Bob Iger Wants Strikes To End “Quickly”; Soft-Talking Disney CEO “Personally Committed” To A Deal As WGA Strike Hit 100 Days
Image
“It is my fervent hope that we quickly find solutions to the issues that have kept us apart these past few months,” Bob Iger said Wednesday on Disney’s Q3 earnings call about the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA strike. “And I am personally committed to working to achieve this result.”

The words and tone of the CEO’s words represent a drastic shift from what he said dismissively about the WGA strike and the then-looming actors strike just a month ago.

Of course, in the midst of the company’s 100th anniversary, today earnings results and call come on the same day that the scribes’ 2023 strike surpasses the 100 days that the 2007-2008 strike lasted and heads into almost uncharted territory. At 153 days, the 1988 writers’ strike remains the longest labor action in the WGA’s history, for the time being.

“Nothing is more important to this company than its relationships...

Double Strike: Actors Join Writers on First Day of Historic Hollywood Labor Stoppage
Image
While ‘90s or musical-themed pickets may have helped maintain WGA morale during the first 73 days of their strike, the writers got a much bigger lift on Friday as actors joined them on lines across Los Angeles.

The first official day of the historic SAG-AFTRA strike brings with it the promise of A-listers from the 160,000-member group — or, at the very least, union leader and ascendant folk hero Fran Drescher — as two of Hollywood’s most significant labor groups picket alongside one another for the first time since 1960. Demonstrations were again held at 10 sites around L.A., on a day with temperatures set to climb to 95 degrees in some parts, though Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery were among the bigger targets for crowds. (In New York, where members of WGA East have been picketing for nearly three months, actors joined writers at robust lines in front of Netflix HQ and the Paramount offices in Times Square.

Jennifer Aydin, Rachel Fuda, Danielle Cabral, Teresa Giudice, Melissa Gorga, Dolores Catania, and Margaret Josephs in The Real Housewives of New Jersey (2009)
When you're on The Real Housewives of New Jersey and learning how to swim, of course you get the hunkiest swimming lessons instructor ever. At least that's what happens for Teresa Giudice on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. In the episode airing tonight, "Let Them Eat Cake," Tre meets Lee for some lessons in the pool. "I can swim, like at my own place," she tells him. Lee looks like Thor. Yes, there's a man bun, tattoos and ripped body involved here. "I'm not usually into blondes, but you can't really get passed the pecs," Melissa Gorga says in the preview above. Yes, Melissa and Danielle Staub seem to be enjoying Lee more than Teresa. Steve Mnuchin’s Actress Wife Apologizes For Her “Let Them Eat Cake” Instagram Moment

Watch Louise Linton’s First Marie Antoinette Moment From 2007 ‘CSI: NY’ Episode (Video)
Louise Linton, the actress wife of U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin who has come under fire this week for her “Let them eat cake”-like online tirade over her designer-tagged Instagram photo, is no stranger to Marie Antoinette moments. One of the Scottish-born actress’ very first Hollywood roles was in a 2007 episode of “CSI: NY” in which she played a French tutor who meets an untimely end at a charity costume party where she dresses as — you guessed it — Marie Antoinette. Her character, Simone DeLille, is led to a decidedly not-fake guillotine by her teenage student — played by...

Kate Middleton Is a Beauty in Blue for Solo Trip to Luxembourg
Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Adrian Scarborough, and Alison Steadman in Let Them Eat Cake (1999)
Let them eat cake! For Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton's most recent solo trip to Luxembourg Wednesday, that was certainly a theme of the day as the royal mother of two was presented with a multi-tiered cake in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the treaty of London, which secured Luxembourg's independence and neutrality in 1867.  Middleton arrived in the country in honor of the occasion, dressed elegantly as usual in a powder blue coat by one of her favorite designers, Emilia Wickstead.  During the packed day, the duchess enjoyed a visit to the capital city's museum of modern art, Mudam, alongside Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Princess Stephanie....

The Manipulative Monarch of "Farewell, My Queen"
We're celebrating Marie Antoinette for a few more days this week. Here's abstew - Editor

The legendary figure of Marie Antoinette has been the subject of gossip and infamy for over 200 years now. Although most scholars agree that all we may think we know about the excessive queen is mostly a misunderstanding. Even the most well-known phrase attributed to her, "Let them eat cake!", has been debunked as never actually been spoken by her. Even in her own time, there were pamphlets spread around France accusing her of infidelities with both men and women. At her trial, she was accused of staging orgies at the Palace of Versailles and even committing incest with her own son. Playing off of these rumors, French director Benoît Jacquot's 2012 film about Marie Antoinette, Farewell, My Queen, based on the novel by Chantal Thomas, invents a lesbian relationship between the Queen and a duchess at court.

