And the Beat Goes On: The Sonny and Cher Story

Whether it was the female script writer or perhaps a lawsuit threatened by the actual Cher, THANK YOU for giving Cher a voice in Sonny Bono's narrative. Fresh off reading The Beat Goes On by Bono, I entered this with less than zero expectations. But the actress who plays Cher is PHENOMENAL! Where is her Emmy?? I do not say this lightly. And this movie adds what is missing from Bono's tedious book: Cher's voice!!! Two sides to every story and Cher has hers. Somewhere in the middle of their stories lies the sad truth. Honestly, it ends up being a tragic, yet beautiful love story. Remarkable for a TV movie. Top marks across the board!

I can't vouch to say how accurately the two main characters (Sonny are Cher) are portrayed in this film not in appearance and their mannerisms. From what I have seen of the couple, the actors seem convincing and the story line seems true to events.

The scenes of the couple as hosts on a TV show are particularly, good and are a good representation of TV show hosts in America in the 60's, rather than as they might appear nowadays.

The media/news since has portrayed Sonny as somewhat of an over-bearing character, but the Cher portrayed seems to understand this along along and go with for as long as possible for the career benefits she received, which seems a much more likely and credible turn of events.

I didn't realize until watching this film how much Sonny had contributed to the music production of their songs and how closely he had worked with other producers at the time, including the awesome, and now highly discredited Phil Spector.

Whatever they have done since, we all have to learn to see their actions for what was going on in the context of their time, rather than writing them off because of later historical re-interpretations.

It's a little long at about 2 hours long, but well worth watching right through to the end.

You will laugh, you will cry.

Renee IS CHER. She did an amazing job of capturing her look, her moves and her style. I was absolutely amazed.

I always expect camp when watching these biopics. There was very little of that in this movie.

It is heartbreaking their marriage didn't hold up. I think they stayed in love afterward.

This film could be about any couple who fell in love, grew apart because of life's pressures but still have a bond.

A good copy of this is on YouTube. You can also watch Cher's speech and Sonny's funeral, which basically tells the same story as this film.

This is definitely worth a watch. Based on Sonny's book. I think he was pretty honest.

I thought Renee Faia *was* Cher. Very believable; she really nailed it. I always liked to watch Cher on the Sonny & Cher show and I felt like I was back in the 60's.

I am dying to know what Renee REALLY looks like under the wig and makeup that made her so convincing as CHER. Is there nobody out there who can help me? Surely a publicity shot exists somewhere, who ever heard of an actress who DIDN'T want publicity?
