One of three Václav Vorlícek's fairy tale movies based on work of Bozena Nemcová. The other two are Trois noisettes pour Cendrillon (1973) and Comment on réveille les princesses (1978).
Actor Frantisek Filipovský, who played the court jester, coincidentally also played the court jester in another fairy tale in the same year, Le neuvième coeur (1979).
The scene when the prince falls into the pond with his princess sisters was the last to be filmed, due to the very expensive costumes that were not allowed to be damaged during filming. Actress Ivana Andrlová recalled that they had only one take to film the scene, as they did not have spare costumes for any retakes. Fortunately, the scene was actually filmed on the first take.
