Music Editorial Blog: Ready for Remake
2019 has taken the remake trend of 2018 and pushed the dial to 11. We’ve seen straight rips of some classic old songs and some very good bits of reworking and modernising efforts from the new generation of music directors. We can look at how Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga not only reminded us of Anil Kapoor bouncing around on his bed and in his old car but also brought the reality of Sonam Kapoor’s role in the new film into focus. At the other end of the scale there’s been a lot of reworking done for Punjabi pop performers, with several being invited to redo their songs with some of Bollywood’s best.

In all cases what any remake does do well is to give listeners both new and old a chance to either reminisce or get to know a song that may be from a previous...

Shah Rukh Khan
Itll be nice if Aamir and I work together Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan
The only time that Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan acted in a movie 'together' was for Ashutosh Gowariker's directorial debut Pehla Nasha, where both appeared in a cameo in a song. While speaking to the media on his 49th birthday, Shah Rukh revealed that Ashutosh had a script for Aamir and Shah Rukh but somehow it didn't materialize. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, at the poster launch of Pk, had said that he hopes someday Shah Rukh and Aamir will work together in a film. On being asked if he would be open to working with Aamir, Shah Rukh said, "If there's a director who has a two hero film, it will be good. For us to make it on our own, wo nahin hoga, I think. If there's a director who has a two hero film, achcha rahega agar hum ek film Karen saath mein. We know each other for so long.

Farah Khan
I dont know why Farah Khan is after me - Saroj Khan
Farah Khan
The iconic superstar of film choreography Saroj Khan is not amused at being targeted by Farah Khan twice over, once during a promotional appearance on Comedy Nights With Kapil where comedian Kiku Sharda did his trademark takeoff on Saroj Khan. And now in the film Happy New Year Kiku returns to do broad takeoff on the famed choreographer. Sarojji is neither amused nor flattered by the comic imitation. Upset but unwilling to let her hurt show Sarojji takes a deep breath and says calmly, "I want all rational media-persons to ask a question on my behalf: what did Farah Khan by getting a comedian to mimic me on Kapil Sharma's show, and then in her film? Kyon mere peeche pade huey ho? Shame on Farah, Kiku Sharda and Kapil Sharma for this kind of behaviour. What has Kapil Sharma got to do with me? Why is he part of this?...

Pehla Nasha Pehla Pyaar
Memory lane has a special place for our firsts. Each of them represents an age, an era and an experience. From my first tooth to my first bruise, my first day at school to my first belly flop into the pool, they are all there. Some are protected by a forgetful mind but they are there. They make the identity we create in life. For example, a part of my identity is Bollyspice. Like all the writers here at Bollyspice. How does this link to the title? Well, Bollywood’s love affair with first loves and the release of Bombay Talkies is what prompted the title of this piece actually. You see, it’s just like our writer Pooja Rao said in her review of Bombay Talkies, cinema doesn’t just affect the lives of those involved, it affects its audience too. So the writers at Bollyspice bring to you our Pehla Nasha,...

Ashutosh: I never carry an emotional baggage
Despite a Lagaan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar behind him, Ashutosh Gowariker isn't willing to disown his other work. Though one would have expected that he would have left behind his What's Your Raashee? (which was a box office failure) or Pehla Nasha (his lesser known debut flick), the fact is that he still fondly remembers each of his outings. "I can't help it as I can never disassociate myself from any of my films. I am as much attached to Pehla Nasha as I am with Lagaan. For th...

Period Films Work Best For Ashutosh
Ashutosh Gowariker
June 1, 2010: It is a well known fact that in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s career as a director, two of the six movies that he has directed, were time periods. And now, he is about to come up with one more movie titled Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se, which is also based on the earlier times.

It is highly noticeable that these time period movies are the ones that got him recognition and fame in the film industry. His first two movies Pehla Nasha and Baazi didn’t do well at the box office. His next film Lagaan, which was based on the period of 1890, earned him fame.

Also, Jodha Akbar, based on the times.
