Totò a Napoli

1 review
8/10

Very Enjoyable For The Right Audience

This is one episode of the 9-part made for TV series called Tutto Totò. This episode is obviously an attempt at increasing tourism in Naples.

Totò takes a group of foreign tourists on a sightseeing tour of Naples in an open bus, and gives very funny descriptions of all the sights they see. In between each site a different artist performs a song.

The first time I saw this, I thought that the production was poor and the songs were distracting. The second time, I recognize what an excellent job they do capturing the culture and feel of Naples and the songs add to that goal greatly. The quality is poor at times, and I had heard that it was released after Totò's death. In some outdoor scenes Totò's voice is so strange that I assume it must have been dubbed after his death.

Definitely listen to the song Marechiare by Sergio Bruni before you watch this movie. They refer to the song and make jokes regarding the lyrics. I didn't understand any of that part of the movie until I listened to the song and read the lyrics.

This is not for everyone, but it is very much for those who appreciate the beauty and culture of the city. I highly recommend it for those people.
