheim Cinema St. Louis Awards to Jim Finn, Jane Gilooly, and Karyn Kusama; Women in Film Award to Melanie Mayron; Lifetime Achievement Award to Joe Edwards and John Goodman; and the Contemporary Cinema Award to Jason Reitman.

Shorts Awards

Juries choose the winners of seven awards from among the shorts in competition. The Sliff shorts competition is officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, making the winners in the Best of Fest, Best Animated, Best Live Action, and Best Documentary categories eligible to submit for Oscar® consideration. The 2018 winners:

She was well-known for her long creative partnership with husband Claude Chabrol.

French actress Stéphane Audran, who starred in The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie and Babette’s Feast, has died aged 85.

Their son, actor Thomas Chabrol, told Afp: “She had been ill for some time. She had been in hospital for 10 days and she had returned home. She died peacefully at around 2 am [on Tuesday 27 March]”.

The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie and Babette’s Feast both won best foreign film at the Oscars. She won best actress at the Baftas for the former and was nominated again for the latter.

American Horror Story: Kathy Bates Returns!
Kathy Bates is headed back to the twisted, wonderful and downright horrific world of American Horror Story.

Series co-creator, Ryan Murphy confirmed the exciting news of Bates' return to Entertainment Weekly.

“Kathy and Sarah Paulson have a lot of great stuff to get to do,” says Murphy.

“So, with Evan Peters, the three of them are the leads this year.”

Yes, that's confirmation enough that our three leads this year will be Paulson, Peters, and Bates.
