The Barcelona-set feature “La nit no fa vigília” and Argentine film “Hidden City” (“Ciudad Oculta”) won the Malaga Festival Work in Progress awards for Spanish and Latin American projects on Friday.

“La nit no fa vigília” (which roughly translates to “The Night Does Not Keep Watch”) centers on a young man who lives with and cares for his aging, frail grandmother, but still finds time for a nocturnal social life. It was among the frontrunners to win at the awards ceremony.

A joint project from a student collective comprising Laura Corominas Espelt, Laura Serra Solé, Clara Serrano Llorens, Gerard Simó Gimeno, Ariadna Ulldemolins Abad and Pau Vall Capdet, “La nit no fa vigília” also won the industry magazine Cine y Tele prize.

Francisco Bouza’s “Hidden City” follows a young soccer player in Buenos Aires who must undertake a journey across the city of the dead in order deal with the loss of a friend.

One thing that makes Big Brother very different from many other reality shows is that it never has a reunion special at the end of a season. Big Brother has been on the air for over 20 years, and the show hasn't included a reunion special for any of the seasons, even the ones with the most drama. The regular TV season has come to a close and while some finales have got us talking more than others (like that heartbreaking and awesome "House" ep), we still have a lot  to say, so this week, we've selected a few series and will compare their 2010 season ender to their 2009 season ender.

"Zebras" (2009): The case: A mother was murdered in Central Park, and the case is compromised after Stuckey accidentally contaminates evidence.

The characters: Stuckey's careless mistake allowed for the suspect, Harrison, to go free, much to the frustration of the Svu squad. Elliot ripped into him and the devastation Stuckey felt was clear. Bodies, which indicated Harrison as the killer, started turning up, but it wasn't that simple.

On the second part of “Over There”, Olivia and Walter are able to save Peter and prevent him from destroying our world, but at great costs! One member of the Division is left behind!

William Bell is out to stop a war and prevent the destruction of our universe. It appears that his intentions are good. With his help Walter is able to reopen the door into our universe. He is the one that helps the three get back home.

Bell also lets Walter know that he did remove arts of his brain because Walter wanted him to. Apparently Walter did not like the man he was becoming. Maybe he knew he was turning evil, sort of like Walternate. Now it all makes a bit of sense, don’t you think?

Without his memories or keen working brain, Walter is not the man he once was. He is a gibbering fool most of the time,...

This Thursday marks the season finale of Fringe, which finds Leonard Nimoy returning as William Bell for Episode 2.23: Over There, Part II. In this thrilling conclusion to what has been a stellar season, sacrifices will be made and both universes may never be the same again after Walter and Olivia visit the "other side". Leonard recently joined us for a conversation about this climactic season finale. Here's what the esteemed actor had to say:

You cast your votes, and now we have the results. Before we reveal the winners, let's take a look at some of the trends that emerged.

Almost all of the characters were from films and television shows that made their debut after the year 2000. A few of the exceptions include Kerry Weaver from ER, and the ass-kicking ladies from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

While most of the characters were from Us productions, a fair amount came from international shows, including our top two characters (from the UK show Skins).

Also notable was the fact that some of your favorite characters, the leads from Xena: Warrior Princess (which ran from 1995-2001) and Idgie Threadgood from the film Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), were never officially presented as lesbian or bisexual.

On Thursday, the covers were taken off PlanetSolar, a multi-hulled vessel, powered entirely by up to 500 square metres of photovoltaic solar panels. It is considered to be the world's largest solar boat.

The 31-meter-long and 15-meter-wide craft is expected to be able capture 103.4 kW of solar energy to drive its engine which apparently only needs 20kW, to achieve an average speed of eight knots (15kph or 9mph). Although it is hoped it can also attain a top speed of roughly twice that. While it is impressive that the PlanetSolar can achieve all its propulsion with just sunlight, at those speeds the global circumnavigation planned for 2011 might take a wee while to complete.

The 60 tonne catamaran (or is that trimaran?) has cost 18 million euro ($24.4 million Usd) to create at the Knierim Yacht Club in Kiel in northern Germany and will be launched waterside next month with sea trials due between June and September.

It's been a while since we've heard actor Ewan McGregor ("Trainspotting," "Moulin Rouge!") speak in his native Scottish accent, yet so much remains enigmatically unfamiliar about his nameless character known simply as "The Ghost" in director Roman Polanski's "The Ghost Writer." Adapted by former journalist Robert Harris from his own novel, this fantastically nutty political thriller stars McGregor as an apolitically minded punch-up artist assigned to finish the memoirs of a suddenly disgraced former British Prime Minister (Pierce Brosnan), currently stuck in American exile while awaiting war crime charges for his use of "heightened interrogation" procedures. Like many a Hitchcockian everyman ensnared by conspiracy, McGregor's "Ghost" soon realizes through his own cat-killing curiosities and investigation that he has every right to be paranoid. I met McGregor at the Waldorf Astoria to discuss government corruption, Polanski's eccentric working methods, the longest he's ever felt trapped somewhere, and why he'll likely never read this interview.

