Indian superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be feted by the upcoming Locarno Film Festival with a career achievement award, celebrating his more than 100 credits across a multitude of genres.

The Bollywood star will receive the award in the festival’s Piazza Grande on August 10. He will then also participate in a public conversation the next day.

The festival will also screen 2002 hit costume drama Devdas, in which Khan plays a man whose life spirals out of control after his family forbids him from marrying his childhood sweetheart.

Previous winners of Locarno’s Pardo alla Carriera include Francesco Rosi, Bruno Ganz, Claudia Cardinale, Johnnie To, Harry Belafonte, Peter-Christian Fueter, Sergio Castellitto, Víctor Erice,, Jane Birkin, Dante Spinotti, Costa-Gavras, and, most recently in 2023, Tsai Ming-liang.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be honoured by the Locarno Film Festival with its Honorary Leopard achievement award in recognition of his outstanding career in Indian cinema spanning more than 100 films “in a breathtaking multitude of genres,” it announced on Tuesday.

Khan, who is known in India as “King Khan,” will be making the trek to receive the award on Aug. 10 on the Swiss fest’s 8,000-seat Piazza Grande open-air venue where his 2022 love triangle drama “Devdas” – in which Khan plays the titular character, a tragic romantic alcoholic – will screen, followed by an onstage conversation on Aug. 11. “Devdas,” which scored a BAFTA nomination and won numerous Indian awards, marked the first time many Western audience members were exposed to mainstream Bollywood.

Mumbai, Feb 20 (Ians) Manisha Koirala has shared as to why she slowed down after turning 50.

The acclaimed actress shared that after having a career spanning over three decades. And 100 films, she has “earned” her “me time”.

Leading Tamil filmmaker Mani Ratnam shared deep insights and filmmaking secrets from his illustrious 40-year career in a master class at Mumbai Film Festival, moderated by self-confessed fan and Hindi film director Imtiaz Ali.

In a standing room only session that lasted nearly two hours, the celebrated filmmaker started by talking about how he was working as a management consultant when the films of masters such as Akira Kurosawa, Guru Dutt and Bimal Roy inspired him to seek a career in cinema.

“At that time, the only way you could become a director was to work as an assistant director with some big filmmaker – that would be a period of some seven or eight years and I was not patient enough for that,” Ratnam remembers.

New Delhi, Aug 15 (Ians) Actress Preity G Zinta has opened up on the roles that she has portrayed on the screen, saying that though she never went to an acting school or a workshop, she just wanted to get things right on set.

Singer-songwriter Rashmeet Kaur, who impressed audience with her rendition of ‘Bajre Da Sitta’, has released a new song titled ‘Dil Khanjar’ which hit the airwaves on Wednesday on the occasion of World Music Day. What sets the song apart is the fact that it draws inspiration from the nostalgic vibe of 1990’s music and Sonu Nigam’s songs.

The 1990’s remain a memorable era in Indian mainstream music as the landscape for non-film music radically changed with the introduction of the private television channels in the mid-1990s. This was the time when indie pop was in all its glory.

The upcoming film ‘8 A. M. Metro’, which stars Gulshan Devaiah and Saiyami Kher, tells an unusual story of two characters who are brought together by destiny. Legendary lyricist, filmmaker and poet Gulzar, who is known for his works in films such as ‘Parichay’, ‘Aandhi’, ‘Omkara’, ‘Ghulami’, ‘Guru’, ‘Dil Se..’ and several others, unveiled the poster of writer-director Raj R’s at his Bandra home. The veteran artiste has contributed six of his poems for the film.

The song ‘Veera Raja Veera’ – the second to be released from the Mani Ratnam spectacle ‘Ponniyin Selvan: 2’ – was shared by the film’s makers on Saturday. Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer A R Rahman has composed the track, picturised on Karthi, Trisha and Shobita Dhulipala against the backdrop of warships sailing across the high seas. It is based on a traditional Shiva Stuti in Raag Adaana of the Dagarvani tradition of Dhrupad.

The track features a melodious use of the tabla and veena, both instruments complementing the ‘murkiyaan’ in the melodious voices of Kavita Krishnamurti, Shreya Ghoshal and Arman Dehlvi.

‘Middle Class Love’ actor Prit Kamani, who is part of the anthology series, ‘Jab We Matched’, talked about his idea of dating and relationships, and how he had a crush on Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala since he watched her film ‘Dil Se’. The actor also said that earlier, he was not familiar with the concept of dating and was even hesitant to discuss it.

New Delhi, June 3: Actress Manisha Koirala, who has battled ovarian cancer, says she spent June 2, International Cancer Survivor Day, by visiting a temple, eating pizza and just relaxing.

"Oh yeah. June 2nd was a cancer survivor day. Enjoyed going to temple, ate a slice of pizza, watched 'Star Trek', walked 3 miles," Manisha posted on Twitter.

The 42-year-old, who carved her own niche in the Hindi film industry with films like "Bombay", "1942: A Love Story" and "Dil Se..", was treated in the Us. She has now recovered and she is expected to return to India in July.

