        Five stories

One can forgive Cesc Gay for this film, which seems to be about an idea gone bad. Since this DVD has such bad sound, one can't judge what it might have looked like in a bigger screen format.

The idea seems to be intriguing, if actually, nothing comes of it, because none of the vignettes presented hold our attention long enough. The first one, presents a newly married couple on their honeymoon. The second involves a magician who might know a lot about the prostitute that comes to visit him. The third one presents a photographer obsessed by a woman sitting on a bench across the street. The fourth shows two guys, one of whom might be gay. The last story deals with a man that wants to commit suicide and is visited by an agent of the "death assisting" firm that charges an exorbitant sum to carry on the plans. Then, mysteriously, we are taken again to the beginning and meet the honeymoon couple, but with a different ending.

Someone mentioned here the film seems to be a tribute to Jim Jarmusch, but maybe the grainy photography is the only link. Director Cesc Gay, went to make "Krampack", and "In the City", both of them better realized films. In here, working with Daniel Gimelberg, as his co-director, he shows the promise we saw in his later work.

"Hotel Room" was a nice effort that didn't quite make it.

        Funny and interesting independent film

Hotel Room is one of those films which are produced with more imagination than resources. Anyway, the quality standard is quite acceptable, and the interesting combination between independent filmmaking a la Jim Jarmush and magic realism makes Hotel Room an attractive product.