So, Dollhouse and Ugly Betty aren’t coming back. Both shows have been canceled and soon their respective casts will be just a bunch of unemployed actors. But before they start making those “Will Emote for Food” signs, how about we help them land their next gigs.

While I’m certain the talented casts of both shows will find gainful employment in no time, it can’t hurt to make a few suggestions. Short of each landing their own new series, many of these fine thespians would make a welcome addition to existing shows. Let’s recast a few.

Taking it on the Chinn

Oscar-winning producer Simon Chinn was last week recalling the moment he took to the Kodak Theatre podium 12 months ago to collect the award for his superb documentary Man on Wire. He was joined by his director James Marsh and by the film's French star Philippe Petit. In an exclusive charity Q&A session, Chinn revealed to me some of the tensions behind the production but also some of the secrets of one of the great Oscar acceptances of all time. After a magic trick with a lucky coin, Petit, it will be remembered, then took the Oscar statue and balanced it on his chin as the music played to usher the winners off stage. "We had to ask special permission ahead of the awards for the Academy to allow Philippe up if we won," says Chinn.

There are lots of great clips in Gool Theater, starting with one of the best weeks As the World Turns has seen in a long time. The tension between Reid and Luke increases as Luke and Noah’s relationship continues to falter, but will Reid agree to perform Noah’s surgery? Meanwhile, Luke gets some really bad news about Damian.

It’s billed as a movie, and even has an IMDb page, but this looks like a video-taped stage play, minus the live audience. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. After all, when Lars Von Trier did it with Dogville & Manderlay, we lauded him.

Maybe I’m just out of the loop, but these filmed Christian-themed stage plays seem to becoming all the rage these days, thanks in part to the ease in distribution that DVD and the web provide. I’ve seen quite a few trailers.

This one stars Robin Givens and Clifton Powell, and is directed by Emmbre Perry; notice how the DVD cover to the left emphasizes dude’s last name: Perry, in big bold letters. What do you think that’s about? By the way, they’re brothers.

The last 24 hours have been rough for fans of Spider-Man. Not necessarily because of yesterday's news that Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire have abandoned the ship called Spider-Man 4, but because every blog has been filling its feed since the announcement with one Spidey-related post after another. I'm guilty of it, elsewhere and now here, where I'd like to roundup the best ideas for the future of the franchise, which Sony plans to reboot for a grittier, The Dark Knight-esque series, to begin in 2012.

Earlier today, Steven requested that the next Spidey movie not retell the character's beginning. "There are monks who have lived in silent seclusion for most of post-pubescence who can recite the Spider-Man origin story better than their Psalms," he wrote.

So if the studio is going to continue the franchise with the assumption all moviegoers are familiar with the origin, what direction should it go in?...

Press Tour, the bane of the Television Critics Association members' waistlines, kicks off again with panels on Saturday (Jan. 9) in Pasadena, Calif.

The networks and their dutiful stars come out for the biannual event not only to talk about the upcoming shows, but also to show off their duds (clothes, that is) and do a little publicist-approved partying.

Zap2it will be on hand from morning till late at night to bring you the latest info. Yes, it's a rough life we lead, but there are some perks. Here's a preview of what we're looking forward to for the TCA Winter 2010 Press Tour:

1. "Vampire Diaries" panel and "Bloody Mary" cocktails to follow - It's not up to "Twilight" levels yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if a few enterprising pre-teens crashed the Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley party. Plus, the cocktail session later allows us to mingle with the vamps...

There hasn’t been a serial horror story in quite some time. Probably John Saul’s Blackstone Chronicles is the most recent. But there is a new kid on the block now, Rick Florino’s Dolor, and this ain’t your mama’s serial horror.

Set in the mysterious town of Dolor, the ten-part series will unfold slowly, introducing the reader to Dolor’s various denizens as well as the town itself. Because from the beginning, with "Lila", the reader knows something has gone terribly wrong in Dolor; and as the ten diaries are read by an FBI agent investigating what happened in Dolor, the reader will also discover what happened and who (or what) might be responsible.

Dread Central recently had an opportunity to chat with the creator of Dolor: Lila (review here) and discovered that Rick Florino is something of an enfant terrible and an author people should take note of.

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

With the last name of Schwartz, it's no doubt that my Sick Day Stash preference happens to be "Spaceballs." After having "May the Schwartz be with you!" screamed at me by seven year olds on my school bus for weeks on end, I knew it was time to send my mother to the video store and get my first taste of Mel Brooks. And yes, I was young enough to still be single digits in the 90s.