Cinematographer-director Santosh Sivan has been invited to sit on the Jury of the International Competition section at the Jeonju International Film Festival (Jiff) 2013. Headed by Kazakhstani filmmaker Darezhan Omirbayev, the jury also includes Korean director Ryoo Seung-wan, Us academic Don Fredericksen and Korean actor Jung Woo-sung.

Sivan, a Films and Television Institute of India (Ftii) graduate, has been to South Korea earlier with his films Navarasa, Before the Rains and Tahaan screening at the Busan International Film Festival. He was also selected at the Asian Project Market (Apm) 2012 for his project Ashes.

Some of his noted works as a cinematographer are Dil Se.., Bride and Prejudice, The Mistress of Spices and Iruvar and as a director are Asoka, Urumi, Prarambha and The Terrorist.

The 14th edition of Jiff will be held from April 25 – May 3, 2013.

Last fall, Tisdale had just fallen for for her next-door neighbor when something brought his spirits down. Tisdale brainstormed an appropriate way to cheer him up. "I wasn't going to get him flowers or anything like that," she remembers, "but I wanted to bring a smile to his face." The two had bonded recently over their love for a winning combination: whiskey and bacon. So Tisdale realized there was really only one option: A bacon bouquet. Her house swirling with smoke, she presented the neighbor with a dozen juicy pork blossoms.

Grammy-winning country act Lady Antebellum released their second album, Need You Now, at just the right time. In addition to taking the top spot on next week's Billboard 200, thanks to sales of 481,000, the trio will likely have another strong showing next week following their performance and double win on Sunday night's 52nd annual Grammys.

Holding strong at #2 is the Hope for Haiti Now compilation, which moved another 143,000 digital copies, bringing its two-week total to more than 313,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

Among the newcomers in the top 10: classic crooner Barry Manilow's Greatest Love Songs of All Time (#5, 57,000), Corinne Bailey Rae's The Sea (#7, 53,000) and Celtic Woman's Songs From the Heart (#9, 42,000). The rest of the top 10 are Lady Gaga's The Fame (#3, 68,000), Susan Boyle...

David Archuleta has stopped by NBC's "Today" show on Monday, December 21 to take the stage for a live performance. The runner-up of "American Idol" season 7 sang a holiday tune called "Angels We Have Heard on High" for the morning show.

Before grabbing the mic and belting out the Christmas carol, David had a chat with the show's host Meredith Vieira. Talking about what he did to spend the holiday when he was a child, David said he used to go caroling with his family in neighborhoods and in nursing homes.

David Archuleta has just finished his Christmas tour on December 20 in Westbury to support his first holiday album "Christmas From the Heart". After completing the gig, he will be spending his time to finish his second pop studio album which is expected to be released next year.

"American Idol" season 2 winner Ruben Studdard is releasing a new Christmas song titled "Christmas in Your Arms." Listen below.

The single will be released Dec. 8, but you can listen to it streaming for Windows here or for Real Player here. It's really a nice, homey Christmas song. Ruben sings that he'd "be happy in the city" or "on the farm," he doesn't care where he spends Christmas as long as it's "in your arms." Awwww. He's the velvet teddy bear!

Ruben isn't the only "Idol" with holiday offerings. Carrie Underwood's All-Star Holiday Special airs Dec. 7 on Fox and David Archuleta recently released "Christmas From the Heart," which is a nice sampling of Christmas favorites.

David Archuleta is currently on tour promoting his new Christmas album, "Christmas from the Heart," and he got a little help from family. His mother Lupe joined him on stage for a duet.

During Tuesday night's show, Archuleta brought out his mom for the song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." A video, now available on YouTube, shows that Archuleta's vocal chops run in the family. She even planted a kiss on the cheek when they hit the stage.

The performance left Archuleta's mother emotional, nearly in tears by the end. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" appears on his album as a duet with Charice Pempengco.

"Christmas From the Heart" also includes the American Idol runner-up's renditions of classics like "Joy to the World," "O Holy Night," and "I'll Be Home for Christmas." The disc's sole original track, "Melodies of Christmas," was co-written by Archuleta.

Christmas came early for David Archuleta fans. Earlier this month, the season-seven "American Idol" runner-up released Christmas From the Heart, which features 12 Christmas favorites as well as a new song Archuleta co-wrote, called "Melodies of Christmas."

The 18-year-old told MTV News that working on an original holiday tune came naturally. "It all happened so fast that I didn't really think about it!" he said. "I mean, that was the last song we worked on and recorded. And it was all pretty much a rush."

Is it possible Michael Bublé's gleaming pearly whites are hiding a garlic grill? That would explain how the buttery Canadian crooner's Crazy Love has been able to hold onto the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 for a second week, despite a hype-heavy charge from the soundtrack to the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon."

Actually the fact that the "New Moon" soundtrack came out last Friday, for a shortened week of reported sales, is probably what helped Bublé earn nearly double the vampire tunes' sales.
