In our Q&a /feature series Tell Me Más, we ask some of our favorite Latine celebs to share some inside info about their lives and some of the ways they are prioritizing their mental health. This month, we spoke with Colombian rising star Elsa y Elmar about dealing with burnout, safeguarding her mental health, and how all this impacted the process of creating her latest album, "Palacio."
Elsa Margarita Carvajal is no stranger to success. Better known by her stage name, Elsa y Elmar, the Latin Grammy-nominated singer has been making waves in the music scene for more than a decade. But with her latest album "Palacio" releasing on August 30th, and on the brink of hitting the road for her biggest tour yet, Carvajal is poised to reach a whole new level. To reach that level once meant putting in many years on the indie circuit and playing...

Two on-the-rise directors, Maria Perez Sanz (“Karen”) and Maddi Barber (“Land Underwater”), have signed on to direct episodes in “Present,” a singular exploration by Spain’s Garde of a new generation of women artists, both cineastes and writers, who broke out last decade.
Part of a broader literary-film project, “This Is Not a Poem” (“Esto no es una poesía”), “Present” (“Presentes”) is being introduced to potential co-producers and distributors by Garde founder Cristina Hergueta at Locarno’s Match Me, a networking forum which kicked off Aug. 6.
Perez Sanz will bring to the screen a text written by Cristina Morales, winner of Spain’s 2019 National Narrative Prize for “Lectura Facil.” Barber will create a film from a poem by Maria Sanchez, whose first book of poetry, “Cuaderno de campo,” was published in 2017, and has quickly run through multiple editions.

Penumbra is a paranoid thriller in the mode of Rosemary’s Baby and Repulsion, with a decidedly darkly comic streak that manages to unsettle and frustrate in equal measure. The film is an Argentinean film from the Bogliano brothers, recently released in a small number of theaters and now available on DVD.
Marga (Cristina Brondo) is a workaholic who has taken time from her increasingly busy job to show an apartment she owns in hopes of renting it. When the man she has agreed to show the apartment to offers her four times the worth of the place, she reluctantly agrees on the spot, with only one caveat: they must wait for this mysterious tenant to show up to look at it. After shuffling around an appointment to secure the rental, strange things begin to happen around her. Is it due to the impending eclipse she keeps hearing about? Who...

It’s only appropriate that, on the same day two films born from the neon womb of the 80s release into theaters, we get an announcement regarding yet another project that’s cribbing straight from the glory days of side ponytails and slap bracelets. Or, rather, the high-flying times of being dangerous. For whatever reason (cough, money, cough), Paramount is going ahead with their Top Gun sequel, which we’re all going to call Top Gun 2 until someone finally announces that it’s called Top Gun: Living Life Between Your Legs or similar. The studio is now reportedly in negotiations with X-Men: First Class and Thor scribblers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to pen this latest iteration of dudes gone wild. If you’re looking for a plot, don’t come sniffing around here, as Variety says that details are “nil,” as the script has not even been written yet. What...

Ok, we all love Javier Bardem, right, especially after No Country For Old Men and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
That’s why, although, at first moment, we had no detailed information about Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s upcoming movie titled Biutiful, we already have a feeling that it would be awesome.
And we’ll finally have a chance to enjoy Bardem on big screen at Cannes Film Festival 2010 because this movie is in this year competition!
So, as we said, Javier Bardem is the leading star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Biutiful, which is actually the first project of Gonzalez after his much-publicized bust-up with former screenwriting partner Guillermo Arriaga.
If you don’t remember these names, let us remind you that Arriaga and Gonzalez Inarritu were Mexico’s most successful filmmaking duo, starting with their breakout hit Amores Perros in 2000 and the subsequent leap into Hollywood with English-language pics 21 Grams and Babel that formed a trilogy.

Though scarcely anything is known of upcoming Mexican / Spanish drama Biutiful so far it is immediately notable for two reasons.
First, it is the latest feature from Alejandro Innaritu, the man behind Amores Perros, Babel and 21 Grams. Innaritu has a flawless track record so far and anything he is involved in is instantly noteworthy.
Second, cast in the lead of the film is No Country For Old Men, The Sea Inside and Between Your Legs star Javier Bardem. And if the prospect of Innaritu working with Bardem isn't enough to get you a little excited ... well, you're probably not watching the right movies.
What do we know? The synopsis released on the IMDb is not particularly helpful, stating only that "A man involved in illegal dealing is confronted by his childhood friend, who is now a policeman." The production company backing the film gives a bit more: "At the heart of Biutiful is the intimate,...
