La Famille Addams : Les Retrouvailles

The Cast of 1991's The Addams Family Reunited at Los Angeles Comic Con
Image
The 1991 big screen outing for The Addams Family remains a much-loved movie over 30 years after its original release. At Los Angeles Comic Con, fans of the kooky, spooky family were given a huge treat as the surviving cast members reunited for a special family photo. The moment was shared on social media by Christopher Lloyd, who was joined by Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci, Jimmy Workman, and Carel Struycken, for the kind of image that brings both joy and a little sadness to the heart for the movies fans, thanks to the absence of Raul Julia and Judith Malina, who passed away in 1994 and 2015, respectively.

Based on the Charles Addams comic strip, The Addams Family appeared on TV in the 1960s, but many still hold their first big screen outing as the go-to reference for all things Addams. This is mostly down to the casting of the main family members. Julia...

Why Netflix's Wednesday Likely Won't Lead To A New Addams Family Movie
Image
The 2022 TV series "Wednesday," created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, is a modern update of the Addams Family, characters featured in a series of ghoulish comic strips that first appeared in the pages of the New Yorker in 1933. Over the decades, the Addams Family characters were given their own sitcom, a few animated shows, and multiple theatrical features and TV movies, not to mention comic books, video games, and pinball machines.

The myth of the Addams Family has remained consistent throughout: The Addams are a loving, healthy family whose values only happen to be a complete dark mirror of ordinary people's. The Addams Family love death, bleakness, and misery. They regularly commit murder, and seem to be immortal. And yet, they love everything they do. The family patriarch Gomez is enthused and sexually devoted to his wife Morticia. The young daughter Wednesday is a classic Goth kid, and happy to harm her brother Pugsley.

Final Destination 6 is finally heading into production
Image
It’s about time! Thirteen years have gone by since the release of Final Destination 5, but we’ve been hearing rumblings that another sequel was on the way for years. A while back, Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, came on board to produce the sixth film in the Final Destination franchise alongside Dianne McGunigle, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, and Craig Perry. Back in September of 2022, we learned that the duo of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously directed the 2018 film Freaks (starring Emile Hirsch and Bruce Dern) and the 2019 live-action Kim Possible movie, would be directing Final Destination 6. Last October, it was revealed that the film will be called Final Destination: Bloodlines… and now cinematographer Christian Sebaldt has shared an image that indicates Final Destination: Bloodlines will be heading into production soon! (If it hasn’t already.

The 1 Missing Addams Family Member That Wednesday Will Likely Never Use
Image
Pubert Addams is unlikely to appear in Netflix's Wednesday due to the focus on new characters and the storyline at Nevermore Academy. Familiar characters like Thing support Wednesday, but most of the main cast were created for the show, providing a fresh take. While Pubert Addams may not physically appear, he could still be mentioned to add to the chilling family history in Wednesday season 2.

The youngest Addams family member, Pubert Addams, is unlikely to ever appear in Netflix’s Wednesday. Several characters have yet to make an appearance in Wednesday, including Cousin Itt and Grandmama. Since Wednesday follows Wednesday Addams’s life at Nevermore Academy, new characters are necessary instead of relying solely on the existing Addams family members from previous movies and series.

Every Addams Family Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
The Addams Family movies have had varying degrees of success, with some being financially successful but receiving mixed reviews from critics. The first Addams Family movie from 1991 was a campy reinvention of the family, but its uneven tone didn't resonate well with critics. Addams Family Values, the darker and funnier sequel from 1993, is considered superior, with a great subplot and strong performances from the cast.

How do the Addams Family movies rank in comparison with each other? The Addams Family began life as a series of morbidly funny cartoons by Charles Addams for The New Yorker in the 1930s. Combining cute family comedy with some surprisingly dark punchlines, the cartoons were a huge hit that spawned a franchise. The first Addams Family movie was 1977’s television movie Halloween With The New Addams Family, and the brood reappeared in feature-length form 14 years later. Starring Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia, 1991’s The Addams Family was a campy,...

Most Famous Lost Movies
Image
The lack of accessibility and preservation is one of the greatest threats to movies as an art form. It was only around the late '70s when media preservation was taken seriously thanks to the invention of home video, but even the VHS and DVD booms could only do so much. As such, many movies have since been lost to time.

