Spider Man: No Way Home star Jacob Batalon has opened up about spotlighting the experience of “being someone who’s not conventionally beautiful” in his upcoming Syfy series Reginald the Vampire.
Batalon, who stars and exec produces the 10-parter, has been in Cannes this week promoting the show at Mip TV to global buyers. He told Deadline attacking social stigmas and smashing tropes are key to the show’s message.
“We spoke about the underlying message right at the start and talked about the experience of being a ‘not pretty’ person. That gave me such an incentive,” said Batalon, who starred in three Spider Man movies as Ned Leeds and also appeared in two Avengers pics.
Distributed by Cineflix Rights, Reginald the Vampire is based on Johnny B. Truant’s Fat Vampire novels and follows the protagonist, who discovers he has unrecognized powers.

“It’s not alway best to be first” is the verdict of HBO Max Global Boss Johannes Larcher as he talked up international strategy at a Mip TV keynote this afternoon.
Speaking to the territories in which HBO Max will be launching after competitors including Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+, the former Hulu exec said his team can “learn a lot from the actions others have taken both successfully and less successfully in the past.”
“We are doing this in a phased manner and are being capital efficient,” he added.
His comments were in contrast to Paramount International boss Raffaele Annecchino, who used his Series Mania keynote to praise Paramount+’s quick launches in key European territories.
Larcher rejected the notion that HBO Max is in direct competition with the other streamers, stating: “It’s not about being number one but about creating a service that best serves our customers.

Good afternoon. Christmas feels like a lifetime ago (just asks Boris Johnson) and 2022 is certainly in full swing. Here’s your weekly dose of the biggest news and deep-dives of the week. Read on.
Berlin Is Back
In-person: Grab your steins, the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival is happening, and it’s happening in person. While the adjacent European Film Market is taking place virtually, organizers confirmed this week that the festival will progress as a physical event, albeit with certain restrictions in place. International Insider, for one, can’t wait.
Covid-friendly: Although the industry and Berlin organizers are breathing a collective sigh of relief, the festival will have a slightly depleted feel compared to previous years. The main offering has been reduced by four days and will now run February 10-16, cinemas will be reduced to 50% capacity and red carpets, press conferences and photo calls will also shrink in size.

A viral video of a man gliding through New York City on a large drone is reminding Marvel fans of the Green Goblin. Famously played by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, Green Goblin has long served as one of Spider-Man's most well-known enemies. The supervillain is known for his use of explosives while using a glider to fly throughout the city, all the while with Spider-Man in pursuit.
On Twitter, a video was posted of a man using a similar glider to hover his way through New York City. The video quickly went viral, pulling in over a million views in a matter of hours. It's a remarkable sight, but the biggest takeaway for many is that the aircraft is highly reminiscent of the Green Goblin. With thousands of fans making comparisons to the Spidey supervillain on Twitter, the hashtag #GreenGoblin has also started trending.

The Walt Disney Company and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced a multi-year content licensing agreement for U.S. streaming and TV rights to Sony Pictures’ new theatrical releases across Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution’s vast portfolio of platforms including its streaming services Disney+ and Hulu, as well as linear entertainment networks including ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX and National Geographic. The deal covers theatrical releases from 2022-2026 and begins for each film following its Pay 1 TV window. The agreement builds upon the companies’ prior arrangement which saw Spe movies licensed to FX in the post-Pay 1 TV window.
The deal also grants rights to a significant number of Spe’s iconic library titles, ranging from the “Jumanji” and “Hotel Transylvania” franchises to Sony Pictures’ Universe of Marvel Characters films, including Spider-Man.
This gives Disney enormous programming potential across its platforms and makes them key destinations for a robust collection of Spider-Man films.

Spider-Man‘s arrival into the McU was certainly one of cinema’s most celebrated moments in recent memory. It seemed like everyone from longtime fans to casual moviegoers alike all united in jubilation for the most popular Marvel hero’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War.
While the character featured prominently in the following Avengers films and starred in his own two solo movies, his debut still stands out thanks to one incredibly unique costume seen adorning our favorite wall-crawler. Not the one worn in the famous airport brawl, but rather the one we see beforehand when Tony Stark meets the young crime fighter at his New York apartment. This getup consists of a hoodie, a pair of goggles and a cloth mask.
Since this suit had no practical advantages (except maybe the cloth mask) over the high tech upgrade provided by Stark Industries, it saw little use beyond these...

I kind of felt honour bound to review this, with Halloween in our not too distant future. Can you think of many better characters than Ghost Rider at this time of year. I also have a more personal connection in that, every Halloween growing up, I’d always pull a stack of books with a horror connection and read them. I always did the same at Xmas as well, themed reading was a thing back then clearly. Apart from the odd Werewolf By Night, or Tomb of Dracula, the character I loved the most was Johnny Blaze himself, Ghost Rider. Visually awesome, with great villains like Mephisto prone to spring up, and having adventures in a nice little niche area of the Marvel Universe, what was not to like? The 1990′s reboot was ok, with Danny Ketch as the new Ghost Rider,...

Based on the Manga series of the same name, A.O.T 2 (Attack on Titan 2) is a revisiting and expansion of the world discovered in the first game that offers a lot to fans of the show but also completely grabbed me as a total newcomer with its surprisingly engaging story, addictive gameplay and, of course…massive titans.
Set in an alternate Earth in which the few human survivors are walled in a city of concentric circles, surrounded by wandering ‘Titans’, literally enormous naked figures that are between nine and 150 feet tall and are concerned only with the consuming of humans, so keen are they to eat us that they don’t even bother to chew!
The main game allows you to create a character of whichever gender you decide that acts as a sort of silent protagonist, existing outside of the main series but in the social circles of the characters,...

