The X files - le jeu (1998)

FAQ

The X files - le jeu

The game is suppose to be set some time in season 3. Before the season finale but some time after 'Colony.'

Without giving away too much, the game does not so much end on cliffhangers, so much as it just paves the way for the story to continue. This is not unusual for the X-Files, many episodes end with resolution, followed by an epilogue in which we discover that not everything is what it seems. The games story structure simply follows the same trend.

A sequel to the game was believed to be in pre-production, however poor reviews and slow sales effectively buried a sequel. Not to mention the gaming engine used was soon after abandoned. To this day the game still has a small cult following of fans who wonder what ever became of the games unique characters, as it was implied that they still had a role to play in X-Files mythology.

Between their promotional duties to the series, and the X-Files film in development, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson had very busy schedules when the game went into production, meaning their involvement was going to have to be minimal due to time constraints. This is why the Craig Willmore character was introduced, and the story of having him track a missing Mulder and Scully written. It allowed the game to still dig deep into the X-Files mythology as well as involve other characters from the series such as Skinner and Mr X, before introducing Mulder and Scully later in the game as a payoff for the players efforts. Apparently Gillian Anderson had have such a good time filming the game during her short time on set that she requested her role be increased, which is why a number of other scenes featuring Scully were added to the game during production.