Some of these lost movies were thankfully salvaged and shown later, while others will unfortunately never be seen. In fact, some movies were practically erased from existence before they even got a formal release. Given how streaming operates and studios' growing contempt for art, these lost movies will sadly not be the last of their kind.

10 Disappointing Movie Sequels Almost No One Knows About
Image
Hollywood loves nothing more than movie sequels, because they come with ready-made audiences, but they aren't always as popular as the original movie or even remembered at all. If the first installment was widely successful, that can create some very high expectations to live up to, and not every sequel manages it.

Still, many movie studios will choose to make a sequel - even without the original actors or director - in an attempt to cash in on the success of their predecessors. It's a huge risk, and these ventures can end up crashing and burning, creating movie sequels that become critical and financial flops that fall quickly into obscurity.

The 10 Best Addams Family Movies And Series
Image
Netflix's Wednesday renewed interest in everyone's favorite kooky spooky household, but the best Addams Family movies and series go back decades. Wednesday ending up as a huge success that received high critical praise and a strong following isn't out of character for movies and shows based on the Addams Family. Wednesday was so popular that it ended up being greenlit for a second season and Netflix has talked about a new Addams Family shared universe of spin-off shows as well. This is very impressive since it is based on a classic television show that turns 60 years old in 2024.

There have been several different iterations of the spooky and kooky family, both on television and in the movies, and in animated form as well as live-action. The original series ran for two seasons with 64 total episodes and that ended up spawning animated series, including crossovers with the Scooby-Doo gang.

The 10 Best Addams Family Movies And Series, According To IMDb
Image
Netflix's Wednesday is the latest reboot of the iconic Addams Family franchise, and the limited series has gotten rave reviews. The series was co-created by celebrated gothic director Tim Burton, who also directed four of the series' eight episodes, and there's no better filmmaker to take on the material than him.

The series marks a return to form for the series based on the sadistic and macabre family, as the franchise hasn't had the most praised releases in reason years. But while the franchise's output has been inconsistent, as fans will be able to tell from the IMDb ratings, there are so many great releases for new fans introduced to the series through Wednesday to seek out.

Wednesday: Netflix’s Addams Family series sets surprising Rotten Tomatoes milestone
Image
Netflix’s new Addams Family adaptation Wednesday has set an unlikely milestone on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series stars Jenna Ortega (X) as Wednesday Addams, based on the character first created by cartoonist Charles Addams.

Wednesday is the latest in a long line of Addams Family adaptations, which has included multiple TV series, a live-action film franchise, and two recent animated films.

Alongside Ortega, Luiz Guzmán plays Gomez Addams and Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia. Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the 1990s film adaptations, also features as one of Wednesday’s teachers.

The series has received mixed reviews, with The Independent’s Nick Hilton describing it as “rather lacking in quality” in a two-star write-up.

“From writing that sounds like it’s been reverse engineered through Google Translate to a deeply confusing central mystery, the world that series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have built is gossamer thin,” he wrote.

Where to Watch Every ‘Addams Family’ Movie in 2022
Image
At long last, “Wednesday,” which stars Jenna Ortega of “X” and “Scream” fame, is streaming on Netflix. Ortega takes over the role from iconic ’90s Wednesday Christina Ricci, who so memorably burned down a Thanksgiving play in “Addams Family Values.”

Ricci appears as a different character in the series from Tim Burton and “Smallville” co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, while Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman take over as Morticia and Gomez Addams.

Here’s where to rewatch the ’90s films that starred Anjelica Huston, Raúl Julia and Christopher Lloyd, and the two recent animated films. And, if you insist on seeking it out, the notorious direct-to-dvd “Addams Family Reunion,” starring Tim Curry and Daryl Hannah.

Every Main Character In Wednesday Ranked Worst To Best
Image
Wednesday Addams returns to the screen for the first live-action adaptation since the 1998 straight-to-video feature "Addams Family Reunion." In very capable hands, "Wednesday" arrives with raven's wings on Netflix and sees cinematic visionary Tim Burton returning to the director's chair. With a body of work that includes "Beetlejuice," "Edward Scissorhands," and "Corpse Bride," Burton has the pedigree to tackle the beloved franchise. Cartoonist Charles Addams' creepy clan first appeared in the pages of The New Yorker in 1938. Over the next several decades, 149 more panels appeared that led to a sitcom in the 1960s, a 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series, two outstanding '90s feature films, a 1992 animated series, another live-action series in 1999, and an animated theatrical reboot in 2019. You could say Burton had his work cut out for him.

