Many times I failed to understand how this movie became a flop !! Such a beautiful narration of characters, fantastic songs, soulful BGM. All the character's performance took a new level of originality and charm in this movie, which always happens under the direction of legendary Director/Musician/Artist Mr.Bharathan. Its widely believed that Mr.Bharathan got really disappointed after the shocking failure of this movie. I couldn't meet even a single person, who object to this wonderful movie and its songs, bad fate of this movie and director indeed. This movie has a fresh theme, quite interesting twists which carries the audience along with it. We lost a great director by Mr.Bharathan's demise in 1998, unparalleled lose indeed.
It is impossible to understand how this movie could possibly be a flop. a must watch
What a beautifully made movie with such a bold concept. Kudos to Sridevi for doing this movie during those most difficult times in her personal life and inspite of that gave such a brilliant performance. Kudos to Bharathan sir for having the courage to make a movie that highlights the evils in some of the age old rituals and culture. Kudos to Aravind swamy to do this role that totally goes against the chocolate boy image he had at that time. The music, singing and lyrics are out of this world. Compared to the standards of the 90s movies, the screenplay and direction is astounding. This was a movie that deserved huge appreciation and multiple awards. But people at that time could not accept the bold concept. Proud of Sridevi to always have done strong feminist roles like Lamhe, Laadla and Devaraagam. Her performance in the climax deserved a National award.

- TriviaThough the film was panned by most critics and did average - to below average business - the music of the film was greatly appreciated. So was Sridevi's epic beauty in the film as the actress returned to Malayalam films after decades. The music of the film was a run away success and the lead singer in the film, iconic singer Chitra, won the Kerala state award for her singing.
