Janice Burgess, ‘The Backyardigans’ Creator, Dies at 72
Image
Janice Burgess, creator of Nickelodeon’s “The Backyardigans,” died on Saturday in hospice care in Manhattan, according to The New York Times. She was 72.

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of one of the great architects of Nick Jr. and creator of the globally beloved series, ‘The Backyardigans,'” Nickelodeon said in a statement. “Janice was one of the greats–inherently creative and kind, and dedicated to the preschool audience everywhere.”

Animation writer Fracaswell Hyman, who met Burgess while both were working on “Gullah Gullah Island,” wrote on Instagram, “Janice swept in with her acid-tongued wit, flowing Hermes scarves and omnipresent cigarettes. Instead of an overseer, she became a friend. She recognized my magic before I did and made sure I was in the room and under consideration for many of the shows that came my way including ‘Little Bill’ and ‘Taina.'”

The statement continued, “Janice, Maria Perez-Brown...

Image
It’s never easy for fans to see their favorite shows potentially consigned to oblivion, but this week it came time for Paramount+ users to face the music. The service has been purging content since the end of last week, and a new wave of cuts hit the service on Monday.

The most notable title in the new round of removals is the provocative comedy series “Inside Amy Schumer,” which saw all episodes of its five seasons taken off the platform, including the most reason season, which was a Paramount+ exclusive. Also pulled from the service are newer original movies geared toward younger audiences, like “Fantasy Football” and the remake of “Snow Day.”

Paramount+ content was not the only category to see a purge, either, albeit for a different reason. Nickelodeon shows “All In With Cam Newton,...

‘Inside Amy Schumer’ Among Latest Group of Projects Removed From Paramount+
Image
The Paramount+ purge continues.

Inside Amy Schumer and Kevin Williamson’s Tell Me a Story are among the latest titles to be removed from the Paramount Global-owned streaming platform. The moves, which were expected after last week’s erasure of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game and Queen of the Universe, come the same day that the conglomerate officially unveiled Paramount+ With Showtime.

Other titles that are being deleted from the service include Dave Grohl’s docuseries From Cradle to Stage, Ghislaine: Partner in Crime (the doc from former CBS News president Susan Zirinsky), the LeBron James-produced film Fantasy Football (which was picked up as part of Brian Robbins push for younger-skewing content) and family musical Snow Day.

Nickelodeon fare was hit especially hard with the removals of series including All In With Cam Newton, Allegra’s Window, Becca’s Bunch, Bella and the Bulldogs,...

Tell Me a Story, Blood & Treasure, and Inside Amy Schumer Among Titles Purged from Paramount+
Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, Tricia Fukuhara, and Marisa Davila in Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies (2023)
Paramount+ opened the floodgates to purge content from its streaming platform last week when it removed Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, The Game, Queens of the Universe, and Star Trek: Prodigy.

Deadline reported Monday that all five seasons of Inside Amy Schumer had been banished from the service, with no telling whether the show will return at another destination.

Also removed is Tell Me a Story, which was canceled after two seasons in 2020.

The anthology from Kevin Williamson had previously been leased to The CW to help shore up its schedule during the pandemic.

Blood & Treasure, which began its life as a CBS original before being placed on a multi-year hiatus to return on Paramount+ before being canceled, has also been removed.

The list goes on. Here's the full list of titles no longer available to stream.

Paramount+ Removes 20 More Shows: Amy Schumer, Thrillers & Nickelodeon Shows All Off Of Streaming
Image
Paramount+ has just removed even more series and movies from its service. The relatively young streaming platform originally debuted in 2014 as CBS All Access before rebranding as Paramount+ in 2021. Last week, ahead of its impending merger with Showtime, the streamer canceled four of their original exclusive series - Star Trek: Prodigy, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, The Game, and Queen of the Universe - with plans set to remove them all from streaming entirely.

Today, Deadline reports that Paramount+ is removing 22 more titles from its roster, including many exclusive originals. This includes the series Inside Amy Schumer, From Cradle to Stage, Ghislaine: Partner in Crime, and Kevin Williamson's Tell Me a Story along with the movies Fantasy Football and Snow Day. They also removed 16 Nickelodeon titles: All In With Cam Newton, Allegra’s Window, Becca’s Bunch, Bella and the Bulldogs, Crashletes, Digby Dragon, The Fresh Beat Band, The Halo Effect,...

Paramount+ purges additional content including Inside Amy Schumer, Fantasy Football and Nickelodeon shows
Image
After a year of questionable decisions from streaming services that involve password sharing, app overhauls, advertisement tiers, removal of content and so on, the bubble is somewhat bursting as companies look to regain profitability through the purging of shows. It was not long ago that news broke about the streaming platform, Paramount+, canceling a number of projects, including Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game and Queen of the Universe. Not only is the streamer canceling these movies and shows, but they’re removing the titles from the application as well to reap the benefits of a content write-down.

Deadline now reports that more shows have been put on the chopping block over at Paramount+. One of the bigger names that is getting purged is the return of the sketch comedy show Inside Amy Schumer, which had returned to continue its run with a fifth season in six years.

Paramount+ Purge Continues With ‘Inside Amy Schumer’, ‘Fantasy Football’ & Nickelodeon Content Scrapped
Amy Schumer in Inside Amy Schumer (2013)
Inside Amy Schumer returned to Paramount+ after six years for its fifth season – a season that Paramount was hoping could score an Emmy nomination to compete against the likes of SNL and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

However, Emmy voters hoping to take a last minute watch on Paramount+ before tonight’s voting deadline will have been disappointed after it was one of the latest titles to be scrapped from the streaming service.

Paramount+ has purged a phalanx of programming today including a number of original series, original movies and Nickelodeon content.

The low-profile move comes after Paramount revealed last week that it was canceling and scrapping four series: Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game and Queen of the Universe.

Inside Amy Schumer is joined by From Cradle to Stage, a docuseries directed by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl and based on his mother’s book,...

Hi there, Face here! Chances are, if you're a '90s kid who grew up on Nick Jr., you didn't just read that sentence, but you also heard it. Because, when you were sick at home and curled up on the couch, it was that voice of Nickelodeon's animated host who announced your favorite shows like Blue's Clues, Gullah Gullah Island, Little Bear, Allegra's Window and Eureeka's Castle. (And yes, reading that lineup has us feeling nostalgic Af too.) But did you ever stop and think about putting a name to, well, the Face? We did. And we found Chris Phillips, who has been lending his voice to Nickelodeon since 1994. (Though the...

Evelyn Sakash Dies: Daytime Emmy-Winning Production Designer Was 66
Image
Evelyn Sakash, a veteran production designer and scenic artist who won a Daytime Emmy for PBS’ Between the Lions and worked on films, including Still Alice and Mrs. Winterbourne, was found dead Tuesday at her New York City home. She was 66.

The Associated Press reported that Sakash was a known hoarder and was found lying on her kitchen floor under a pile of garbage. The body was discovered by her sister, who told police she had hired a cleaning crew to clear the home in Queens and to look for Sakash. The medical examiner’s office will work to determine the cause of death.

A missing-persons report filed with the NYPD said Sakash hadn’t been seen since September 30.

Along with her Daytime Emmy win in 2003, she picked up another nom for the live-action/puppetry series Between the Lines the following year. Her other TV credits include all episodes of the 1994-97 Nick Jr.