Candace Cameron-Bure & Raven Symone Argue Over Lesbian Wedding Cake
Let them eat cake, or not? That's the question that sparked a heated debate between Candace Cameron Bure and Raven-Symone on yesterday’s episode of "The View." The two former child stars discussed a recent incident that involved an Oregon wedding cake company refusing to provide services to a lesbian couple. But was this a decision based on the constitutional right of freedom of association, or was this a prime example of discrimination based on sexual orientation? The former "That’s So Raven" has been an activist for the Lgbt community since 2014, when she told Oprah she was in relationship with a woman. Meet Raven-Symone's Girlfriend -- She's a "Top Model" Alum! "The Oregon law bars businesses from discriminating against sexual orientation, race, disability, age or religion," Symone argued, "and to me, it’s the same exact thing that they did back in the day saying that black people...

Kelly Osbourne rejects Lady Gaga birthday cake gesture
Kelly Osbourne has appeared to reject Lady Gaga's gesture of sending her a birthday cake, which Digital Spy revealed earlier tonight.

Gaga presented Sharon Osbourne with a cake for her daughter as a peace offering backstage at the latest X Factor results show in London.

Kelly addressed the matter on Twitter tonight (October 27) by questioning why Gaga would publicly offer the birthday cake to Sharon and not deliver it to her in private.

"Not to be ungrateful but why would you send me a birthday cake via my Mother in a country half the would away? #JustSendItToME #LoveNotWar (sic)," Osbourne tweeted.

She went on to write: "You are so far behind you think you are first!... I live for a #Cause not for the #Applause!!!!!!!"

Kelly continued: "I like desert, but i prefer the truth… it's sweeter.. 'Let them eat cake' #MarieAntoinette."

Her tweets led to a reaction from Gaga,...

Once a Material Girl, always a Material Girl. Madonna celebrated turning 55 in a fashion befitting the famously dramatic, often outlandish pop star -- that is, with an over-the-top French Revolution-inspired costume bash in the South of France on Saturday, Aug. 17! The guest of honor channeled, naturally, Marie Antoinette, the Gallic country's last queen who memorably said "Let them eat cake!" before later meeting her demise at the guillotine. Saints Row IV Impressions
The Oval Office with purple lighting? Looks like the Saints have taken the White House, or as they have renamed it, The White Crib. That is where my adventure began as President of the United States. I am taken on a sort of cinematic tour of the White Crib, and there are strippers, champagne, and a Tiger. What else would you expect from the Saints?

Humor is alive and well in the Saints Row universe. Steve Jaros, who wrote the first 3, came back for the fourth. My favorite quote from the demo was, "Tell my wife... I have another wife."

But let's get to the demo.

I am on my way to a press conference to address the people, but a few things hapen along the way. I'm asked by my Vice President Keith David, voiced by (you'll never guess) Keith David, which bill to pass because only one stands a chance in congress,...

Gwyneth Paltrow at an event for The Jump (2019)
Say What?! Another Reason to Hate Gwyneth
Gwyneth Paltrow at an event for The Jump (2019)
Why do people love to hate Gwyneth Paltrow? Is it because she is so tall and pretty and blonde and she married a British dude with good teeth (but a bland band) and we are all super jealous? No! Well sort of. But really it’s because she says stupid, ignorant things, and seems to be unaware of the fact that there are people in the world who aren't multi-millionaires with a penchant/obsession for ultra elitist living. Once again, super snob Gwyneth Paltrow has proved she is totally out of touch with the 99% of the population when she recently told InStyle magazine that she doesn’t allow her absurdly named wee ones, Apple and Moses, to watch TV in English. Apparently, only Romance languages French or Spanish will do for Gwyneth's offspring -- because they are better than your kids.

Gwyneth told the magazine in their September issue that Apple was "cross" at her because of the...

This is just downright unfair. There are so many good movies out there right now, and we have to watch as people across the nation spend money on a franchise like Twilight? Even worse, they are controlling the entire movie theater! How are you possibly going to break through the lines of vampire teens and creepy Twilight moms to go catch a movie this weekend? Well,...

Celebrity Twitterwatch: Trevor Donovan's Secret Identity! Plus Jonathan Knight, Babysitter and Kirstie Alley, Buttkicker!
He does look like he'd attract the boys.

