Rajesh Khanna was the original choice for Aaj Ki Awaaz but as he was very busy at that time, The Chopras took their favourite Raj Babbar and again in Mahesh Bhatt"s Aaj, Rajesh Khanna was the original choice but as he was busy Mahesh Bhatt took Raj Babbar for that role. So twice Raj Babbar did the roles of Rajesh Khanna for the important Filmmaker.
Remake of Hollywood movie Deathwish.
Smita Patil got Nana Patekar a audition at BR Chopra' s office. There they offered Nana a meaningless role of a rapist. Nana got angry and walked off. It was Smita who convinced him to go back and tell them he was a serious actor. Nana eventually got a better role.
Director Anil Sharma saw the film Deathwish and wanted to remake it in Hindi. Sharna knew someone would remake the film if they saw it, so he wanted to make the film fast. He looked around for a hero to sign the film and give bulk dates. When he could not find anyone, he changed the script to a female protagonist. He narrated the subject to Hema Malini and she loved the story. She even want's to produce the film. But Hema could not give bulk dates immediately. Anil Sharma could not wait and approached Smita Patil. Smita loved the subject and agreed to do the film. Sharma titled the film " Chingaariyan". A week before the shooting could start, Sharma got a letter from Smita saying she could not do the film for personal reasons . Anil Sharma was shocked and surprised she backed out. A week later , B.R. Chopra announced Aaj Ki Awaz with Smita Patil and Raj Babbar. Aaj Ki Awaaz was remake of Deathwish..
It was a big hit of its time. Highlight was Raj Babbar's killing of Dilip Tahil.
