La servante (1960)

Trivia

La servante

Edit
This was the first and the last film Eun-shim Lee (Myung-sook) starred in. The public hated immoral Myung-sook so much that no director hired her after this film. [She may not have had a starring role, but she was hired for two films after this movie and also appeared in one movie previously.]
Ahn Sung-ki, who plays the son, Chang-sun, is seen as an 8-year old childhood star in his breakout role. Although barely recognizable in this film, Ahn is one of South Korea's most respected actors and is often dubbed "the nation's actor".
Included among the "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die", edited by Steven Schneider.
The housemaid's salary was 5,000 KRW per month, which equates to about 454,200 KRW in 2024. This amount exchanges to $336.54 USD in August 2024.
During the opening credits the two children are shown playing the string game "Cat's Cradle." The game, which involves passing a loop of string between players in the course of creating complex figures, originated over 200 years ago and has many names throughout the world. It is known as "sil-tteu-gi" in Korea.