A Spider-Man: Far from Home action figure reveals Mysterio's true allegiance. Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have been curious about Mysterio as more promotional material from the movie shows Jake Gyllenhaal's character as an ally to Peter Parker and S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury introduces the two as they try and figure out a way to take down the Elementals, who are wreaking havoc in Europe as Parker and his friends try to have a relaxing vacation.
A new Mysterio action figure from Spider-Man: Far From Home looks just like he does in the movie, but with the clouded fishbowl helmet. While the toy is well done, that isn't the focus here, it's what it says in the description on the back. It reads: "Mysterio is a master of illusion and a sworn enemy of Spider-Man." It really doesn't get any more clearer than that, though most...

From Spider Man to Uncharted 4, these are some of the most brilliant PS4 games currently available...
Sony has always done well in the console business, but this might be the best generation yet for the Japanese electronics giant. While the PlayStation 4 doesn’t pack quite as much raw power as the Xbox One or the portability of the Nintendo Switch, it’s been absolutely killing it with a steady stream of exclusives that can’t be played anywhere else. And as the only console with a Vr peripheral, it offers a much more immersive way to play games at a much lower cost than a Vr rig for PC.
While each console has plenty to offer, and may even have features that better suit your playstyle, it’s hard not to recommend the PS4 to almost any gamer thanks to its deep library. These are the 25 best...

Avengers: Endgame is set to serve as the culmination point for not just the first eleven years of the McU, but also an insane amount of hype and speculation. In fact, once the Avengers: Infinity War sequel arrives in theaters, a lot of filmgoers may feel in need of a breather, and as Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld recently observed, that’s exactly what we’ll get.
Marvel’s Phase 3 finale will be followed a couple of months later by the Sony-produced Spider-Man: Far From Home, but after that, Liefeld points out that we’re probably in for an unusually long wait before the next McU flick comes our way, tweeting:
“Still wrapping my head around the fact that there are no Marvel movies currently filming. So a full year absent Marvel films following Spider Man?”
Indeed, Marvel Studios’ next scheduled release date is reportedly May 1st, 2020, suggesting a wait...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday.
This week’s question: Who is an underrated TV superhero that deserves more respect/attention? (Old and current shows are fair game.)
Allison Keene (@KeeneTV), Collider
This is tough because my outlet puts a premium on superheroes, so really none are overlooked as far as we’re concerned. However, I haven’t seen as much general love for “Black Lightning” as the show deserves. Maybe people are burned out by the deluge of Dctv, much of which is past its prime, though others are exceptionally innovative and increasingly great (“Legends of Tomorrow”). But “Black Lightning” provides something that we aren’t seeing elsewhere in superhero series. Sony Pictures dropped a new trailer for Venom on Monday, and fans finally got to see Tom Hardy mutate into Marvel's anti-hero. Back in February, the entertainment company released a teaser trailer for the film. While fans caught a glimpse of Hardy as journalist Eddie Brock and saw the alien Symbiote that overtakes his body, they didn't see the actor fully morph into the Spider Man villain. The new trailer starts by giving sneak peeks of the transformation. First, Hardy's eyes begin to change. Then, he starts to feel sick. He eventually hears voices. By the end of the clip, Hardy has fully transformed into the anti-hero—fangs and all. "See, we didn't actually forget to put...

Marvel Studios is developing a movie based on the “Eternals” comic book series about an evolutionary offshoot of humanity, president Kevin Feige told TheWrap.
“‘Eternals’ is one of many many many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about to see if we believe in them enough to put them on a slate,” Feige said Sunday while promoting this week’s “Avengers: Infinity War.”
“We have started working on what are the films post-phase 3,” he said, referencing the forthcoming fourth part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s slate of movies after the wind-down of franchises based on the original Avengers.

Marvel fans have been looking for Easter Eggs in the latest Infinity War posters that were released earlier this week. The new IMAX poster features two little Ant-Man cameos, while the new character posters don't really seem to have any hidden features. This is especially evident when glancing at the new Spider Man poster. Fans have taken notice that Tom Holland's Spider-Man appears to be "tucking in" his business, which is causing a minor stir on the internet.
This attention to detail first started when Marvel fans freaked out over Chris Evans' butt being on full display in his Captain America Infinity War character poster. Both Cap and Bucky have posters that highlight their backsides, while Tom Holland's poster appears to have had an airbrushing mishap, erasing his Infinity stones. Spidey looks like a Ken Doll, and as previously mentioned, fans are accusing the superhero of "tucking" it in.

Female-fronted action movies like Tomb Raider are becoming more popular than ever before. That makes now a perfect opportunity to look back at some previously stellar, but less widely known examples.
While the female-led action films have been released since the dawn of cinema, they remain less than a common occurrence in theaters. Until now, studios just haven’t had the same confidence that audiences will turn out for female action heroes much in the same way that they do for male ones. Part of this reason is the stereotypes associated with the genre, and the connections we have with certain actors filling familiar roles. However, just because there aren’t a lot of female-led action films doesn’t mean they haven’t been any good. This is an example of 10 female-led action films which might not be that familiar to you, but definitely deserve to be.
