One of Playboy's most iconic series starts on a bum note taking all it's footage from other titles & not shot specifically for this video. As such an experienced PB viewer will certainly spot clips they've seen before, but if you look past this fact there's elements to like. Though things would improve and they'd really hit their stride with the sixth edition 'The Locker Room'.
Opening montage moves at a breakneck pace giving plenty of good vibes, a few nude shots (2.5 mins). "Pirates" takes it's theme and runs full steam as ladies (Sandra Wild, Ginna Amore, Monique) amongst others are dressed the part on a ship pose as clips from old movies are shown. Nice choice to name the ladies onscreen & some lovely nude views. Real effort put in here (4 mins). "Beach Bunnies" finds ladies (Luann Lee, Katherine Hushaw, Cher Butler) nude from the start as they play around in and out of the water. The naked sight of their bodies is pleasing before Simone Eden, Liz Stewart & Anna Clark pop up too as it wraps on a former PMotY Karen Velez pictorial shown (4 mins).
"Cancun" has more ladies in the sand, water quickly then settles on a trio (Cathy St. George, Teri Weigel & Rebekka Armstrong) but the video doesn't wanna slow down. As it bounces to and from these ladies Susie Owens also joins the mix (3 mins). "Girls on the Water" is a quick water sport montage that has a topless Barbara Edwards but most of the shots are non-nude (1 min). "City Heat" starts as a construction babe segment or so it seems but quickly becomes casual street fare. Only a few shots of ladies topless in an alleyway make this erotic. "Rub-A-Dub" sees women in bathtubs. Marina Baker equal parts silly, naked then it's Charlotte Kemp in a bunch of quick pleasant cuts before Carmen Berg. Then it's Penny Baker outside followed by more pics on the subject from the mag. Lastly Roberta Vasquez hits a jacuzzi looking great, nice close-ups and Kim Morris in pics puts a garden hose over herself (4 mins). "Shower Girls" has Teri W & Donna Edmondson, Lynda Wiesmeier & Katherine H get wet in quick clips. Pics of Roberta Vasquez in the mud wrap (1.5 min).
"Pipe Dreams" takes ladies (Lynne Austin, Monique N, Dona Spier) thru even more clips of getting wet in an alley (3 mins). "Hot Wax" shows a car, shots of buns in jean cutoffs, tops getting wet leaving no question where this is going. Oddly the two ladies aren't named as the hot mix kicks off a great scene (3 mins). Playmates Venice Kong & Kimberly Evenson get brief scenes at a waterfall and on cliffs respectively (2 mins). "Liquid Dreams" has pleasant sights but initially the lighting doesn't help. Underwater shots kick off the 2nd half (2.5 mins).
"Summer Night" has ladies (Teri W, Lynne A) trying to beat the heat which takes it time but grants topless shots near the end (3 mins). "Fantasy: Liquid Sensations" quickly gets to pouring liquids down nude female bodies in closeup (1.5 mins). "The Swimming Pool" starts with a lone blonde naked before a party takes off. There's a few nice shots in the mix, but also many that aren't. The mood changes and now it's just shots of ladies naked underwater with calm music (4.5 mins) "Rain" sees another topless blonde (Playboy sure did love 'em) with an umbrella or in front of fireworks topless (2.5 mins).
"Girls Walk on Water" sees a bunch of quick clips. First Playmate Ava Fabian gets her white blouse wet and see thru then Sharry Konopski pops a champagne bottle pouring it down herself topless. Rebecca Ferratti gets soaked in a chair a la 'Flashdance', Carmen B jumps around naked & wet and a few more clips for good measure (2 mins). "Mirage" has ladies either in the country or the desert. Some nice shots in the mix here, but I'd loved to have seen even more than what we got to go out on (3.5 mins). On the plus side end credits give more visuals (some new, some old).
Given the nature of the title, coming out in 1989, I can't be too hard on the first 'Wet & Wild'. There's no denying enjoyable pieces & the vibe, atmosphere is pleasant. As I said off the top the series would reach it's pinnacle five sequels down the road but this is where it all started. Fans of beautiful women, nostalgia or Playboy give it a go.
