Peter Wolf, has always been one of the great rock & roll raconteurs, ever since his days as the loudmouth singer of the J. Geils Band. But the Boston blues madman has finally written the book everyone always hoped he would write, with Waiting on the Moon: Artists, Poets, Drifters, Grifters, and Goddesses. It’s a music memoir like no other — instead of chronicling his rock-star career, Wolf tells stories about the characters he met along the way, from Muddy Waters to Andy Warhol, from Alfred Hitchcock to Bob Dylan. “I...

Would you trust the Hold Steady, which Rolling Stone once dubbed “America’s best bar band,” with your kids? Well, America’s best bar band sure hopes so. The group has collectively written Stay Positive, an illustrated children’s book inspired by the title track of their 2008 album. The 32-page book, which arrives Oct. 1, follows an armadillo on his path to enlightenment, as it makes friends and learns to maintain a positive mental attitude. Cartoonist and comic book author David “El Dee” Espinosa illustrated the book.

Frasier is a snob. It's a well established aspect of his character that made for some of the best jokes of the original sitcom's 11 seasons. But with the new "Frasier" revival series on Paramount+, something's changed.
Back when the show first debuted in 1993, Frasier's elitism was immediately played up as one of his major character flaws, and treated as a source of unending comedy. The clash of tastes between him and his blue collar retired cop father, Martin (John Mahoney), basically provided the central "sit" out of which the "com" arose.
There was also a heart to both the character and the show, which frequently became apparent as a result of the conflict between Frasier and his dad. For example, when the former threw out the latter's beloved recliner because it clashed with his apartment's more refined decor, Martin went on an extended monologue about why the chair meant so much to him,...

On Feb. 13, 1998, New Line unveiled The Wedding Singer in theaters in time for Valentine’s Day audiences. The Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore rom-com went on to earn 123 million globally at the box office. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below.
We’ve all heard him, usually at weddings and bar mitzvahs where alcohol often blurs true appreciation of his talents. Song stylist extraordinaire, he has the uncanny ability to make virtually any song, even “In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida,” sound like “Hot Hot Hot.”
Now, thanks to Adam Sandler, he has been finally given his due in The Wedding Singer, a (for the most part) winning romantic comedy that plays off the per former’s sweet, loopy personality. Despite a saggy middle stymied by sappy good intentions, the picture stands as Sandler’s best effort.
Demographically, expect some thing of a trade-off. While all the lovey-dovey stuff might turn off some of his partying young male fans,...

How Cell Phones Would Have Ruined Most Of Our Favorite Movies
By
Alex Simon
If you’re a pop culture maven, most likely it can be agreed that the modern cell phone can be traced back to two classic TV series of the 1960s: Star Trek and Get Smart. Captain James Tiberius Kirk and his USS Enterprise crew were always armed with their “communicators” when traveling abroad on a distant planet. They were palm-sized devices with covers the flipped open, providing instant connection with the orbiting space ship. This design was aped, no doubt, by former Trekkies for the classic “flip phone” design that ruled the high-tech roost in the late 90s and early millennium.
Secret Agent 86 Maxwell Smart had his shoe phone, surely the most creative (and ridiculous) example of technology ever invented by someone who was most likely thought to be a creative and scientific genius. However, it...

With the release of yet another terrible Adam Sandler movie in Grown Ups 2 (you can read my review here) it would be easy to stick the knife in and trot out every awful movie the much-criticised comic actor has ever made. But I figured I should head in a different direction and present 10 Sandler movies that actually don’t suck.
It’s important to remember that it wasn’t always this grim for Sandler. At one point he was a star of Saturday Night Live, which opened doors up to bigger and better opportunities. And throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s Sandler was a bankable name guaranteeing that your hard earned dollars would be well spent on something funny. But then sometime during the mid- 2000’s Sandler unfortunately stopped caring about producing quality content and nowadays is a guarantee that the movie is a steaming pile of dung.