Somehow the popularity of the Addamses has never waned. Audiences flock to this creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky family like maggots...

Where Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ Ranks Among Previous Addams Family Shows and Movies
Image
The minute you see the words “The Addams Family,” no doubt you snap your fingers twice.. The Addams clan has seen several incarnations since debuting as a series of The New Yorker cartoons penned by Charles Addams in 1938. The cartoons and the various films and television shows that rose in their wake perfectly blend the humorous and the macabre while focusing on the tight-knit family of Gomez, Morticia, their children Pugsley and Wednesday, and Uncle Fester.

The latest iteration is Tim Burton’s series “Wednesday,” set to debut on Netflix on November 23. The series centers on a teenage Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) trying to solve many mysteries, one being how to cement her identity outside the shadow of her ever-glamorous mother, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Wednesday is also tasked with harnessing her budding psychic ability to solve a serial killer case at Nevermore Academy and cracking a murder mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago.

Who Plays Lurch In The Wednesday Show?
Image
Tim Burton's Wednesday focuses on the titular member of the Addams Family, but most of the other characters from the iconic comic strip also appear in the Netflix show, including Lurch. While not a blood relative of the Addamses, Lurch is as much a part of the family as the rest. The large, Frankensteinian butler is short on speech but visually unforgettable, and it takes a special sort of actor to fill the role. The performer must be physically imposing, have a deep voice, and convey what he's thinking with little facial expression.

In Netflix's Addams Family show, Wednesday, Lurch is played by George Burcea. While reports of his exact height vary, the actor is only a few inches over 6 feet tall. This would seem a problem for the visual comedy of Lurch's role in the Addams home, but Burcea is a good deal taller than the rest of the main cast.

The Addams Family Films, Ranked
Image
The Addams Family's history began in 1938 when cartoonist Charles Addams first drew the eccentric (and then-nameless) characters in a series of cartoons for The New Yorker. In the 1960s, "The Addams Family" television show cemented the iconic characters' influence on pop culture. Whether or not they directly inspired their competitors like "The Munsters," the titular family and their ooky-spooky-kooky theme song have been inescapable ever since. There have been two live-action shows in the '60s and the '90s, two animated series in the '70s and the '90s, board games, and video games. In fall 2022, Netflix will debut a Wednesday Addams series.

But let's not forget the films! Decades after the family first debuted, director Barry Sonnenfeld finally brought them to the big screen in 1991's "The Addams Family," starring Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, and Christina Ricci. Sequels followed in 1993 and 1998, with the latter film serving...

Wednesday Addams Live-Action Series From Tim Burton Ordered By Netflix; Al Gough & Miles Millar To Showrun
Image
It’s official: Netflix has landed Tim Burton’s live-action Addams Family series with an eight-episode order for a spinoff focused on the iconic character of Wednesday Addams.

Titled Wednesday, the coming-of-age comedy, written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and to be directed by Burton, is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. That’s where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.

The Addams Family 2 is Already Happening, Set for 2021
Joseph Baxter Oct 15, 2019

The animated revival of classic TV series The Addams Family is getting a sequel immediately after its profitable holiday weekend debut.

The Addams Family 2 is already set for more kooky, spooky and most likely ooky animated hijinks on the big screen, with the revival film coming off a successful Columbus Day weekend take at the box office. Moreover, the quickly-ordered sequel movie is already set to arrive in the Halloween season of 2021!

While the October 11 release of The Addams Family bowed just below the second week dominance of DC/Warner's buzz-heavy Joker, its holiday weekend opening nevertheless earned a 4-day total of $35 million; an immediately auspicious number for the $40 million-budgeted animated feature. Consequently, the studio collective of MGM and Uar didn’t need to take too much time in planning the sequel, with Deadline reporting on the early order, which also comes with a specific release date.

