Billie Eilish’s nomination for the new James Bond theme, “No Time to Die,” breaks with long-held Grammy precedent: it appears to be the first nominated in the “best song written for visual media” category for a movie that won’t open for months.

The song was released during the 2019-2020 eligibility period, on Feb. 13, in anticipation of an April release of the movie. But the Covid-19 pandemic forced a delay to November, then another to April 2021, so the Eilish song is out there but no one has seen the movie for which it was written.

Eilish is co-credited with her brother Finneas O’Connell for the title song, which peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard charts in America and debuted at No. 1 in Great Britain. And then there’s “Skyfall,” by Adele, which many consider to be the best of the bunch.

Writing and/or performing the next James Bond song is always a herculean task for any artist. On the one hand, some of the finest tunes songs ever composed for film are associated with this franchise—Shirley Bassey’s rendition of “Goldfinger,” Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Live and Let Die,” Carly Simon’s “Nobody Does It Better”—and on the other, there’s a laundry list of failures, some to an iconic degree—Madonna’s “Die Another Day” says hi. So recent musical sensation Billie Eilish and brother Finneas O’Connell were always setting themselves up to climb a mountain on No Time to Die.

It was the obvious question to pose while he was talking about Amazon’s new “Good Omens” miniseries, for which he has composed the elaborate score.

“It’s a no-news situation,” Arnold told Variety about 007. “I’ve heard nothing. But my pencil is always sharpened for him if James comes around again. But if he doesn’t, I’ll be as excited to watch the new film as anyone else. I still love him, and I love all of the team over there.”

Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s Film 45 will document the late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman.

"Cry, if you want to cry," Chris Cornell sang on the song "My Wave." Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s production company Film 45 will help you see and clear your eyes in a documentary about the late frontman and songwriter for Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, according to Variety. Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell, will participate as a producer. Paramount recently yanked Pitt's World War Z 2, which he hoped to make with Fight Club director David Fincher, from its production schedule. Berg will direct the as-yet-untitled movie. No other details of the Chris Cornell documentary have been announced.

Cornell died on May 18, 2017, a few hours after a Soundgarden show at Detroit's Fox Theater. His death was ruled a suicide. An autopsy revealed painkillers and anti-anxiety medication in Cornell's bloodstream.

Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden, tragically committed suicide after playing a show in Detroit, Michigan at the Fox Theater according to The Independent. As a member of Soundgarden, he helped usher along an era of music that helped rid the music world of some of the pretensions and phoniness the music industry and built at that particular time. With his work in Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, and Audioslave, his legacy in the music industry will never be forgotten.

The quality of the theme songs for Daniel Craig's run of the Bond films has pretty much matched the films themselves - Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" and Adele's "Skyfall" are both excellent themes, and the sonic stillbirth that was Jack White and Alicia Keys' "Another Way To Die" is best left to the incinerators of history.

Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall" was immediately dismissed at the outset, but it actually grows on you. It never reaches the two previous triumphs, though ultimately it is a fine song if a strange one for a Bond theme. Well it turns out Smith wasn't the only artist commissioned to do a Bond theme.

Sam Smith's theme song for the 24th James Bond film "Spectre" has been released in full.

The track, "The Writing's On The Wall," is a ballad like Adele's "Skyfall" but takes on a different tone - swapping a soft melancholy in place of Adele's fire.

Smith's voice is strong, especially during the falsetto chorus bits which are the highlights, while the brassy and string-heavy music is very Bond.

But the lyrics are oddly unmemorable and the overall song lacks the power of "Skyfall" or Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name". It's a fine song on its own right, but a strong Bond song? At first listen not really, but it does improve with repeated listens. It's also worth noting that the film's opening credits could well use a different arrangement.

By the time the nominees for the 85th annual Academy Awards were revealed, the overwhelming buzz coming out of nomination morning was not about who was included, but who was left off the list.

Because there were so many names left off.

Usually, you can count on one or two well regarded names missing out on an Oscar nomination. It’s just the way it goes when there are only five nominees in most categories. Some people get left behind. But this year represents a high water mark in the number of heavily favored, big name individuals whose names were not called… the supposed locks that weren’t locked in at all. A whole swath of expectations crashed and burned.

Talk about a bloodbath.

Well, I think we can all agree that Adele’s Let The Sky Fall is a wonderful opening track for Skyfall- it’s a really return to the bond themes of old, and if the opening song is that good, it fares well for the actual film that entails (although this has not always been the case- Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me, A View To A Kill…).

But with the Bond machine back on track and Danny boy signed for 2 more films, we can expect Bond 24 sooner rather than later. So let’s look ahead and I’ll suggest 10 artists to potentially take on the next opening tune.

10. Michael Buble

Some people have gone off Buble’s work of late, but I thinking he’s still very charming with a marvellous voice. He’d been an interesting male voice, something we haven’t had since You Know My Name...

It has been the worst-kept secret in pop. But the sheer obviousness of Adele being the right candidate for the Bond theme – that big voice for international audiences to swoon to – sits at odds with the themes we've had in recent years. They have been jagged, awkward things: Jack White and Alicia Keys' Another Way To Die; Chris Cornell's You Know My Name. It's as if they've tried to match Daniel Craig's craggy toughness with earthier sounds. Sadly, those tunes were too forgettable to get any pistols firing.

So back to basics it is, and the easier promise of a ballad-blasting female. But a 90-second clip of Skyfall released online on Tuesday suggests a slightly softer Adele: not the Rolling In The Deep singer who could rival Shirley Bassey for lung power.

Not long ago, we got the news that Adele had officially been chosen to perform the theme to the upcoming James Bond film Skyfall. Reactions were a bit mixed with some loving the idea of her voice put to a Bond song, while the very same idea caused some hesitation for others. Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical at the notion, but after today, that has changed.

Thanks to The Film Stage, we have a 90-second preview of her Bond theme and the results are sounding quite good. It harkens back to the old school themes, sounding rather different from what we’ve been getting lately.

With the last two Bond themes, it’s been a mixed bag. Chris Cornell’s “You Know My Name” is one of the best themes of the franchise, while Jack White’s “Another Way to Die” was rather forgettable. Hopefully Adele will deliver something...

Columbia Pictures has unveiled two more clips for Men in Black III, which debuts in theaters nationwide May 25. You can take a look at both the present day Mib's Agent J and Agent K (Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones) in one scene where they control a crowd of witnesses, and check out Josh Brolin and Alice Eve interacting with Agent J when he travels back to 1969 in another scene.

I love Adele. Her songs “Rolling in the Deep” and “Turning Tables” are constantly on my iPod. It seems that Adele could be writing and performing a new song and that might be for the new James Bond movie. She recently appeared on British talk show The Jonathan Ross Show this past weekend and in a way without saying much let the cat out of the bag. During the interview she said:

I’m going back in the studio in November, fingers crossed. But not to record an album. This is actually a theme, what I’ve got to do. Wow, I’m really giving something away … It’s one song.
