9 things you need to know about trailblazing TV series The Man from Uncle
David McCallum
The Man from Uncle review: A fizzy antidote to 007

Suave spy caper The Man From Uncle opens this week, revamping the cult '60s TV series and bringing it to the big screen for the first time in nearly 50 years. If you've never seen the original show or its eight movie spin-offs, here's your handy guide to get you up to speed...

1. The Man From Uncle was created by James Bond's Ian Fleming... sort of

The original idea to make a television series about a suave, sophisticated spy who travelled the world fighting villainy came from producer Norman Felton. He was interested in presenting each episode from the point of view of an innocent person - say, a housewife or a farmer - who find themselves drawn into an adventure beyond their wildest dreams.

In 1962, Felton pitched the idea to none other than James Bond creator Ian Fleming; based not...

'Suburgatory's' Jeremy Sisto loves his kids and 'The Deer Hunter'
On ABC's Wednesday sitcom "Suburgatory," which launched a new season in January, Jeremy Sisto plays George Altman, an architect and single father of a teen daughter (Jane Levy) who moves to the suburbs to give her a better life. He discovers life there is different, but whether it's better is a work in progress.

In real life, Sisto is a 39-year-old father of two: daughter Charlie and baby son Bastian. He got married to wife Addie a few months after his daughter was born, but Sisto has no regrets about taking the plunge.

"I love my family," he tells Zap2it. "I have a great wife. It took me a while to figure that out and commit, but now I'm really happy I did. She's a human being, and we're committed to each other. It's a nice thing. The kids are just amazing. It's a different level."

As to whether...

Julia Stiles: Then And Now
Bradley Cooper, Debbie Lay, and Jennifer Lawrence in Happiness Therapy (2012)
She's back!

Jennifer Lawrence might have been a no-show at the premiere of "Silver Linings Playbook" in NYC last night (Nov. 12), but her co-star Julia Stiles hit the red carpet at the Ziegfeld Theater, stealing the attention from all the other attendees.

Sporting a shorter hairdo, the teen favorite from the late 1990s and early 2000s -- come on, "10 Things I Hate About You," "Down To You," "Save The Last Dance" and "O" -- wowed in a black dress as she proved nothing has changed with age. The 31-year-old actress, who stars in "Silver Linings Playbook" alongside Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, made sure her legs were the main attraction, something she wasn't so keen on doing over a decade ago.

On Feb. 5, 1999, Stiles, sporting her iconic golden waves, wore a tea-length blue dress at the premiere of the television movie, "The '60s," in Hollywood, Calif. She was only 18 years old.

Mad Men (2007)
William Bradley: Mad Men: Rejecting Advertising, Or, Don Draper Meets Acid Rock, Pop Buddhism, and an Independent Wife
Mad Men (2007)
"Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream. It is not dying, it is not dying.

Lay down all thought, surrender to the void. It is shining, it is shining.

That you may see the meaning of within. It is being, it is being."

John Lennon and Paul McCartney

from Tomorrow Never Knows, on the album Revolver

Don't look now, but something important just happened on Mad Men. A major character, someone with real talent in the field, just rejected advertising. Someone who happens to be ad guru Don Draper's bright and shiny new wife.

Megan Calvet Draper's Marxist academic father, who so disapproves of her work in advertising, and of her life of easing into wealth by marrying a rich older man, evidently got through to his daughter in the episode before this. She's now pursuing her dream, which was unclear then but turns out to be acting. And...