‘The Addams Family’ First Trailer: Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron Deliver Ghoulish Fun
Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, and Grandmama are back and ready for the big screen once again in the first trailer for MGM’s “The Addams Family.” The computer-animated movie, based on the famous comic strip by cartoonist Charles Addams, comes from “Sausage Party” directors Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan and features an all-star voice cast that includes Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Allison Janney, Bette Midler, and “Eighth Grade” favorite Elsie Fisher.

“The Addams Family” follows America’s most macabre family as they figure out a way to evade a greedy television host who is hellbent on turning their lives into a reality television series. The host shows up in the midst of the family’s preparations for a huge celebration with extended relatives. Isaac is voicing Gomez, while Theron is taking on the role of Morticia.

Charlize Theron, Allison Janney, Bette Midler And Others Join The Addams Family’s Voice Cast
Since first debuting as a cartoon in The New Yorker all the way back in 1938, The Addams Family have captured the hearts and imaginations of people the world over in the decades to follow. Of course, the live action TV series from the ’60s and, to an extent, the animated followup from Hanna-Barbera in the ’70s can largely be credited for kickstarting their mainstream popularity, but each interpretation has its place in history.

Since then, more recent generations hopped on the bandwagon thanks to two major motion pictures released in the early ’90s, which spawned a damn good video game during the 16-bit era, believe it or not. There was a threequel of sorts a few years later, too, that arrived in the form of the direct-to-video Addams Family Reunion, but it’s almost as if the Powers That Be want people to forget about it because that installment doesn’t get much play.

They’re creepy and they’re kooky, and they’re coming to theaters next fall. On Tuesday, MGM President Jonathan Glickman revealed the famous voices behind the studio’s upcoming animated remake of “The Addams Family.” Oscar Issac and Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron (“Monster”) will lead the cast, collaborating for the first time as spouses Gomez and Morticia Addams.

Addams Family Reunion: The Sequel That Time Forgot

This article comes from Den of Geek UK.

In a better world Addams Family Values would have got both the rich acclaim and enormous box office it merited in 1993. A deliciously playful sequel, it’s 94 minutes of tightly put together comedy, with a bunch of performers that come close to defining "perfectly cast." Christina Ricci, clinging to a fence as she’s threatened with the Harmony Hut, remains a comedy highlight of 1990s cinema.

But the film didn’t really hit. As much as it was liked, its box office was less than half of the original. It was released the week before Mrs. Doubtfire in the Us, and it was the latter that became the widely seen family comedy of Christmas 1993. Addams Family Values...

5 Other Movie Franchises That Crashed Onto Television
News this week came in that the final planned Divergent Series movie would be skipping the theaters and go direct to television/DVD. It’s a rare move for such a major studio franchise to make, and it got me to thinking about other movie series that fizzled and did the same. Come inside to check out a history of downward sliding franchises!

If I come off sounding a bit harsh about all this, it’s mostly due to the fact that it’s such a bizarre situation. It’s been awhile since a studio franchise had to dropped down to direct-to-television and it’s not a good thing. Sure, Lionsgate is trying to spin the information that it’s part of a planned way to jumpstart a spin-off TV series...but the reality is this isn’t how they wanted The Divergent Series to end.

It’s a failure,...

The 1990s comedy sequels that deserved better
Bill & Ted, Addams Family Values, Wayne's World 2 - the 1990s wasn't short of good comedy sequels. It's just not enough people watched them.

In recent times, Hollywood has enjoyed going back into the 1990s to come up with belated sequels to previous hit movies. So, we finally got Dumb & Dumber 2, for instance, whilst a third Clerks, a second Mallrats, a new Sister Act and a Naked Gun reboot are being cooked up somewhere. Further belated sequels? Zoolander 2 finally arrives next year, and Anchorman 2 celebrates, quietly, its second birthday this Christmas.

It was only at the end of the 1990s that comedy sequels suddenly really took off. There were exceptions beforehand of course, but few things raise the eyebrows of Hollywood high brass than lots of cash. This, whilst the enormous box office takings of Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me were in part down to an utterly inspired marketing campaign,...

How to fix a failing movie franchise
Paramount tried a few approaches in the new Terminator reboot. But if a franchise hits the doldrums, how can a studio resurrect it?