Welcome to Celebrity Twitterwatch, in which we scour the internet for all the tweets that are fit to print as stars tell on themselves while they navigate fame with varying degrees of sanity.

At the top of the page is a very handsome man you may or may not have heard of. That's Ivan Massow, an out businessman in London. He's had a colorful career, but didn't come to my attention until Joan Collins mentioned attending his birthday party. I guess parties held by wealthy gay men are the same anywhere in the world.

Speaking of being out and proud, between Carson Kressley and Chaz Bono, we've almost failed to mention out pro Louis Van Amstel on this year's Dancing With the Stars. I'm not sure who is harassing Amstel, but if I were them, I'm back off and go into hiding,...

Time to Cut the Cake! Queen Throws Will & Kate a Wedding Reception Like Nobody's Business
Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Adrian Scarborough, and Alison Steadman in Let Them Eat Cake (1999)
Let them eat cake? You bet. And blinis, and beetroot, and quail eggs and—this being the most quintessential British event ever and all—bubble and squeak, to name just a few of the tasty delicacies that are, as we speak, calming post-wedding nerves. After all, there's nothing like being watched by a few million of your closest friends to work up an appetite. Those are just a few of the dishes set to grace the 10,000 plates prepared for the first of three wedding receptions held today in Prince William and Kate Middleton's honor. Oh, excuse us—the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's honor. Oh, excuse us again. Honour. So what's in store for Kate, Wills, Harry, Pippa, Charles,...

Anatomy of A Relationship "Fall From Grace" 7.17
Anatomy of a Relationship

An Episodic Examination of Huddy in Love

“Fall From Grace” 7.17

First of all I’d like to thank you for waiting patiently for this post this week. If you didn’t read my last post I warned you I’d be on vacation this week. I had a great time. Thanks for asking. Now onto this week’s episode.

Hmmmmmmm. Uhhhhhhhhh. Weeeeeellllll. I’m not sure how to take this episode. You’ll remember in last week’s episode House went all loco in his pain for the loss of his true love. Hookers. Vicodin. Cannonballs. And it appears that he doesn’t quiiiiiiiite have all of that pain out of his system in this episode as his juvenile pranks around the office seem to escalate, rather unbelievably at times, in his attempt to make Cuddy feel guilty or use Cuddy’s guilt or… See, I don’t know.

Royal Wedding Watch: Sweet! The Cake’s Bakers Announced
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s rather byzantine wedding cake, photographed at Westminster Abbey in 1947. Photograph from Associated Newspapers/Daily Mail/Rex USA.The royal wedding of Prince William and the future Princess Catherine is just 45 days away. From the daily barrage of tabloid folly, Vf.com’s Royal Watcher in London plucks the best for your wedding crib notes. • Let them eat cake! It has been announced that chefs from the Welsh National Culinary team will be baking the royal wedding cake. I’m hoping it will be a twist on the ever popular Barbie cake, with a Kate Middleton doll in the place of the buxom blonde.

Justin Timberlake
Look, Justin Timberlake is Directing Sexy Tequila Commercials
Justin Timberlake
Danny Devito has limoncello, Marilyn Manson has Mansinthe, Dan Aykroyd has wine and Crystal Head Vodka -- and now Justin Timberlake joins the celebrity alcohol brand smorgasbord with his 901 Silver Tequila. But Timberlake wasn't content to just put his name on the bottle -- he's also making his directorial debut with 901's sexy ad campaign, which has hit YouTube, and will be followed by print ads in September and TV ads in spring of 2011.

Timberlake -- who chose the name as a nod to his hometown of Memphis' area code, and because "901 is that time of night when your evening is ending, but your night is just beginning." Oh, ok. -- debuted the three "uncommonly smooth" ads on the Pursuitist YouTube Channel (where apparently luxury is "redefined"). The videos were shot at the Los Angeles boutique hotel, The Standard, as well as various other L.A. hot spots.

In the first ad,...

A new baby means new curves — and new underthings.

That’s why we’re loving Cake Lingerie‘s sophisticated maternity and nursing bras, panties and loungewear.

Not only is each piece gorgeous, but they celebrate — and accentuate — your new body.

It’s no wonder mom-of-four Heidi Klum is a fan!

Featuring decorative bows, padded straps, ruffles and luxe fabrics like silk satin, the line is split into two oh-so sexy collections — Slice of Heaven and Let Them Eat Cake — that put Victoria’s Secret to shame.

But what really sets the brand apart is its handy bra fitting guide.
