Eric Roberts, Randy Quaid, Sam Shepard, Brad Rowe, and Donnie Wahlberg in Purgatory (1999)

Goofs

Purgatory

Edit

Continuity

The character killed by lightning at the knife throwing scene was Jacinto, played by Michael Shaner, not Euripides, played by Richard Edson. So, it would make sense that Euripides could have a line at the end of the movie.
Towards the end when Sunny speaks with Rose while she is swimming at the pond, when she is getting dressed, as she says "Last chance is more like it" she is only wearing her shirtwaist and tan skirt, but the next time we see her, seconds later, she has her apron on.
At the knife throwing scene at the church, Euripides is struck by lightning and killed. Then at about 1hr 17 minutes, we see him alive and well at the final showdown ("I guess they ain't Mennonites").

Factual errors

The people in Refuge say that Billy the Kid is the newest arrival. But Billy was killed in 1881, while Jesse James died in 1882. So Jesse should be the newest arrival.
Unless, Wild Bill Hickok found it hard to live in peace which would keep starting his time over and therefore placing him with Doc Holiday. This problem with living in peace could explain a lot of plot holes reasonably. The movie states that it's s been "almost" 10 years since Wild Bill died, setting the tear at early August 1886.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Doc Holliday was indeed a dentist and not a physician. In the Old West, however, remote towns often had to use what they had for medical care. Physicians were scarce, so if a town did not have a doctor they would go to the dentist, veterinarian, or even barber for care. Also sometimes physicians would be called upon to care for sick animals if needed. It is therefore not that far of a reach that a dentist would serve as the town doctor.

Revealing mistakes

During the last shoot out, Glenn a.k.a. Billy the Kid, turns over a vegetable table to use as a shield. A basket of onions tip over revealing red modern produce stickers on some of the onions.

Miscellaneous

In the shootout Forest/"Wild Bill" Hickok carries 1851 Navy Colt Revolvers, the favored gun of the historical figure, and a gun belt with cartridges.

The 1851 Navy Colt Revolver was a cap and ball gun; the ball (bullet), powder and cap would be loaded separately. These guns did not fire cartridges, so there would be no reason to have cartridges on his gun belt.

There were 1851 Navy Colt Revolvers that were converted to fire cartridges. However, close inspection in the movie will not reveal any signs of the conversion; including a breech plate or ejector rod.

Anachronisms

In the final gunfight scenes, Rose is wearing a plastic hair clip. Plastic wasn't invented until 1907, more than 20 years after James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickock was killed.

Plot holes

In Purgatory, the people must live in peace for 10 years before being accepted into heaven. However, Wild Bill Hickok died in 1876 and Doc Holliday died in 1887, 11 years later. According to the movie's plot, they could not have been in purgatory together. Unless, Wild Bill Hickok found it hard to live in peace which would keep starting his time over and therefore placing him with Doc Holiday. This problem with living in peace could explain a lot of plot holes reasonably.
