Sex Mob: Cinema, Circus & Spaghetti: Sex Mob Plays Fellini: The Music of Nino Rota (Royal Potato Family)
Call me crazy, but I feel a connection between Rota's themes for Fellini's films and the melodic styles of Albert Ayler and Ornette Coleman. Granted, what each did once past their respective themes became wildly different, with Rota never abandoning harmony, Ornette twisting it in new directions, and Ayler abandoning it altogether, but before that happens, their themes share an effulgent earthiness and overflowing humanity. And who better to bring out the jazz side of that earthy humanity than the great recontextualizer Steve Bernstein and his longstanding quartet with Briggan Krauss (alto and baritone saxes), Tony Scherr (electric bass), and Kenny Wollesen (drums, gongs, log drum, waterphone, vibraphone).
Bernstein's slide trumpet in particular has the microtonal relationship with pitch that Ayler and Coleman each cherished to varying degrees, including a wide...

Let's face it: It's not easy making it nowadays. The economy sucks, and the concept of steady work is like chasing a mythical unicorn. That being said, how far would you go to get a job? How badly do you want one? The Employer wants to know!
Written and directed by Frank Merle, The Employer stars Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Halloween, Silent Night, "The Mentalist,” “Entourage,” “Franklin & Bash”), Paige Howard (Adventureland), Billy Zane (Titanic, Back to the Future, Dead Calm), and David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight, Saving Lincoln, Prisoners). Merle and Chris Roe produce.
Look for it to be released on June 7th.
Synopsis
Director/writer/producer Frank Merle (Carnage, Chaos & Creeps; Gnaw) and his new psychological thriller The Employer show just how far five applicants are willing to go for a job at the mysterious Carcharias Corporation. Anticipating their final interview, they find themselves trapped in a room...

Lou Taylor Pucci is playing one of the many young people who gets victimized by all the demonic craziness going on in this weekend's Evil Dead, but he's got another, much more nuanced role coming to theaters as well. In the exclusive clip above you can get a glimpse of his performance in The Story of Luke, in which he plays an autistic 25-year-old whose life changes entirely when he's forced to move in with his distant relatives. All he has guiding him is his grandfather's final words: "Get a job. Find a girl. Live your own life. Be a man!" In the clip you can see Luke in conversation with his uncle Paul (The Princess Bride's Cary Elwes), in which an emotional moment doesn't go quite as planned thanks to Luke's autism. The cast also includes Seth Green-- who you know from everything from Robot Chicken to...

Good morning and Happy Valentine's Day!
Alisha Dixon was the first out lesbian to ever make it to Hollywood on American Idol, at least that we saw. Unfortunately she was axed last night, but she could still be brought back as a wildcard.
Jillian Michaels was on Watch What Happens Live last night and she would not bang Rachel Maddow, but the actress Melissa Rauch said she definitely would. Then Jillian said she hasn't talked to Jackie Warner in years because they were "business partners." Mhm!
The gifs from the upcoming Gossip music video for "Get a Job" look pretty hilarious and amazing. I can't wait to see the final product.
Check out the new track from sisters CoCoRosie, which is "is an imagined conversation between an abandoned child and an outcast old woman.

Beverley McGarvey chief programming officer for the Ten Network talks about her media habits and media trends in a Q&A first published on Encore.
Who is the most powerful person in Australian media and why?
Government policy and regulation touches pretty much everything we do on a day- to-day basis, so I would have to say communications minister, Stephen Conroy. From the amount of advertising we can sell, to the accuracy of our electronic program guide data, we have to check the rules every time we take a breath. Importantly, though, I think Senator Conroy gets the fact that this industry is going through a period of major structural change and he has taken some positive steps to make sure we can keep doing what we do, particularly for local content.

Robert Kardashian's widow, Ellen Kardashian, who released suspicious excerpts from what she says is her late husband's journal this week -- claiming Kris Jenner was an abusive mother -- is fighting back after Kim and Khloe Kardashian took to Twitter to slam her allegations.
Keep in mind that the fourth wife of the famed late attorney, whom he married two months before he died of esophageal cancer in 2003, is the same woman who last year alleged that Robert's youngest daughter Khloe was not his biological child, but the product of an affair.
Ellen tells In Touch of the journals, “I am simply stating the facts and the truth -- their father’s truth. I simply delivered hand-written diaries from their father. They are my property at the disposal of whatever I so choose. Robert would have no problem with that.

Kev F. Sutherland is, sadly, not quite a household name yet. But if you are big into the live comedy scene, attend the Edinburgh Fringe and/or are in the right circles, he is a big name.
Not only is he arguably the man who gave Stephen Merchant and Miranda Hart their first break, but was also the inspiration behind Neil’s Dad The Inbetweeners (Kev’s old friends Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have never actually confirmed this, but we all know it’s true).
Disgustingly multi-talented as a comedian, comic artist, musician, caricaturist and writer among many others (he’s probably a professional bloody plate-spinner in his spare time for all I know…), you might have seen him on Points West, The Culture Show, Comedy Shuffle, Battle of The Books, The One Show and Upstaged.