Fingers are being crossed at Skydance and Paramount Pictures that the critical mauling handed out to Terminator: Genisys last week won't be reflected fully in the box office numbers. So far, the plan for a new trilogy of Terminator films is arguably just about alive, courtesy of a total gross for the new film of $131m worldwide. That's below expectations, but if it can eventually crawl its way to $400m, that's probably enough to move ahead with a Genisys sequel (it'd be more than the hugely-acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road).

But even if a new film gets greenlit, it's clear that things have to change again. As many have pointed out, the consensus is now that there have been more bad-to-middling Terminator films than good ones,...

MGM Announces Animated The Addams Family Movie
Christina Ricci, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Hart, Judith Malina, Carel Struycken, and Jimmy Workman in La Famille Addams (1991)
The Addams Family is coming back to the big screen with a new animated reboot from MGM Studios. The project is not related to Illumination Entertainment's The Addams Family, a stop-motion feature which Tim Burton was slated to direct. That project is no longer moving forward.

Pamela Pettler (Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, Monster House, 9) has signed on to write the screenplay, with BermanBraun's Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun producing. Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi are executive producing.

No story details have been given at this time, but the film will be based on Charles Addams' beloved comic strip, which was published in The New Yorker from 1938 until 1988, when the creator passed away.

The comics spawned The Addams Family live-action TV series featuring Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday, Pugsley, and Thing, which ran from 1964 to 1966, along with The Addams Family 1991 feature film and its sequels Addams Family Values and Addams Family Reunion.

The Addams Family to Be Rebooted as an Animated Film
The Addams Family, a group described as "creepy", "kooky", "mysterious", "spooky", and "all together ookie", will be returning to the big screen as an animated movie. The macabre family has enjoyed numerous forms since they were created in 1938 by cartoonist Charles Addams for The New Yorker. Their most popular incarnations were the original live-action series, which ran from 1964-1966, and the hit 1991 film starring Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci, and Christopher Lloyd. The sequel, Addams Family Values, flopped, and the third movie, Addams Family Reunion, went straight-to-video, but the delightfully strange clan made a bit of a comeback with a 2010 Broadway musical. A return to movie theaters is overdue. Hit the jump for more. According to Variety, Pamela Pettler, whose credits include Corpse Bride and Monster House, will handle screenwriting duties for MGM's new adaptation. Over three years ago, Tim Burton planned to direct a stop-motion adaptation with Chris Meledandri’s Illumination,...

A Halloween announcement: Addams Family to be reincarnated as animated movie
Charles Addams' ghoulish creations look set to finally re-emerge in cartoon form after Tim Burton project scrapped

• Tim Burton to direct Beetlejuice 2

• Why I love … Addams Family Values' Thanksgiving play

Gomez, Morticia and Uncle Fester are set to live again: as animated characters in a new version of The Addams Family, reports Variety.

After a pair of live-action hit movies in the early 90s – The Addams Family and Addams Family Values – had revived interest in Charles Addams' macabre creations, originally conceived as drawings in the New Yorker magazine, a string of cheap TV cartoons as well as a straight to video feature (Addams Family Reunion) had somewhat tarnished the brand. Tim Burton and Despicable Me producer Chris Meledandri had reportedly been trying to bring a stop-motion Addams Family to the big screen in recent years, but the project was scrapped in July.

Horror at the Oscars Part III
Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.

But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. But we will in this last section and the others lost to us last year.

So farewell fight fans and remember,...

Kevin McCarthy obituary
Elegant and charming supporting actor with more than 200 credits over a 70-year career

Kevin McCarthy, who has died aged 96, notched up more than 70 years as a working actor on stage and screen, with more than 200 film and TV credits. However mundane the material, it was usually enhanced by his lazy charm and natural elegance, his intriguing baritone voice and unconventional good looks – all attributes that might well have led him down the political path of his cousin, senator Eugene McCarthy. As it happened, he preferred to play politicians rather than be one.

He received his first screen credit in Laslo Benedek's version of Death of a Salesman (1951). McCarthy had previously played Biff, one of Willy Loman's disillusioned sons, in the London production of Arthur Miller's play, in 1949. By the time of the movie, he was a youthful-looking 37, with considerable stage experience. Resuming the role of Biff, he held...