Eminem is rapping some interesting allegations, claiming he ‘nailed J. Lo’ in a new song! The real Slim Shady with Jenny from the Block? Say it isn’t so!
Eminem, who is set to release his eighth studio album later this year, is featured in fellow rapper Tony Touch‘s new song ”Symphony in H,” and his raps reveal more than we ever wanted to know about his sexual history — like, did Eminem really “nail” Jennifer Lopez?
Eminem Raps He ‘Nailed’ Jennifer
The rap superstar has some interesting rhymes on the Tony Touch track. He even claims that he uses his Oscar (that he won for his song in 8 Mile) as a “door stop.” That’s no way to treat an Oscar, Eminem!
Don’t ask me wassup with the hoes, I’m still working the kinks out/ Love stinks, that explains all this anger that’s spilling out, and...

Eminem's return to the rap game is official.
The 40-year-old rapper teased "Symphony in H" this week with a 1:30 minute clip. The track is Em at his finest -- quick and harsh, over a catchy beat. "Love stinks, that explains all this anger that's spilling out, and I ain't chilling out / Got an Oscar, but I'm still a grouch," Eminem raps in "Symphony in H." Take a listen to the teaser above.
The song reportedly first leaked on DJ Tony Touch's Sirius radio show. "Symphony in H" will make its full debut on Touch's upcoming mixtape, "The Piece Maker 3: Return Of The 50 Mc's," hitting stores July 9.
Marshall Mathers, who is expected to release his own album later this year, took to Twitter to publicize the track.

Love stinks for (almost) everybody in the next episode of "Real World Portland" on MTV. In Tuesday's "Sins of the Flesh (eaters)," Jessica has problems in her relationship with Tyler, Averey and Johnny fight after a possible flirtation at the bar, and Marlon wrestles with his faith after a night of casual sex.
It's all very dramatic. Preview the drama now with three video clips from the episode.
First up, Averey gets love advice over the phone, who is thinking of moving to Massachusetts to live with or near Johnny.
Granny is a smart woman, telling the girl not to move for a boy -- especially since she has done it before.
How smart exactly are we talking about? Judging from this next video, Averey's grandmother knows her all too well. And Averey might want to rethink this whole Johnny thing.

At the outset, this week’s Nashville seems like a happy affair. Scarlett is set to make her Grand Ole Opry debut, Rayna is ready to announce her new label and Gunnar is building buzz about his new song. Even Juliette – who’s seriously not thrilled to pay off Dante for a blackmail sex tape – is ready to hand over the cash and watch the problem fade away in time for the CMAs.
Nothing terrible happens… until lots of terrible things happen. Quickly. In ways that will only lead to even more terrible things happening. Did I mention the dead bodies?...

By now you’ve probably seen the Kid Cudi music video for the Fright Night 3D remake - a future B-Sides in the making, no doubt. But how does it compare to the J. Geils Band’s theme song from the original Fright Night?
J. Geils Band made quite a splash in the early Eighties with hits like “Centerfold” and “Love Stinks” and “Freeze Frame”. Lead singer Peter Wolf left the band in 1983 to pursue a rather unsuccessful solo career. Seth Justman took over the vocals for the band’s only album before breaking up in 1985.

Jason Bateman, who has his latest comedy The Change Up, hitting theaters today, has had a career resurgence based on his hilarious comedic performances. Few young folks would remember him from the sequel Teen Wolf Too, where he replaced Michael J. Fox. Now he and Jimmy Fallon on ‘Late Night’ decided to recreate a scene with Fallon from the film. He showed a clip of Bateman intimidating a woman at school and then re-did it with Fallon as the old lady. It was … well, about as good as the original actually.
Neither could quite stay in character, and we couldn’t help laughing along as Fallon overacted both the disdain at Bateman’s character and then ultimately the fear as he “wolfed” out a bit, intimidating her. It didn’t quite make us want to go watch ‘Teen Wolf Too,’ but it did make us want to see them recreate...

Jason Bateman is known now as a go-to guy for solid, hilarious comedic performances. But he's long been a staple of great cinema, as evidenced by his star turn in 'Teen Wolf Too.' Wednesday night's "American Idol" was supposed to be all about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But leave it to Jimmy Iovine's sleepwalking producers and Nigel Lythgoe's showbiz pizzazz to make it rock softer than an Air Supply acoustic album.
That's not to say the top nine of "American Idol X: Pay No Attention to the Man Behind the Curtain" didn't give it their all and then some. This may go down as the sweatiest "Idol" episode ever. Did Idolland's air conditioning break, or is there a fire within these contestants causing them to look like James Brown on Pcp?
As an added challenge this week, producers handicapped the girls by forcing them to wear Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. collection of leopard-print diapers and silk tube-top jumpsuits. I guess they really don't want the Season 10 "Idol" to have a vagina. Paging Gloria Steinem!