Everywhere we go music follows us. We should never overlook music’s role in our lives, and even more so in film. Listen and you’ll learn and experience a great deal more. Stand by Me is a touching coming-of-age movie set in the 1950′s about a group of friends and a childhood journey to find the body of a missing boy near their town. The fantastic soundtrack is filled with early rock & roll hits. The movie is nostalgic for many reasons, but above all it’s the music on the soundtrack that can make anyone happy decades after it was originally recorded.

When I really think about it, I guess I’m going to Sundance because I lost a contest.
“The High Level Bridge” is my ninth short film. It’s a five-minute, personal documentary about the largest bridge in my hometown: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The best way for me to describe the movie to people who haven’t seen it is to tell them the first lines of my voiceover: “This is the High Level Bridge. It’s where people who live in Edmonton go when we’re finally ready to kill ourselves. By the end of this little video, I’m gonna huck this camera over the edge.”

This is the true story of four friends who decided to live together in a house, and have their lives taped by the one who considers herself a “videographer” to find out what happens when people stop being polite…and start getting really, really obnoxious. Reality Bites: It sure does! Okay, full disclaimer: We are two snot-nosed members of Generation Y. The film was not made for us. We have no emotional attachment to it. But even though Reality Bites looks incredibly dated now — let’s be honest, it was dated one year after its initial 1994 release — we both found the movie fascinating.

Werner Herzog has forever been a maverick of modern cinema and certainly never one to work within the constraints of the so-called ‘normal cinema’. A man who would rather forge his own path straight up the middle of the rock face of filmmaking, ignoring the easier Sherpa led routes on either side of that particular furrow.
Werner Herzog, the director of many classics of the left leaning art house cinema scene, including Aguirre The Wrath of God (1972), The Enigma of Kasper Hauser (1974) and Stroszek (1977). Not forgetting his most well known work Fitzcarraldo’ (1982) which emerged victorious from the epic struggles of which it was born, deep within the dark recesses of the Peruvian Jungle. It’s Herzog’s innate sense of persistence and drive which lends his films and Fitzcarraldo in particular a slight air of madness. You get the feeling that no matter what, Herzog’s projects will be finished...

Conan the Barbarian sounds like the ultimate beefcake action movie. But the film is actually a fascinating curio, starring a cast of non-actors and featuring one of cinema history’s great scores. The first major starring role for Arnold Schwarzenegger (who supposedly had to lose muscle mass in order to swing the sword), Conan has very little to do with Robert E. Howard’s character and everything to do with the particular obsessions of director John Milius, who mashed several different Conan stories together, sprinkled on some Nietzsche and some caveman religion, and then poured in a river of blood.

A very special thanks goes out to program director Brian Joseph who was responsible for convincing me to make Sound On Sight more of a talk show, as appose to simply playing music from movies we love. Gallo Refused To Let Dad Dash Movie Hopes
Vincent Gallo defied his parents to pursue his love of acting after his father branded him a "retard" for dreaming of a movie career.
The Brown Bunny filmmaker was just 16 years old when he was accepted to study acting under famed teacher Stella Adler, who had previously coached Robert De Niro and Marlon Brando.
But when he broke the news to his parents during a car journey, his dad Vincenzo launched into a furious rant about his son's movie aspirations, branding him "an idiot".
Gallo tells Britain's The Independent, "(He) slams on the brakes to the car. The car goes skidding into a snowbank. And he grabs my ear, and he pulls me by my ear from the back seat to the front seat, into the rear-view mirror and he pushes my face, five or six times, into the mirror. The rear-view mirror breaks off from the windshield.
"And he tells me, 'Look at your face, you retard. You look like Paul Newman? You look like Robert Redford? Those are actors. You look like an idiot. Get a job... When you get a job as a plumber or in a gas station, give us a call and we'll come and visit you.' And then he threw me in the back seat."...

I woke up on Monday covered in bruises. Now, some people might assume that this was because I helped my sister move all weekend, but those people are Stupid Dumbheads. A sensible person would know that it's because of all the kung fu fighting I do in my sleep (those cats were fast as lighting, yo). That really has nothing to do with anything, it's just always surprising when you go to get in the shower and you find a series of large contusions and wonder for a minute if you got into an epic bar brawl and then you forgot all about it on account of the vodka. Then you remember that you effing can't stand vodka, so you probably just bumped into a bunch of shit or dropped a house on yourself or something. Business as usual and whatnot.
