Woody Woodpecker's car may have run out of gas, but the duo of Woody and Wally Walrus has not

Was very fond of Woody Woodpecker and his cartoons as a child. Still get much enjoyment out of them now as a young adult, even if there are more interesting in personality cartoon characters and better overall cartoons.

That is in no way knocking Woody, because many of his cartoons are a lot of fun to watch and more and also still like him a lot as a character. Always have gotten much enjoyment out of Woody and Wally Walrus' cartoons and their chemistry together. Of which 'Well Oiled' is one of their best, one that sees Woody and Wally outwit each other with hilarious results, a refreshing rarity of Woody being punished and where one roots for Wally but doesn't see Woody as a jerk.

While there are more interesting characters, Woody is an amusing character and never too obnoxious. His interplay with Wally is truly inspired, while Wally is incredibly funny here especially in the latter parts.

As ever, the animation is great. The characters are well drawn, but even better are the rich colours, meticulously detailed backgrounds and smooth backgrounds.

Music is another strength here. It's characterful, lushly orchestrated and is not only dynamic with the action it even enhances it. The writing is amusing and chuckle-worthy enough and the gags are well-timed and often hilarious, even with a more violent tone.

    The voice acting is solid.

On the whole, one of Woody and Wally's best. 10/10 Bethany Cox

    Woody...punished?

This is one of the last Woody cartoons written by Dynamic Duo Hardaway-Schaffer, and one of the finest. This is the last of the "victims getting the bird at the ending" style, which begun with "Ski For Two" and continued with "Smoked Hams","Coo-coo Bird" and "Solid Ivory". Back to this one, here Woody is driving his car on the road and his gas tank gets empty. In a typically "Woody Woodpecker" way to solve things, he starts stealing gas from a nearby car, only to find out that it's a police car-and worse, Wally is the cop! After some hilarious oil-fighting and being cheated in every way imaginable, finally WW gets him, in a really bizarre and outrageous way. His Woody impersonation at the ending is one of the most remarkable moments in Woody history! This one confirms my thesis: Dick Lundy simply HATED Woody, and loved torturing him sadistically every time he directed one of his pictures. Great, granted fun for everyone!

Woody fans need to take what this site says . . .

. . . about anything happening in the 1900's with a grain of sand. The bots that monitor content here obviously are too busy plotting War Games to fact check anything. There WAS no Woody the Woodpecker television show in 1947, according to show producer Universal and ALL other parts of the internet. Series--NOT Season--One of the show had 26 episodes, running from Oct. 3, 1957 through March 27, 1958. The ACTUAL Episode #24 consisted of WACKY BYE BABY, APPLE ANDY and THE MAD HATTER, and aired March 13, 1958. WELL OILED comes out #24 overall amid all this made-up, bogus misinformation. The REAL Episode #24 included a presentation by Woody producer Walt Lance titled "Story-Boarding Woody," which ran 4 minutes, 10 seconds long, and also included Woody writer Homer Bright-Man.

After being caught stealing gas by Wally Walrus, Woody is able to make a clean getaway with his car. However, he was only able to sneak two mouthfuls of gas beforehand, which would not be enough to last in a long car chase.