There's always a weird balance with shows on "Glee" that don't feature Sue Sylvester. I find myself walking away not realizing I missed her or writhing in agony from the loss. Generally, the latter happens when it's a Will Schuester centric episode, but last night I got the former. I suppose they've done enough with Sue's "Love stinks" mentality and decided to forgo her contribution for this episode. Although, to be honest, I'd have love to seen how one spends Valentine's Day when one is one's own spouse.
But without Sue, this episode of "Glee" flourished. Love was in the air with the kids at McKinley and Dalton. First up Blaine asks Kurt for some love advice about a guy; Kurt assumes that the guy Blaine is asking advice for is Kurt and basically agrees with any suggestions that he might like. The phones at Billable Hours & Sons were blowing up this week. If a celeb wasn't being nominated for a Golden Globe or SAG Award, he was getting divorced—or, in Michael C. After a 15-year hiatus from acting, Rosie Cosch is back doing what she loves. In mid-June, she saw a casting notice on BackStage.com for "Love Stinks," a one-act play in New York's Midtown International Theatre Festival, and she thought it would be a great way to get back into the industry. Cosch hoped that getting cast would be an opportunity to network and build a new—or, in her case, second—career. The Westchester County, N.Y., native had always thought she was an actor: putting on plays in the neighborhood as a little girl, running through the house singing songs from "Annie," participating in school productions from grammar school through college. But her family had strong ideas about her going into the established family fashion business."My father was a designer," Cosch explains. Love stinks: Dimension Films tells us about the film: In the tradition of Catcher in the Rye, and starring Michael Cera (also of the Oscar® winning film, Juno, and Superbad), Youth In Revolt is a coming-of-age comedy that puts a fresh and outrageous stamp on a tale of adolescent obsession and rebellion. Based on the acclaimed novel by C.D. But family, geography and jealous ex-lovers conspire to keep these two apart.

Bigfoot has two versions of 'Love'
Bigfoot Entertainment is putting its mouth where the money is, making two films with separate versions in both Mandarin and English in an attempt to capture the fastest-growing moviegoing audience in Asia.
Bigfoot executives promoting the dual-language films at AFM said the Cebu, Philippines-based company is now looking for two casts, one Chinese-speaking, one English-speaking, for a remake of Jeff Franklin's 1999 cult classic comedy Love Stinks.
Love will start shooting in early 2007 at the fledgling production center in Cebu and will be directed by Bigfoot chairman and German Internet entrepreneur Michael Gleissner.
Bigfoot CEO Kacy Andrews said both casts would gather at Cebu and share wardrobes and shoot scenes back-to-back in the films' two languages. Crews will make efficient use of lighting and sets this way, Andrews said.
"We are an international company especially interested in Asia and betting on China's growing audience in particular," Los Angeles-based Andrews said. "Doing dual-language productions is a natural. One cast shoots, then steps out, then the another steps in to do it in the second language."...

NL cleans up with 'Unusual' comedy spec
New Line Cinema has picked up the romantic comedy spec It's Not Unusual from veteran television writer-producer Jeff Franklin for mid-six figures. Described as an offbeat and poignant coming-of-age romantic comedy, Unusual is set in 1969 and centers on a high school boy who falls madly in love with his beautiful housekeeper. The project will be produced by Franklin and Bill Strauss through his Billy Goat Prods. label. It will be overseen at the studio by New Line production execs Mark Kaufman, Matt Moore, Janis Chaskin and Luke Ryan. Franklin, whose big-screen writing credits include Summer School and Love Stinks, is best known for the string of small-screen successes he has had as a writer and producer. He was showrunner for the long-running ABC sitcom Full House and created the ABC series Hangin' With Mr. Cooper. Franklin's deal was brokered by attorney Mark Bisgeier. Attorney Phillip Rosen repped Strauss.
