I always feel attracted to this film the first time it came out, there's something about the poster design that make me feel this is a "different" movie. But i didnt catch the film untill now. I'm not sure whether this will turn out to be just another crappy HK film or my feeling from the poster is true, the first 15min or so kinda draw me to believe the first. Another cheesy plot perform by the so-so actor direct by another wong kar wai wannabe, then it turn to a pretty solid performence and direction but just another cheesy romantic story, then slowly its just turn into this beautiful picture. Fan wong is definately putting an eye-catching performance and derek yee is in every way succesfull in sending out the message he intended. Now if you would excuse me, I'm going to buy the poster.
I don't know much about Hong Kong movies, or just enough to know there's a lot of junk, but after two viewings I still feel that by any standards this is a truly good movie. The main attraction here is the center character of Jane, who embodies with great liveliness a fundamentally good girl strayed into a depraved life. The movie oscillates between light comedy and (especially towards the end)
powerful drama triggered by the girl's unshakable (or hardly so) addictions and bad habits; but ultimately it is a very refreshing, uplifting and tender love story.

The movie's full of philosophy about life. However,it's not boring at all.The dialogue are very humor. Through the conversation between Jane and Sam, we can find that everyone is facing the same problems everyday and we have to try our best to deal with them and to make our lives more happier and productive. All the supporting actors act great in this movie. I'll say "The Truth About Jane & Sam" is the movie of the year,1999. The songs are great, the actors are great, the content is also great! I enjoyed it very much. I felt the warmth when the movie ended.
The show is quite nice except for the actress should learn to act a bit more natural rather than trying to so call act cute. I have seen lot of her show and her acting really have lots more to brush up. Too fake. I also don't understand why she was choose to be the lead actress of this show. Maybe budget was low. If she can learn to act less fake, it would be nicer.
After seeing this movie i thought of something that i never felt before. The feeling of seeing the hardest things in a lighter way. this romantic philosophic comedy has a straight line story.
A brat Jane (Fann wong) who doesn't care about life in any manner but the thing is she is living. She can do anything for her drinking and drugs. A sophisticated, shy guy Sam (Peter Ho) who works as a journalist in HK. He needs a story and she has the story nothing but her story. Slowly a sensitive relation develops between them. Circumstances lead them to live under one roof. Here Jane starts living with a hope and Sam with a fear. Then comes the story of separation and reunion. But that is not that simple to say anyway.
Well the power of this movie is its simplicity and continuity. Let me tell u one simple sequence after Jane undergoes an eye surgery she comes down by lift of the hospital. On one floor she observes a family crying on death of their relative and on next stop of lift she notices a man in joy on his new born kid. Then the narration thru her says that life is both optimistic and pessimistic, it's the what u chose for yourself that matters. see how simple yet powerful.
i personally feel that i don't mind watching this movie again and again
