The project is currently titled “Jane Smith,” named after the novel’s main character, whom Zellweger will play. The book was written by James Patterson and Mike Lupica, with Miki Johnson set to adapt it for the screen and serve as showrunner. The novel was originally published in September 2023, with the second novel in the series, “Hard to Kill,” due out on July 29.

Weisberg died on Oct. 16 at the Motion Picture and Television County House and Hospital. His ex-wife, Susan Ellicott, announced his death to The Hollywood Reporter. He was living at the Woodland Hills facility, receiving treatment for the last five years for early onset Alzheimer’s. He received that diagnosis at the age of 55.

Born in New York City on Jan. 16, 1955, Steven Charles Weisberg attended Syracuse University and Binghamton University. He began working as an editor in the 1980s, receiving his first credit as an associate editor on “Gaby: A True Story” in 1987.

Greg Kinnear will make his Broadway debut as Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of the classic Harper Lee novel To Kill a Mockingbird, replacing outgoing star Jeff Daniels in January.

Daniels, who originated the role when the play opened on Broadway in 2018 and returned when the production resumed performances after the Covid shutdown, will make his final appearance as Atticus on January 2. Kinnear begins performances on January 5.

Prior to the shutdown, the role was played by Ed Harris, with Kinnear originally set to take over in spring 2020. That plan was interrupted when the Broadway shutdown commenced in March 2020; Daniels and original cast member Celia Keenan-Bolger as Scout agreed to return to the show for limited engagements upon Broadway’s reopening.

Kinnear’s casting was announced today by producer Barry Diller.

Kinnear was Oscar-nominated for his performance in As Good as It Gets and nominated for two primetime Emmys. After finding initial success as the host of TV’s Talk Soup from 1991-95, he segued to an acting career that included roles in You’ve Got Mail, Mystery Men, Nurse Betty, We Were Soldiers, Auto Focus, The Gift, Someone Like You, Little Miss Sunshine, Baby Mama, and House of Cards. London-based outfit WestEnd Films has launched worldwide sales on the project, which will be shopped to buyers at next week’s virtual American Film Market. The project, which is both written and directed by Labute, follows ex-con Connor (Nicholson), who meets enigmatic beauty Marilyn (Kruger) and plunges headlong into an adulterous affair that is complicated by Marilyn’s abusive husband and vulnerable stepdaughter.

His death was confirmed by Icg Local 600’s National President John Lindley, in a message sent out to guild members.

“Dan Kneece was a hard working member and colleague with a ready smile and open arms that embraced all of us who knew and worked with him,” wrote Lindley. “The world was his friend. He leaves his legacy of kindness and warmth for us to carry on in his absence. We mourn his loss and extend condolences to his friends and family.”

As Renée Zellweger accepted the award for best actress in a motion picture drama at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, many online were surprised to find out — or in some cases, be reminded — that she’s actually from the South.

The Judy star’s Texas accent came out throughout her acceptance speech, especially when she addressed the crowd as “y’all.”

Four is the magic number for Renee Zellweger. She won her fourth Golden Globe on Sunday, Best Drama Actress for “Judy,” pushing her up to fourth place on the all-time film winners list.

Zellweger has now tied Tom Hanks and Shirley MacLaine with a quartet of film statuettes. The Oscar champ previously garnered Best Comedy/Musical Actress for “Nurse Betty” (2000) and “Chicago” (2002) and Best Supporting Actress for “Cold Mountain” (2003). A seven-time nominee, she’s had two nominations since then, for “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” (2004) and “Miss Potter” (2006).

The win also makes Zellweger one of three women who’ve won all three actress film prizes, joining Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.

Only three people have more film wins: Streep holds the record with seven, followed by Jack Nicholson with six and Rosalind Russell, who converted all five of her Globe bids into victories.

Chris Rock is teaming with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures for a fresh reimagining on the next Saw movie. The comedy multi-hyphenate has written a story which is being adapted by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, and Rock will also executive produce.

Exclusive: Neil Labute will premiere three new one-act plays Off Broadway in January as the St. Louis Actors’ Studio returns to New York for its fourth theater festival named for the Reasons to Be Pretty playwright.

Labute himself will direct the world premiere of one of the plays: Unlikely Japan, starring Billions actress Gia Crovatin. The other two plays, written by Labute, are the world premiere of Great Negro Works of Art, directed by John Pierson and starring KeiLyn Durrell; and, in its New York premiere, The Fourth Reich, directed by Pierson and starring Eric Dean White.

Performances of the one-acts begin January 10, 2019, at Off Broadway’s The Davenport Theatre, with opening night set for January 14. The festival engagement runs through January 27.

My personal vote goes to Chocolat's 5 nominations (including Best Picture!!!) in 2000. The fluffy disposable film was nominated over obviously well-liked films like Billy Elliott, Wonder Boys, and Almost Famous... and great but divisive films like Dancer in the Dark and. 

And though Juliette Binoche is one of the all time great screen actors, there was simply no excuse for that Best Actress nod when Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) and Björk (Dancer in the Dark) were both Right There, totally inspired, and more than worthy of nominations. Even further outside the race there were still other leading ladies who were running circles...

One of the highlights of the 2009 Academy Awards ceremony was the surprise addition of 20 Oscar winners presenting to that year’s acting nominees. It started with five Best Supporting Actress champs (Whoopi Goldberg, Goldie Hawn, Anjelica Huston, Eva Marie Saint, Tilda Swinton) who gave out the award to Penelope Cruz, welcoming her to their club. While all of those presenting that evening had indeed won the category before, each one often had no connection at all to the person they were introducing.

The following year new producers followed a similar format of five people presenting to a new crop of five for the lead categories only.
